New Rock = I hate myself music

Can teenagers who learn how to play instruments PLEASE talk about something other than how they hate themselves, their parents, their lives, or their girlfriends?

I know everyone can relate, but is the message REALLY that positive? Is talking about suicide goin to prevent it? Lets have a little more accountability.

I must say i am bias, since i like hip hop and old rock, but OLDER rock (AC/DC, Aerosmith, Eagles) get the energy flowing. I do admit though there is still good rock out there and i like peoples antics, but the constant complaining and they're preceived "rebellion" is killin the music. Someone must tell teenage (and even older) rock bands, that if a lot of people have the same music, tell the same message, and marketing the same, its not too rebellious and they're just misunderstood.

It's like when misinformed youth in the media take a stance on contraversial issues (mainly political) and it sounds like a regeritation from CNN that night. I know it is because they are not educated and they have not yet learned to think for themselves, but if you are spittin the same garbage as Wolf Blitzer, then maybe you should keep your opinions to yourself.

i understand, but is that really elevant? not all teenagers hate themselves...im 17 and i can play guitar, but, i dont listen to new rock, i listen to power metal, black metal, death metal and glam/sleaze metal....

i still think that this topic is slightly harsh!

I do believe you're talking about the new wave emo music. Well, the media and music industry as of late has decided to say, "**** it! We can just sell shitty bands who aren't unique, sound the same, but reflect upon young teenagers life to get their money!", so here comes out all these new rock bands. I suggest you get into metal (not nu-metal), and maybe it'll shed some light on you. Lots of good metal bands who aren't selling themselves out.

It isn't really 'as of late'. The music industry has always been that way - it has always been a swamped industry. It has always been money driven and it has always been targetted to a younger age bracket because, believe it or not, they have time to spend on such things. Adults, especially these days, don't have time for it - stress such as work and relationships get in the way.

The perception of 'rebellion' has always been there - hell, one of rock music's trump cards was it's image of rebellion. Especially in early punk rock (Sex Pistols anyone? The Saints, perhaps?). Where you got this 'political issues' stuff I'd like to know - could you name a few groups who do this? Preferably more than 10, since one or two really doesn't cover that wide of a spectrum.

Hip hop sounds all the same to me.
















Got you there, didn't I? I bet you thought "omg that is so not true'. The same goes for 'new rock' music - it doesn't really sound all the same, you just have to look around more to find original stuff. Same deal with hip hop.

Marketting has always been the same - make record > tour, advertise, merchandise > repeat. Nothing new, always the same.

one reason i cant really listen to good music cause my mom says "you can listen to that HATE music"...

seriously though i like originality but what ever happened to like the gorillaz or RHCP most people dont even know eho they are o.o

i cant stand hip-hop most of the time cause most usually talking of "bitches"
or getting laid...or getting your 17 yr old gf pregnant...i cant stand that its F***ing RE***TED.

Allthough its more rock, I suggest listening to PowerMetal or Folk Metal, there is heaps of happy stuff out there, its just not mainstream emo crap.

I like folk, bluegrass, English folk music, but goddamn is it like the most depressing music out there. Most of them actually have stuff to be depressed about. There is upbeat music out there, but people seem to be fascinated by their own misery.

There are a lot of really bad pop bands, but thats been true since the 70s. Part of the problem is that the teenage music reflects teenage society - stupid. Spoiled, bratty, never being told no.

There is a lot of really good music being made out there. It just isnt on the radio. You can usually tell if the music is good if it sounds like a couple people got together and played songs they liked.
