At the Square Enix First Production Conference on January 18, 2011, Square Enix announced that they were creating a sequel to Final Fantasy XIII, titled Final Fantasy XIII-2. The game has an expected release date of 2011 in Japan and next winter in North America, for both the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. The game's director is again Motomu Toriyama. It is set to again have the main character as Lightning, and has a modified version of the battle system from the original game. This is the 2nd direct sequel for any Final Fantasy game, the first being Final Fantasy X-2.
