She stayed for a while, long after rest of the members of SOLDIER had left Some seemed more upset than others, but she wasn't one of them. Maybe she was too upset with herself to be upset at anything else. How had she gotten herself hurt?! She smacked herself in the arm to remind herself how stupid that move had been, causing her to bite her lip to supress pain.
She looked about the hallway she was waiting in, and noticed she was staning alone, she suddenly felt very lonely. She made her way to the bar and sat down ordering a drink. She noticed a member of SOLDIER sitting to her left and almost went over to make friends with the fellow patron, however, he suddenly jumped out of his chair throwing his mug at a wall where it shattered, yelling something incoherent, and then ran out to the angry yells of the tender. She guessed the news upset him more than others, not her. People lived, people died. It couldn't be helped... After a while she noticed the fancy couple and went dreamy eyed with the thought of love for a while, before the keep splashed her with water. Spluttering angrily she paid him and left the bar. Just as she was leaving, she noticed Tarith sitting at the bar, paying the keep. She was sure he didn't see her. She decided it was way too early in the morning for sleep, and so she went outside and sat on the dirt road waiting for the sun to rise... she knew on this morning, sleep wouldn't come easily for many... |

Sancha was kinda surprised that pretty had plopped herself next to him on his bed, "Um, Im fine..." he said nerviously, from what he'd seen, pretty was kinda attractive, he found himself looking at her in a different way, he'd been in this situation before, before he'd joined soldier, the girl next door, Leene, had come onto him in a similar way.
But Sancha and Pretty had only just met, surely she didn't liek him the way he thought she did, did she? Sancha was nervous as piss, and he didn't know what to do. Last edited by Jet Enduro; 07-31-2004 at 03:19 AM. |

After Tarith's fifth drink, He began to wonder about the smashed glass. Obviously one of the less experienced soldier members didn't take the news too well. ShinRa is an evil company. Tarith experienced that first hand on his first ever mission.
It was just your average run of the mill mission checking out strange reports in Mideel. Supposedly people were just dropping dead. He was on the mission with a group of people he had trained with, one of which he had fallen in love with. Her name was Alore. Dark Blue hair that matched the night sky. Beautiful brown eyes with small patched of grey. She was always smiling even when things were getting rough. She was the perfect match for Tarith. He was right beside her as she fell to the ground. Tarith was heart broken. He had never felt that way for another person before. The rest of the group quickly evacuated after Alore had fallen. They had the perfect way of discovering what caused the deaths. After the autopsy, they discovered it was a virus created by ShinRa in the Mideel area. One of the cells had escaped from the containment unit and had multiplied to create enough to wipe out all life on the island. That was the first time Tarith lost his sanity. He was taken off duty until he was fit to continue his responsibilities as a member of Soldier. During his time off, he decided to travel to Cosmo Canyon as that was the spot where he decided to become a Soldier Member. Once there he began to think why he ever joined Soldier. Suddnely, It hit him. He realised that he joined Soldier to help people. That was his reason then and now. "ShinRa may be evil, but they still care about human life. That's why they need us. To save them when things go wrong." Tarith said quietly to himself, returning back to the present. He stood up and walked to the door. "Hey," Tarith turned to see the barkeep with a pouch of money "You want the change?" Tarith smiled and shook his head. "Nah, It's yours. I'm sure your family would be happy to get that money. Anyway, what am I gonna use it for? I might be dead tommorow" |

Mateo had secluded himself in his room thinking solemnly about what was going on here, another mess Shinra had made and now they had to clean it up, not so unusual. Soldier had been wiping President Shinra's ass for sometime now, 'yeh a real elite fighting force' he thought to himself.
He needed something to drink, and he didn't mean diet cola. Mateo stepped out of his room and began making his way down the hall not spotting any of his comrades along the way, he had a feeling that they were underestimating him, sure he was young but he wasn't a rookie thats for sure, ok well maybe he was, but a talented rookie at that. He trudged down the stairs heading to the bar where he spotted a couple of the men from his squad none really seemed interested in chatting. Tarith was standing at the bar exchanging a few words with the barkeep before tossing him a pouch of change. Mateo approached him slowly. "Sir," he said nodding his head. "Soldier," Replied Tarith acknowledging him before walking up towards the second floor. Mateo took a stool and leant forward on the bar waiting for someone to take his order. He nibbled the complimentary pretzels before the barkeep finally approached him. "Can i get you anything?" He queried in a gruff voice. "Yeh something strong, surprise me." "Come to drown your sorrows, got just the thing for ya," The barkeep got to work quickly before returning with what looked just like an ordinary beer. "Geez, shock of the century," said Mateo sarcastically. The barkeep chuckled softly before going off to serve the other patrons who were growing impatient. Mateo twisted the lid off his beer before sipping at it slowly while continuing to nibble on the pretzels wondering what was next for this odd group of soldiers. |

