A line of benches stood along the wall around the doctor's office. It was all on the third floor, and the balcony was only several feet away from the benches. The office double-doors lied near a corner of the ShinRa building. They were gray and metallitc in appearance and looked like they were made to slide open and close. If one were to look up from one of the lower levels, they could see the large-circular air vent located on the second floor, just under the doctor's lab and office. The blades of the fan expanded seven feet in diameter as it briskly turned under the balcony. Large metal grates acted as barriers on both sides for both visual obscurance as well as safety.

The new recruits gathered and talked amoung themselves, while waiting for the doctor to show up. Some of them looked cool as beans while others looked a bit nervous. They talked about many things ranging from monsters to girls to materia. Then, for some, their tones changed a bit once some began to notice who was walking towards the office doors. It was Dr. Fever. He was holding a doctor's bag in his right hand while reading the recruit list in his left.

"What kind of name is Saiko?...", he thought outloud. "...sounds like the name of a hovercar company."

When Dr. Fever arrived to the doors, he raised a security card, swiped it, and then punched in a few numbers. The two doors slid open, and then, the doctor turned and yelled, "All of you, ATTTEENTION!"

The new recruits stood, became quiet, all had hands to the side, and stared into nothingness. The exception was one, who reacted a bit later than the others. Dr. Fever walked over to the young boy, turned, and got into his face.

"What is wrong with you? Do you not understand the word, attention? The command, Attention?! Did you have to wait and see what the others did before you could make a response?! Are you still wet behind the ears, or miss the taste of your mother's teet?!!"

The boy was sweating, and looked like he was going to wet himself.

"What-are-you-doing-here?! You think you could just join up into SOLDIER, pick up any weapon that looks and sounds cool, and become a badass??! Look at me! I'm only 22! 22!! I reached the Rank of 3 by the time I was 19, and now I'm a Rank 2 SOLDIER and Doctor! I'm the badass here!!
What are you going to do here other than piss me off?!"

The boy openned his mouth slightly as if he was actually going to answer.

"..don't answer that" Dr. Fever then stated. He walked over to the open doors and turned around. The new recruits that showed up at that time were all silent. Some of the people on the lower levels were just standing and looking up at the doctor. He then addressed the rest of the recruits.

"Alright yous. You dirt merchants are not going to waste my time, not today. We're going to do this one by one, alternating between the two sides you all so gracefully squatted. I'll call you in myself; none of you do anything until it's told to do it."

Dr. Fever adjusted his glasses for a moment and entered the office and lab, closing the doors behind him. The room was sound proof and he was alone.
"Hahahaaahhahaaha...What are you going to do here other than piss me off?!..hahahaaahahammuuahahaaa" he said in mocking himself. "Where do I get this stuff-that kid look like he was going to barf!"

The entire lab was set up for almost anything in the med. field he wanted to do. Geneology, neurology, surgery, anything. Dr. Fever made sure he had anything he ever needed since materia was never a guarantee.

"That poor boy...." She whispered to herself as she watched the man that had just been screamed at whimper slightly, still shaking. He never knew what was coming... Turing her saphhire gaze to her sisters, she watched them plot and scheme on how they where going to get out of this.

She was the youngest, so they tended to leave her out sometimes. She couldn't help but feel a little alienated some times. Sighing, she watched as person after person filed into the room, and the door got closer and closer.

"Errr....Guys?" She questioned, turning her her head to face her siblings.

"Hrm?" Rin questioned, glancing at the youngest.

"I think I'm after this gu--" She was inturrupted

"Next!" He yelled, his gaze on Razzi. All three froze.

"Urm...C-Could he go first?"

"DID I STUTTER!? YOU, NOW!" Dr. Fever yelled, smirking slightly. Casting one more nervous, afraid glance back at her sisters, she marched into the room.

All of the recruits stood at the hallway looking like men awaiting the firing squad to shoot at them. But Animor knew that there was no one who could be more nervous than her and her sisters.

The doctor, calling himself Dr. Fever, did not seem to be a very nice person and this could spell more trouble for the three of them. What if he finds out? He'll definitely find out. Animor struggled to think of a way to get her and her siblings away from this mess she was hoping that they would be the last ones to be called.

