Roleplay Jam

This is directed primarily at LocoColt04 and Merlin, however anyone else who remembers the competition may find this of interest.

We wish to have a competition this year and TFF is invited to return. There are no real plans laid out yet because we wish to confirm the participating teams (and more importantly, the team captains).

It will be the team captains working in congress who be the ones to decide the policies and system of the next Jam along with its date and duration. Once all of the particulars have been set I will again be the master of ceremonies, officiating and enforcing the rules set by the captains.

Please let me know as soon as possible if TFF is interested.

Ah, I wondered if I would see the RP Jam again, it went missing last year and Merlin made up his own type that the people played. I think Merlin has been rather busy lately, he has been a little absent. Though I know Loco is around, so you can probably get him to talk to.

I always had a curiosity about the RP Jam, though considering the time it took place I never had the time. I may join this time around though, my own problem would be I had a tendency to make really, really long posts and if I remember some of the rules from last time, that was a bit against the rules.

As stated, this time will be rather different. Probably only superficially similar to the original, at any rate.

The limitations on post sizes will probably be eliminated, however I think that in order to balance that out a minimal post size will be decided upon.

But that is all for the team captains to decide.

If Loco, Merlin or Yuna are available then I request that a back-up captain be decided.

Also, this is no longer about single teams representing communities. Communities are able to have multiple teams, making this competition more about singular glory than one shared by the entire community.

I am VERY available... depending upon when this actually starts. I'd love to be a co-captain with Merlin, so long as this thing doesn't start within the next two months. The class I'm currently taking and the class afterward will be pretty hectic, but things will lighten up after that. So, as long as the planning stages take a while, I'm game.

We still have the old RPJ forums, too. It's a simple matter of cleaning them up, posting all the new rules, and making them visible again.

Yay! Does this mean our RP forums might actually become pretty active again? I am willing to participate, if my schedule allows. I never know when I might get re-assigned somewhere alse with no internet access, or have a busier schedule than my current one.

Well if depending on how different the rules are, I may decide to join this time, since I actually have some free time and have been looking to get into some more active Roleplaying anyway.

Considering that the last RP Jam was I think two years ago roughly, maybe less, maybe more I do not remember a lot of the details. But how many forums are partaking in this contest this time around? And how complex you expecting to make the rules, I remember the last one had a lot of complexities for point acquiring and totaling among other things. I am guessing there was some issues about that, so you are making changes for this time around.

And with that, as far as I'm concerned Stage 1 is complete for TFF (unless you will be fostering more than one team).

You are on stand-by until I can receive confirmation from the other teams of interest and who will be team captain. In the meantime I suggest that you begin selecting a roster and thinking up proposals for the ruling, as per the present policy stating that I will not have a hand in that process beyond mediation.

If Merlin is up for it, I'm going ahead and putting him forward as our captain; if he opts out, I don't mind the hot seat. An ideal team, in my head anyway, would be as follows:

Merlin
LocoColt04
Yuna (if willing)
Andromeda
Mike (if able)
Dauragon (if willing)

We may be able to get Spike and RandomScribe back for something like this. I'll have to talk to them. SOLDIER #819 may also be willing, so we'll have to see what happens.

All together, that's too many names, but those are the first people I'd go to if that list up there doesn't work out.

I would love for Psychosyd to participate; unfortunately, he'll be on his mission in Latvia for another year and a half... he gets internet once a week and shares it with a dozen other people, so that's a no-go.

Oh, and Andro... I don't want to sound like a real jerk or anything, but if the competition shares some similarities with the last one, you HAVE to use a spell-checker and a grammar-checker. We lose points for each misspelled and misused word. As great as your writing is, typos are your downfall.

Another thing.

Please consider ideal dates, as well as an ideal duration.

When we have all of the captains together to discuss the rules for this year I don't wish to waste our time on brainstorming. Everyone should be able to bring something forward to the table and then vote.

Yes I know Loco, I am aware of my short comings and I have been working to correct those issues. As well as my odd sense of values towards RP, which I lately have been coming to terms with. I am not ignorant to my short comings, but I had my reasons, as flawed and strange as they were. But I know very going into something like this that grammar and spelling is very important as what you write. You should not have to worry about me too much, I am pretty good spirits with RPing at the moment.

@ Andro: ^_^;; Okay. Just wanted to give a little reminder.

@ sneaky: Ideal dates... well, as the majority of the team I listed up there won't have major conflicts with college examinations, I believe we could easily start something in mid-March, and end it sometime in June, or possibly even July if we manage to run it that long. Any longer than that, however, is ridiculous for a competition -- that's how people lose interest.

Though I don't mind the NPD (no post daily) penalty, I'd like to ask that you amend the three-day penalty for a specific writer to five days. Some of us work jobs where you never know when you're going to have time to sit down or not. Sometimes, work + school != convenient.

I kind of want to start the rules up from scratch, so let's pretend that we're rule-less at the moment.

Basically everyone is going to write up how they think the Jam should be conducted and we'll compare notes in session and see what works and what doesn't then vote in another session.

I'm not sure what will take priority here: setting the date for the Jam or making sure the rules are locked and approved by each of the captains.

I think both are probably important, though in the end you need your rules. But you need a date so you know what sort of time table you are working with. But when does come done to it, the date can be flexible, but you still need your rules if you are going to have your RP Jam. So probably find a date that seems to work for the time being, or be a little vague about it saying starting in a specific month and then when you know everything is ready be more specific about a day to start. And if something happens, you can always adjust the day.

Though starting the rules from scratch sounds good. I know the last time that the rules were already set before we joined, or the members of TFF joined. So there was not a lot of say in things someone might have disagreed with. Sounds like what you have will make a lot of people happy to play as well as promote an agreeable environment to play in. I just wonder how flexible all the captains will be. Does make me more curious.
