I don't run the TOA and the RPB forums for no reason.

A month after I joined TFF (note the join date in my postbit), I started looking for something to do around the forums aside from just post in the various videogaming sections. To be honest, I hardly even looked at the General Chat forum when I first came here. I love writing, and so I started looking through the RP forum. Though the writers were incredibly excellent, things moved a bit too slow for me. I ventured into the RPB forum, where I found myself surrounded by excellent writers who wrote out long, detailed, action-based posts. I fell in love with it almost immediately.

After a month of RPBing, I was drafted into an RPB clan. That was quite a milestone, as all the other members had to actually apply to get into the clans. I had to choose which to go to, since I was being scouted by three different clans. I'm not trying to gloat; I'm merely stating how things went.

RPBing was a lot different back then. It still works the same way now. I don't mean different that way. I mean different in the sense that it used to be incredibly active. The RP and RPB sections were the highlights of TFF.

...anyway, enough history.

What do I think about RPB? I love it. It's had a major decline, but has been slightly revived recently, partly thanks to you, Inferno Mage. I appreciate it. Hopefully, the next Tournament of Arms will be more active and successful.

Well, it's alright. I'm more of an RPer I suppose. Though that doesn't mean I suck at RPBing though. I could be better, I guess.

I'd been "RPBing" for probably two years of my life before I gave it up. We never called it that back then. It was just... RPing. Only we made it obvious what we were doing.

I used to be on AOL chats with it. Never did forums. Used to just go into a room, post an entrance, and commence the slaughter of innocents. (Played a Shadow Demon by the name of Voide. He was ruthless.)

I love RPBing. And I love being involved with it here, even though I've just begun. Granted, it's slower than what I'm used to, but I'm more patient now in my old age. ;-D

Loco, if you think this is fast paced, try doing it in real time. I can take all the time I need on here before posting, which I enjoy because it gives me time to go over my work. Chat running was anarchy, because not only are you judged on your talents as a writer, you also have to have good spelling and grammar on the first shot, as well as engage in a race against time. If you're not playing TB (Turn Based) you need to alter your attack or defense based on who is the faster at keying. It gets c-r-a-z-y. Especially since there isn't a "GM" so to speak.

I didn't mean fast paced in the sense that everyone posted quickly. I meant fast paced in the sense that the flow of the writing gave the readers a true sense of action. In an RP, there's too much dialogue and such.

I've done the real-time stuff before. It's sloppy and full of people who can't type. That doesn't work for me. ^_^;;

Indeed, writing itself dates back to the old days, where people took care of what they wrote. They could perfect every sentence and every word on their own pace. It is important to understand that RPBing isn't just a way of entertaining us, it is a true skill. Just like writing itself.

It isn't easy to describe an atmosphere. You can describe everything in an area, but if you lack to do it right, you lose the attention of the reader and the sense of your piece as well. Here on the forums we don't rush things. Although it would be nice to see a battle where people reply each day. Anyhow, a day is more than enough to think of something and write it down as well. It builds up experience fast and helps you learn how to detail. Details are huge elements in writing, as I have explained just know. The details stimulate your imagination and makes it more easy for you to realise the situation.

*Chuckle* Wow, did I just type all that^? Anyway, I hope to hear more people discuss RPB's and RPBing in general. It helps us with a lot of things. Because even an experienced man, in anything, will forget his basics once in a while, and he might even learn from a beginner, who is mastering the basics...

Loco, I feel bad for you then. The group I played with were sticklers about proper writing.

And I was busy pwning the ones who couldn't type properly.

I know where you're coming from though. You could run across people who had no regard for the rules you set up for people who fought you, and nubs who had no common sense at all.

I suppose that's why my character killed with wild abandon.

Because even an experienced man, in anything, will forget his basics once in a while, and he might even learn from a beginner, who is mastering the basics...

I'll start by pointing out that signatures are to be turned OFF here in the RPB forum, same as the RP forum. It's an old rule that outdates just about all of the members here, including myself. If you're going to ask why, read the rules. I put up a nifty little explanation about it in there.

I am probably Loco's opposite. I am purely a Roleplayer and nothing else. I have never set foot in this forum other than to browse, usually it was looking for Quistis and Keisuke's battles, that they used to always do. Though I do not think they do anymore. But I pretty the story, adventure, character development over the battle, which is why I do not RPB.

I have done a type of RPB. But that was chatroom based, and probably the only way I would prefer it since it is quick, and all reflex based. At least the version I played, it was very simple nothing excessive in typing, just basic actions a lot of times. I had a lot of fun with a friend of my, we had an anime type world we roamed around and it is all about the fights. Sometimes we would fight each other and sometimes we would be a few different characters and I would be me and a villain and same with him and we would battle it out. Sometimes I was the villain because I got knocked out or something.

That was my first introduction into Roleplaying, it was pretty basic, but it was tons of fun and quick, you could sit down for a couple hours and get out this long adventure and then just start up something new another day. It was probably one of the more unique ways I have seen and it make battles a lot more fun, since your typing speed was the speed of your attacks. So if you dodge before they can connect, you get the idea. Though it ran into issues with AIM being a little slow and sometimes we would type at the same time and would get to results. But overall it was a great experience.

Why if I enjoyed that, do I not touch this, I am still in it for the adventure. The battling here never interested me because it was all so drawn out. It was like playing chess with someone through mail corspondence, it takes forever, the heat of the moment is gone. It is like you paused a movie in the best part and it has you all psyched up, but your mom is calling you to do some chores. You come back and the mood is all break, wasted away because you were away so long. You can try to rewind, but it is just no good, it is like an echo, dimmer than the last time. There is no fluidity.

So be amazed, because this is probably the first and only post you find of mine in this forum.

Seriously, it's not difficult to click that little box.

And I think the reason people aren't interested in your fight is because it's a 5v5 -- personally, I loathe anything more than 2v2, though I even avoid those when possible.

I miss the way it used to be around here too. Back when I first took over the forum it was all called RP forum. Then as both kinds of RPing got popular we split it into t