She heard Razzi said something to Rin, but before Razzi could finish, Dr. Fever yelled and called to her youngest sister. Razzi couldn't do anything but march towards the door.

"I wonder what will happen next. I honestly dont know what to do.I hope Razzi would be able to get through this..." she said to Rin.

Kris sat on his bed and stared out the barred window. The depressing scene outside combined with the prison like feel to the room always got him in a bad mood in the mornings... either that or it was just the early starts. He rubbed his hands over his face and turned to see Saiko and Tye getting ready for the day of training. He streched out his arms and let out a grunt that sounded like a suppressed yawn. He fell to the floor and looked under his bed. He rummaged for a while until he emerged with his walkman and a stale piece of pizza.

"Hey guys, When did we last have pizza?" Tye and Saiko both shrugged. Kris took a sniff and recoiled in disgust. He looked around for the bin with no avail. It was obviously engulfed by the mounts of junk. He shrugged his shoulders and threw it out the window.

"I hope Dr. F takes it easy on the new guys this time" Kris lay back onto his bed and plugged his ear phones in. Kris didn't have his physical done by Dr. Fever when he first joined Soldier, thank god. His only experience with him was after a serious injury on the field. All Kris could remember or didn't repress was that he liked to think of himself as a badass.

Kris turned on the walkman and his face scrunched up. "Ok, who's big idea was it to switch my CD's with J pop?"

She cringed as she heard the doctor call out Razzi. That was it...they were goners....he was going to rat them out, and they'd never see the light of day again... oh if only SHE had been the one to go first... Razzi had no experience seducing guys... but over the years, Animor and Rin had learned! Of course, this man did NOT seem the kind that wanted to be seduced.... she found herself muttering quietly to animor, through fear more than anger, "what crawled up his ass and died?"

Animor did not reply, her face was a sickly whitish-green, and her eyes were glued to the door. There was a small crash and the two cringed. Several of the other Recruits attention was called and they looked, in fear....

Dr. Fever typed on a keyboard in front of a flat-screen. His computer was propped up on a small wooden table next to his trays. He had clean needles and various other instruments carefully laid out across them. The room was not very lit. There was an overhead light above the examination table that was a few inches away from the trays. Behind him and left from the doors, there was another light above the sinks and counters. On that same wall, hung an old-high quality katana; the doctor was never known to use swords, so he most likely kept it there purely for aesthetics. A third light was more towards the corner, to the right of the doors. It shined above an area halfway closed off by curtains, which lie the toilet and deepsink. To the right of that, along the wall, stood an antique scuttlebutt. The lab also had many other things, but more towards the back: beds, surgery tables, tools used in pathology and chemistry, fridges, and another security door.

His coat was hanging on a stand, and the sleeves of his unform were rolled to his elbows. The doctor was typing something into the medical file of the last examined recruit as the boy left the room. The doors opened, and he looked at the list of those who remained. There were eight new recruits left.

"Next!" he called out after sliding himself in his chair towards the doorway.

"Urm...C-Could he go first?" the next recruit asked.

"DID I STUTTER!? YOU, NOW!" Dr. Fever yelled.

The boy turned slightly and looked at the ones behind him before entering the room. As the recruit walked in, the doctor slided himself again, pushing a large button along the way with his knuckles. The two entrance doors slided shut. Like the others before, only the doctor and that recruit were in the room.

"Exam table...stand by it", the doctor said as he reached back to his earlier position.

He picked up the list, which was kept on a writing pad, and then drew a check by the name of the last recruit. Turning the flatscreen towards the young boy, he stated, "thumbprint goes here." Dr. Fever then pointed at one of the corners of the screen.

The recruit nervously tried to press his left thumb onto the lower left side of the screen. Whether because of nerves or trying to test the doctor or whatever else, the recruit pressed too hard, and the flat screen fell. It crashed behind the wooden table, but didn't break.

"I said 'Thumbprint Goes Here' not 'IT Puts The Thumb On The Screen And Breaks IT!!" Dr. Fever shouted.

He stood up and walked halfway around the table. The doctor placed the screen back on the table, checked its operation, and then read the screen.

