Final Fantasy IV: The After Years is a direct sequel to Final Fantasy IV. It was originally released in Japan (2008) as a NTT DoKoMo Foma phone/mobile game, titled Final Fantasy IV the After: Return of the Moon. FFIV: The After Years was released in Northa America as a downloadable WiiWare game for the Nintendo Wii.
The game is set seventeen years after the ending of Final Fantasy IV and the departure of the Lunarian moon. The game follows the original cast and their descendants. Like most of the Square-Enix ports and remakes, it largely utilizes mechanics from its predecessor, the title incorporates higher quality character graphics and several new gameplay systems.
Damycan, Eblain and the Village of Mist have been rebuilt, and the world has returned to a state of peace. The kingdom of Baron is under the wise rule of King Cecil and Queen Rosa, who now have a new son, Prince Ceodore. To everyones surprise, the Lunarian Moon has now reappeared in the sky and teh Castle of Baron is attacked by monsters. The story contines as they must unravel the mysterious events through nine episodic tales.
