Like you said Cobain, we got high def TV now, but with the current storage capacity of DVDs, there is no way to fit a high definition movie onto one. With Blu-Ray, the big movie companies will be able to release their movies in high definition form so that the people who paid for their fancy HDTVs will be able to play their movies in high def too.
Also, the PS3 will be equiped with a Blu-Ray drive, so they will be able to fit up to 50 gigs of data on one disk, which is a ton more information than Xbox360 games can pack onto a disk, becuase right now it only has a standard DVD drive. I read an article that said Microsoft is working on developing an external HD-DVD drive which will support HD-DVD disks that can hold 15gigs of data, but that could cost anywhere between $150-$300, and I couldn't see shelling out the cash for the 360 plus the external drive. It would also be hard for developers because if they made a game that was so big it only fit on an HD-DVD, then they would be alienating a lot of their consumer base who only have the standard Xbox360. There was also no talk about a new version of the 360 which has this drive built in. |

Wow, uh...no kidding.
![]() The only problem with DVDs is that fact that they're making VHS obsolete, and I have so many VHS tapes that haven't been made into DVDs. Unless I'm living in the dark, and there's a way to fix that, it'll probably remain that way for awhile. |

Yes, DVDs are smal, compact and don't get randomly torn up when you try to play them. I can't remember how many times my parents have had to buy a new VHS player because our current one would eat tapes. VHS tapes are also pretty expensive to make. DVD's also make it possible for you to use your computer as your primary entertainment system. All you need is a TV with S video capabilities and your computer becomes your DVD player, stereo, and "whatever media you want to use" player.