"So, your name is Takan."

“Yes sir,” She replied, trying to calm herself down. She had to think rashly to get out of this one. “Takan,” she repeated back, her voice low 'manly' as animor had described it.

“Take your shirt off,” the attractive white haired man said blandly, not even glancing up from his paper work.

“Well erm, you see sir, I have a.....erm...a....very rare disease!” She suddenly blurted out, nodding very quickly to herself. The man raised a brow in mild curiosity.

“I’ve seen a lot of diseases boy, nothing you have will scare me. Now take your shirt off. If you do have a disease, I need to record it,” he answered back, watching her with hawk-like eyes.

“...But this one is different! Erm...you see...erm...I-I...,” she stuttered nervously, before she was interrupted.

“Look, take your damn shirt off, or I’ll come over there and do it for you!”

Dr. Fever stopped after his last statement and got up out of his chair. Removing his glasses, he started to walk over toward the sinks. Rubbing his eyes with his other hand, he thought 'why the hell did I say that for??-or I'll do that for you?-'.

Keeping a demeanor was one thing, but outright saying something in the realm of physical abuse was another. True, employment in ShinRa was pretty much like military, but there were lines not to be crossed, especially by medical. The doctor was kinda surprised he said that. He placed his glasses back on and started to wash his hands with phisoderm. 'I gotta be tired', he thought.

In a softer tone, he spoke again. "Look, this is routine. You take your shirt off, but keep the under tank-top on. I check your blood pressure, ears, eyes, nose, mouth, throat. Then, I check your breathing and heart...and of course, look for any diseases. Next, I draw your blood for a complete work up and check for anything. Everything's recorded...oh, and then there's the hernia test and the shots given in the backside. After that, you leave. If the exam is a problem, I can always process you out, as being unfit for duty. Oh, and dental exams are next week."

The doctor dried his hands and walked over to the exam table. He picked up a couple of latex gloves out of the box next to the trays. Then he grabbed one of the scopes.

"So, you wanna tell me about this disease or how you want to do this?"

God, she didn’t know what to do! Should she tell him, or let him figure it out!? He was going to find out, on way or the other, but how was she going to keep him from saying anything?

Dr. Fever seemed nice, actually. He had calmed down quite a bit, and explained things to her so that she would understand. She liked him better this way. He was just a man, trying to keep his job. He was only little irritated, he couldn’t be all that bad. Maybe if she explained it to him?

“Dr. Fever...? Um...I’ve got something important to tell you...but you have to promise not to tell...” She said, resorting to some what childish measures. The man raised a brow in curiosity and nodded.

“Your not gay are you!?” He asked warily, backing up a little bit.

“N-No!” She sputtered, blushing madly. The doctor chuckled and shook his head, smiling slightly.

“Alright, Takan, I’ll play your game. I promise not to tell,” He replied. “Now hurry and get on with it, I’ve got other patients,” He said, tapping his foot and glancing at the clock on the wall.

“Well...You see....God this is awkward...erm...I’m not really a guy...”

“...Continue...”

“I’m...” She stopped and glanced back up at him. He smiled and nodded reassuringly, and that gave her the strength she needed to continue. He really was a nice man.

“I’m...a girl..”

He sat there for a moment, staring off into space. The doctor thought of the possibilities why a girl would be here, what would be her reasons, and as well as his own for being there. Dr. Fever sighed.

"yea, that's some disease...good thing you said something before the hernia test; 'that' would have been awkward."

The doctor sat in his chair for another moment thinking some more. Sure, he could turn the little girl in, but there were many things he knew they would do to her.

"Well?" he asked looking at her. "What were you thinking? You could just dance your way in, and no one would notice? Look at yourself. You're just a little girl..."

Dr. Fever could see the tears forming in her eyes. For whatever reasons she had, the doctor couldn't help but feel a sickening sense of sympathy. Part of him wanted to ask if there was anyone else who knew, while another part didn't care. He sighed again.

"Alright...anyone else know?"

"...."

The girl didn't answer. A single tear instead just beaded down her cheek. Dr. Fever leaned over and pressed a button under the exam table. The table rose up from one side into an angle while metal arms rose under which had sleeves, in which to hold someone's legs.