Pretty rolled her eyes and raised her brow at him. He didn't look fine at all. He was shaking, his face was flustered, and he was a 'tad sweaty. "You sure about that hun?" she asked, placing the back of her hand on his head. "You feel warm..." She finished, eyes flashing worriedly. Sancha squirmed nervously for a moment, then gave her a hasty nod. "Well...alright, if you say so," she said, swinging her feet from side to side. "So what did you think of that monster? Its kinda scary to think that ShinRa could make something that...well....evil." |

I was well on my way from tipsy to all out drunk when Tarith left the bar with a few words to yet another member of SOLDIER. Mateo, if I remembered correctly. sat down and nibbled something while he waited to be served. He was sitting closer then Tarith had been but I could only see the side of his face. I remembered him finally, the soldier who had come down unarmed. I let out a hoarse laugh, causing a few people to look over, but ignored them. The people they were hiring these days...it was like they just took people off the street. Any old person who stumbled into the SOLDIER recruitment center. Ah well, the more the merrier I supposed! Unless they were complete f*ck ups and screwed us all over in the end...highly probable in fact, as I'd realized on our first fight in this town. You give an idiot in the gun and someone's gonna get shot in the foot.
As the bar cleared out I realized maybe tonight wasn't the best time to get drunk. Tomorrow we were heading out again, probably to investigate the Asiete mountains. A hangover was the last thing I was going to need. I got drunk so easily because of my body mass, which wasn't much, and I hadn't eaten since breakfast either. I took Mateo's lead and started in on some pretzels, ordering just one more drink, then heading up to my room. I realized I was barefoot but couldn't quite remember where my shoes were. The elevator floor was hard and cool, I could feel it rumble as it started upwards, climbing it's shaft of cables. I made it into my room only after some trouble with my key and brushed my teeth. I flopped myself onto my bed, staring up at the ceiling and wondering when I was going to admit I was stuck. I had joined SOLDIER for a purpose and then I'd gotten so close. So close I could feel the heartbeat of my prey, but I was scared. I couldn't admit it even to myself but deep inside I knew I was scared. Scared to do what I'd set out to do. Scared to finish what I'd started. The ceiling had taken on a grey tint, the room looked eerie in the light. I loved those few moments when you couldn't tell if it was dusk or dawn. I sat up, peering out my window. The sun wasn't even above the horizon yet. I sighed, knowing I wasn't going to be able to sleep. I changed into some fresh clothes, cleaned and sharpened my daggers, and headed downstairs again. I decided to go for a walk, see if I could catch the sunrise. The light was coming stronger now, a glow bulging on the horizon like a balloon about to pop. It set fire to the sky and its flames travelled up the clouds, dancing in a peachish ecstasy, anxious for the sun to burst forth and warm them. I breathed this all in for a moment then turned down the dim, dusty street, buildings and houses crowding around the river of dust and dirt. A girl sat a few feet down, her body facing the sun. I recognized her as the new rectruit I had thought so bitterly of earlier. She turned to see what the noise was and I nodded a greeting, turning the other direction and walking as though I knew where I was going. I needed to think about some things and walking seemed the best way to do this. A small whimper and then a horrified scream came from my right. It was shrill and terrified and only got louder as I ran towards it. I cut through an alley to the next street over and found the source in yet another alley. At the back, in the shadows, the woman's scream was cut short. A beast, not the mutated, mako-infused kind that seemed so prevalent in the area but an ordinary one, seemed about to strike. It lunged forward, vicious teeth bared, and just as quickly I was there. I caught it in the side with my one dagger, bringing it down. I heard footsteps behind me and realized others had heard the scream as well. Quickly the beast was dead, lying almost peacefully on the ground, and the woman's panic had subsided, her face was somber and relieved although her body still shook with sobs. I turned to thank whoever it had been and found the new recruit beside me. She looked calm and somewhat weary. I noticed her arm was bandaged. "State your name and rank" I demanded, and she replied quickly. "My name is Hikaru, sir. Fifth rank SOLDIER." I was pleased and she was indeed redeemed for her first transgression, in my eyes. I nodded, trying to hide my approval. "Get to bed Hikaru, we're gonna have a hell of a day tomorrow." I said roughly, and stepped away from her. I was disappointed as I looked around. I'd missed the sunrise. ((Okay, not really my style this whole controlling your character thing but I'm getting bored as hell! Forgive me?)) Last edited by Adonai; 08-02-2004 at 03:31 PM. |

Jet laughed, "Yeah im fine", he replied, getting to his feet, "Lets check out the town" says Sancha, taking Pretty's hand, and leaving the inn. They walk out into Kalm, "Yeah, hard to believe that we're working for an organisation such as Shinra, "But..", suddenly a large crash echoed through the streets of Kalm, Sancha and Pretty turned towards the sound, "What the!?" shouts Sancha, seeing a swarm of monsters invading the town.

