I voted for Star Wars, but HOW DARE YOU INSULT LOTR!!!!!!!! I have to says Star Wars because there is such an extensive univerese behind it. I'm sure there is with LOTR, but it comes in the form of novels. I've read enough novels, i just don't have the time. The background of Star Wars is presented like if accual history. And one of my many obsessions is Star Wars.

Star Wars didn't have dramatic music and cheesy scenes? That's what makes it so good.
LOTR for me. Star wars is close, but LOTR takes it all for me. It's just so well done.

I dunno, i'd rather be a jedi wielding a lightsaber than be some random person out of a heroic group able to single handedly defeat 1000000 orcs without having to once use the toilet...if they had back then?
Personally, i thought LotR was just another cheesy and hollywood cliche fight. I mean it was like this in a nutshell. "Oh noes, we are vastly outnumbered and will get uber pwnt by these gigantic...and well...much more of better fighters, and repugnant evil looking orcs. Yet...if we somehow manage to destroy some completely powerful small piece of jewlery which has survived oxidation reactions and everything realistically chemical, by climbing a mountain and just dropping it in lava...we wins!" Sigh...honestly? I prefer star wars because of how dramatic it was, while staying a bit realist on the story sense. By this i mean, the fall of jedis was immenent yet it proved that the most evil person always has a bit of goodness in him....except the emperor...he can eat my fecal dumps... Yays for Chewbacca! as i quote Kevin Smith on this one "LOTR is just walking!" "(this was said during a forum with KS and then added to Clerks 2)
it's true... they literally walked from one side of the world to the other. there was no epic-ness about it. star wars on the other hand is one epic adventure with the struggle between father and son, backstabbing and deceit, trust and loyalties, i mean, star wars has it all! |

To also quote Clerks 2 :"There was only one return, and it was not of the king, it was of the Jedi."
While LOTR was an amazing story, with some of the greatest fantasy elements... honestly people, WALKING! Walking and a somewhat questionable, slightly homosexual hobbit relationship. While all the badass elves and warriors and kick ass Gandalf were fighting to secure the freedom of Middle Earth, these two were walking around with evil jewelry playing grab ass all over the world. Star Wars had such a dramatic and intense story, character development, and let us not forget... The Force. And no one can dare say that a sword fight in LOTR can even touch a Lightsaber fight. It just can't be done. |

Oh for goodness sakes, they weren't in a homosexual relationship, and if they were.. who cares?! They were best friends who went on a journey together and ended up destroying the ring. They ended up saving Middle Earth basically. I don't remember Tolkien writing about them being in a homosexual relationship anyway, they had been through a lot together and of course it made them better friends in the end.
There wasn't just walking, there was a lot of other stuff in there too. I just loved everything about those films, they were magical. Star Wars to me is pretty meh compared to LOTR in my opinion. I like Star Wars and think it's pretty neat and I also own the DVD's but I just don't think it's that great compared to the Lord of the Rings trilogy. ![]() The fighting scenes in The Two Towers and Return of the King were fantastic! Very intense and entertaining to watch. LOTR FTW! ![]()

Personally I prefer Peter Jackson's LOTR trilogy. It is based on one of the finest works of litterature ever written, and personally I find the universe and atmosphere much more appealing and the storyline and characters to be much better thought out. There were no annoying characters with no other purpose than comic relief (which wasn't even funny anyway) such as JarJar Binks and those stupid droids. Instead the more light hearted elements of the movies were provided by characters who actually had a purpose and weren't exaggerated like their Star Wars counterparts. |

I didn't vote.
I think that personally as two movies they're simply too different to compare. And they both had good and bad things about them, didn't they? "Star Wars" was just overtly cheesy and "Lord of The Rings"... They're great and all, but they just went too.Damn.Long. I would've been more happy if they'd cut each of the movies down a little and made it a quadrilogy. But of course, they were both great movies. Storyline, acting and characters. Great. So I really couldn't choose one.

If you enjoy LOTR, it really isn't that hard to sit through it. I didn't really find there were any scenes in the movies in which I was exceptionally bored, and I usually have a hard time sitting through movies.
Also, what's this crap about saying Star Wars is better because it has lightsabers and a better backworld history? What does that have to do with anything? Having a single cool weapon does not make a movie good (also, the lightsaber fights in the first trilogy sucked. C-3PO would move as majestically as they did) and the backstory has nothing to do with it. None of the expanded universe of Star Wars has anything to do with George Lucas and certainly nothing to do with the either of his trilogies themselves. Star Wars does have a great back story and I love the world it is set in far more than LOTR, but the movies themselves are nothing compared to LOTR. There's a reason LOTR has a good dozen more Oscars than Star Wars.

I'm gonna have to say LOTR. I could never get into Star Wars like everyone else, but I watched all the episodes. I liked Star Wars's ewoks, Darth Vader, and Han Solo.. that's about it. LOTR on the other hand is not sci-fi(I've never been a big sci-fi fan). Although I have never read the books(except for The Hobbit), I enjoyed the movies.