"Well, since you're here, I might as well give you a full check up...to make sure you're at least physically fine. The bimbo-bag on the speakers would call it, a 'womanly' check up. Everything else will be checked as if routine. Then, I'll give you until morning to leave this place."

"..b-but you promised"

"Yea, a promise is a promise, but I never said I'd let you stay here. You'll just get killed." the doctor replied.

He looked up at the clock, and then at his watch. Thinking outloud, he whispered while picking out tools, "I do this, but then I'm gone. I'm not going to be late."

"My shirt is in her office my ass...." grumbled an irate Saiko. Which was the only thing he had said about the entire matter. Who had put her up to that? Knowing that gum-smacking bimbo, she probably found out about the joke and saw fit to further it. Why on earth someone would flaunt their loose morals about was beyond him.

Pizza.......Oh. Saiko shrugged. He honestly couldn't remember when they last had pizza. Dr. F?

"He's really not all that bad I'm sure," Saiko said off-handedly. He let the weapons manual he'd been skimming through fall to the floor. A snack sure would be nice before they left for training. Rolling over, he ran his hands under his matress quickly, taking out the bag of peanut butter M&M's before the guys realized whered they'd com from. Popped a few in his mouth. Chewed. Contemplated.

M&M's sure made life good.

So...that was it? What now? Leave? Leave and go where? They couldn't go home, their parents would just sell them again (or turn them in, one of the two) ,and as soon as they left Shinra's protective covering, the slave drivers would snatch them up and sell them again.

"I--We can't leave," She spoke up, wiping the tear away from her cheek. 'I have to be strong,' she told herself as the man infront of her tilted his head in question.

"We?"

"Me and my sisters, Animor and Rin."

"...I see. Why can't you leave? Why can't you just go home?"

"We haven't a home anymore. We where sold off as slaves to pay debts...and we escaped and came here, hoping to get stronger. Unfortunatly, Shinra only excepts men..."

Dr. Fever laughed a little, not at the story or her reason, but at the fact that it was that easy to get her to admit the background. He turned and starting writing something on his notepad.

"You have a lot of heart.." he said calmly. "...I thought for a second that there might be more to your story; didn't think a person would sneak in here and just leave so easy without stating some case."

He turned towards her again. "If you're...you and your sisters are going to survive working in ShinRa, you'd better learn to keep your secrets 'better'. And, if anyone finds out that I found out and didn't say anything, I'll make sure those slavers get a piece of three-young little asses. Understand? Now, tell your sisters in private, I will need to see all three of you in four days, here, same time. I'll need to examine each of you, keep a record, and then doctor something in your files."

At that point, Dr. Fever stood and went to grab his coat. After slipping it on, he grabbed his bag and leaded Takan to the door. His expression and tone changed a little, and when the doors openned, he said "Now, #&@*off!"

Looking at those still waiting, he continued. "That goes for the rest of you! Go put up a tent somewhere else! You'll be called later in the week!"

The doctor then left in the same direction he came.

---------------------------------------------------

After some time, in a far location, Dr. Fever was standing near a high cliff. Thick, green grass grew on the plain where he stood. It was raining, and the skies were filled with different hues. A woman started walking towards the doctor. Her hair was jet black, except for the violet streaks that covered her bangs. Her honey colored, crystal-like eyes pierced the raindrops as she looked upon the man. She stood a few inches shorter than him, and weighed no more than a supermodel. The woman wore the uniform of someone in ShinRa Special Task Force, a job she got from knowing, and killing, the right people. Her look was customed slightly with pieces of vinyl and a vinyl longcoat worn over. Her right hand and half her forearm was covered by a bionic glove, something for both support and weapon use.

She stopped about five paces away from the doctor. In a subtle voice, she spoke. "Doc."

"Miako..."

The two had a history and shared past missions. The doctor was even the one who designed and outfitted the woman with her materia-fusion glove, a weapon only she learned and used.

"You have the files I asked for?" Dr. Fever asked.

Handing a sealed folder to him from behind, she answered, "Yes...just don't get caught with these or we'll"