As ordered, she fell out of line and started walking back to the hotel, feeling a lil sick. Of course, her first meeting with adina hadn't been a bad one... she herself had not slipped up, and had answered quickly, the way she had been taught…she had even stood her ground in front of the monster, though Adina hardly needed it...but adina had seem displeased, as always...maybe she always seemed that way...hikaru hid her feelings sometimes, why not adina... On the way back to the hotel, feeling like a child sentenced to her room, she saw Sancha and that other girl… she wondered whether they were going with each other… that gave her a surge of suppressed enthusiasm and she waved and smiled at the two of them…but they seemed distracted, she looked in the direction of their excited glances, and saw monsters…not just monsters, surges of them… her first feeling was fright, but soon it waved to excitement. Tarith wasn’t here to stop her, if she was hurt, why make a perfectly fit person fight in her place? She nodded to Adina, Sancha, and the girl… then rushed the coming herd. An appropriately positioned foot in one of the beasts sides sent her flipping backwards into the air, shooting her guns in an upside down position. While shooting she watched as her bullets took down beast after beast. She landed on the ground again and turned to face the herd. She ground her toe into the dirt as one ran for her and dove sideways shooting at it, and several others in the process, when she hit the ground, she rolled and righted herself now crouching, a beast came flying over her and she ducked hitting it’s underside with several bullets. All through the fighting, she counted to herself, names she couldn’t remember… people she missed…but couldn’t…see… these were the fallen, who she was fighting for… as she fought, her fighting became more and more furious as silent tears slid down her face, causing dust to stick. This is why she was here… revenge…on life… she rolled ducking her head as a beast dove at her… when she lifted her head, her face was drenched, and she was still sobbing, but she had one name on her mind…Nick…that was her motivation… she wiped dust from her cheeks, and continued rushing the heard

Tarith had just settled down and found a comfortable position in his warm bed. His eyes openned as he heard gunshot. "Oh, come on now. A guy needs his sleep!!!" He shouted into the darkness. He sat up grogilly and grabbed his gun and his trousers. He had just pulled them up as he ran out of the inn. He stared at the oncoming hordes of monsters. He sighed and mouthed "why" to himself.
Tarith reached into one of the pockets in his trousers and pulled a small pouch. He rummaged through the pouch and pulled out a green and blue materia sphere. He drew his gun and placed the sphere into the slots on the barrel. Before he could aim, One of the beasts charged towards him. He raised his gun but before he could fire, the beast lunged at his throut. Tarith ducked and rolled out of the way only to be confronted by another monster. He whipped out his knife and slashed at the beast, cutting it's eye. It yelped with the pain. Tarith raised his gun once again and fired at the recoiling beast. The shell exploded on impact, causing a small inferno. As the flames died down, all was left was a pile of ash. Tarith turned and fired at the first beast that attacked, killing it instantly. He turned to see that even more monsters were entering the town. The just risen sun blinded Tarith for a second. "So much for getting some sleep." He said quietly to himself as another monster lunged at him. |

Hikaru promptly obeyed my commands, turning and heading back to the hotel. I followed at a distance, wondering where I could get some breakfast. I hadn't realized how hungry I was until then. Turning the corner back out onto the street I noticed three pairs of eyes gazing excitedly towards a steady stream of monsters. Dust rose all around them in a cloud that seemed to announce their presence better then their snarled screams and the heavy thuds of their many feet. It seemed to me like a many headed beast, all moving in one collective movement, mouths open, snarling and biting at the creatures around them. Some collapsed in the frenzy, falling underfoot and being crushed by the tide of beasts behind them.
Without saying a thing I looked to the others. They understood, as they all nodded and drew their weapons. Together we swiftly rushed the stampede of open mouths and snarling teeth. Plunging again and again into the steady flow with my swords I could feel flesh give way and yelps erupting from the beasts. I struck them down again and again, their blood splashing my arms and face. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Hikaru taking beast after beast down with her gun, only stopping to reload. She had an odd expression on her face...tears? No matter, she was killing magnificently. If there was ever something beautiful in the world, it was death. I'd never been fond of guns of any sort; it took the skill out of the battle. Strength or agility no longer mattered when it came down to guns, all of that was stripped away and it was left up to which side of the gun you were on. You may have trained for years, you may be the swiftest, strongest being but once a gun was admitted none of that mattered. Seeing Hikaru use a gun, however, didn't seem to diminish her skill. She was no idiot with it. Sancha and Pretty were doing well also, Sancha killing with a self conscious and weary expression on his face and Pretty with a seemingly eternal innocence, even in the act of brutal and savage death. As more people joined the fight, including Tarith, the wild frenzy the monsters had at the start seemed to waver. Their numbers slowly declined, leaving the dusty street littered with corpses, still warm, and thick blood covering it all. A few fled, dodging attack in the heat of battle and hiding themselves in some dark alley, but it didn’t worry me. We’d send some of the new recruits to deal with them, plus morning had arrived and thus our journey to the mountains began soon. |

"Gyargh!" yells Sancha, spearing another monster in the head, "There's so many!", suddenly a larger beast, much bigger then the rest comes charging towards Sancha, "Son of a bitch!!!" he shouts leaping over its oncoming attack, Sancha spins around, and thrusts his lance into the creatures back, "It's a toughie! I need some assistance!"

Continuing to fight, Hikaru was ever watchful of the diminishing numbers of the beasts. She also noticed with some grim satisfaction, that although more members of SOLDIER were coming, she was one of the first. She saw Tarrith enter onto the field and gave a small smile through tears. He had to be a great fighter... In the midst of battle, she found herself studying her partners techniques more and more. She admitted she didn't like the way Sancha fought...he fought as if that was it... That fighting was the only thing they were doing. Now Hikaru, she fought for something, and she could tell, somehow that Adina did as well... She couldn't help but watch Adina fighting. Adina killed as if she was quenching a thirst, and she did so with a river of blood. Now she saw Sancha, a large beast in particular was charging him, and she watched as he dodged and slashed. But it seemed it was doing nothing to the beast. She gave a nod to Sancha, as he yelled for help, and tucked away her guns into her belt. With a swift leap, she was with Sancha, her dagger in hand. The beast was too busy looking at Sancha to realize that she had found her way to it's side. With a slice, she tore upwards, the way she had been taught, up it's left side, and she felt the flesh, and the blood that poured out over her arm. Now the thing howled and was looking at her,she grinned, having distracted it for Sancha's kill and she glanced over it at Sancha, " your turn..."

Weirgrief sat quietly in his room deep in study with a book as gunshots and screams echoed throughout the hotel. picking up a strip of paper and placing it in the pages I layed the book on the table and gave out a sigh...."I guess i've gotta check this out."
Rising from my chair i grabbed my staff from the bed and looked out the window. The sun could be spotted just rising up in the distance, it looked so calm and peaceful here...which made it hard to even imagine so much death and destruction would be here. I shrugged and made my way out to the halway and down the stair into the main lobby. The receptionist was coward behind the desk pearing out the window. "M...Mo....Monsters, hundred of them...." she managed to mutter out. 'Hundreds?' I thought to myself, she must be crazy. Moving to the door i opened it and stepped into the now bloody streets. Nearly 30 monster corpses, and still a few still doing battle with the other members of soldier. Readying my staff at my front i noticed two wolf-like creatures dart out of an allyway to the left of the hotel. Closing my eyes i held my right hand infront of me and began focusing on the closest wolf. "Now your mine" i wispered and rose my hand up in the air. Opening my eyes i saw the wolf suspended nearly 3 feet off the ground with a rock spike sticking through its chest and blood trickling down onto the ground below. Now turning my attention on the remaining creature i placed the end of my staff down and used it as a vault to throw myself in the air. i flew straight up a few meters and came back down on the wolf whos legs buckled and gave way under my weight. I then raised my staff up and with both hand came down on the back of the creatures neck with the end of my staff, killing it instantly. Stepping off the creature I scaned around the streets, it had seemed as if all the creatures were dead. Heading over to Sancha and a girl i had not seen before i looked on the ground at a larger creature as Sancha pulled hi spear out of it's back and looked up and gave a smile at me. Walking and standing next to the girl i noticed the bloddy bandage on her arm, hold my hands over the wound i muttered a few words as a gold aura grew around my hands and then moved to her wound...and finaly faided into the morning sun. "That should make it eaiser to use that arm now, coem back to me if it gets reinjured." Not waiting for a reply I moved to a house corner and leaned my staff against the house. Reachign up and scratchign at my beard with my hands i turned to Tarith and yelled so everyone present could hear me, "Now that the warmup is ou of the way, how about we head to the dangerous part of this little 'mission' " |
