SILVER ASH [silver colored ash] band was formed at the begining of 2000, it is not only Bei Jing's but also China's very first, true to the form [Visual Rock visual kei] Rock and roll band. Up till now, the band has only three medium to small live performances, but they already have countless fans, mainly consistes of young girls, their intense and great love for the band and the band's member's music/performances/costume/ demeanor is unreproducable, besides the fact that the high levels that each members have reached interms of their music/appearence, Visual Rock, in itself, is a commerical music that has an enormous marketing potential. This type of music has its origin in Euroamerica's Glam Rock/ created in Japan, after 20 years of development and commericalization, already have a vast market in Asia, with countless successful examples, every succesful Visual band could sell albums in the millions, esepcial in Japan/Hong Kong/ Xin ma area (no clue where this is), Visual rock music has become a cultural phenomenon, including records/clothings/ judgement of beauty and other commercial fields, brining in vast popularity for the band, and also flowing monetary gains. Therefore, after some close understandings and discussions with the band, [How Jiao Records] and SILVER ASH have signed a contract.

[Silver Ash]'s music:

Silver Ash's music making is in the direction of a mix of fantasy music/British rock/Ge Te(no clue what this is) rock and traditional hard rock new music band type of music, it should also have grandiose background/sad yet beautiful melody/harsh guitar backup/sense of confusion and aloofness in ideals. The band's music so far have basicly reached these elements and also have developed their own uniqeness, it should be said that, [SILVER ASH]'s music, from a certain point of view, is more or less commerical type of popular rock and roll music, emotional and expressiveness is its main guidence, life and love its main theme, SILVER ASH uses the emotions of youth of the ending century to express the sad and dramatization of human love and struggle, and guitarist Lucy uses very elegant, pensive and beautiful melody, as if there is hoplessly coldness under those grand and elegant outer appearences. It should be said that, from the music aspect, [SILVER ASH] is also unprecendent in China.

Silver Ash's Stage appearence:

Silver Ash's appearence is one of their important origins, this of course is due to their wish to do away with traditional music. Like the over sea's visual bands, they too have dazzeling appearences, the main theme of the costume design is: a mixture of Elegant/surreal/exageration of the curves on the body/ full of visual shock's stage elements and also judgement of beauty from eastern cutlure, at the same time brining in modern trend.

Well maybe you should consider posting THIS LINK instead, so that people can actually listen to some of the songs rather than just look at a single picture. No one said he was "bashing" them... you linked to a picture. Kinda hard to make a solid judgement from a picture.

Anyway, I don't have RealPlayer installed because I try to keep as much poorly written software off of my system as possible, so I can't listed to their songs, except for a couple at the end which were in .mp3 format.


I gotta say, it's an interesting blend of musicality. I kinda like it.

Looks like another Asian rip-off of Western extravagence in stage music, if you ask me.

Please don't ask me to 'listen' to their music. I am staunchly against groups that don't play their own instruments - I assume, this 'group' doesn't play their own instruments. Hell, don't even get me started on this 'visual rock' crap - if they have nothing to say except make money, they can get the **** out.

EDIT: Okay, they play their own instruments - however, they're using the same tactics as 80's glam rock bands. How typical.

If they were American or European, they'd be touring Eastern Europe as we speak, playing half empty clubs for people wearing Poison and Bon Jovi t-shirts...

They're using Visual Kei style developed in JAPAN, starting from X Japan, one of the most globally recognized asian bands...and Visual Kei is MUCH more varied than 80's rock style, they always have a genral theme, but if you look up:

Malice Mzer
Dir En Grey
X Japan
L'arc en Ciel
Pyscho le Cemu
Silver Ash

They all have a different look, sometimes completely. And also, a focus in Visual Kei is also to look very, very in-between when it comes to gender...sometimes even feminine.

I'm sure 80's rock style, whle perhaps androgynous, were not feminine-focussed.

Also, if you listen to their music, it's NOTHING like 80's too. I detest your view of them, standard WESTERN PEOPLE's views, tasteless.

A 'look' is only skin deep - and I did listen to their music. "Glam rock" immediately came to mind, and that is definitely part of western popular music. The sound of the artist matters more, not silly images and costumes; things that are forgotten with time - hell, even 70's glam rock's image was ultimately forgotten while the music remained (Queen, anyone? KISS are a possible exception, but the whole 'tongue' thing was pretty unique, even for today)

The 'sound' of the band, now that is something that should gain precidence, not frivilous expressions of sexual ambiguity.

Infact, this whole 'glam' faux pas thing passed awhile ago - back then, it was called Spinal Tap. It was interesting at first, but the joke wore off. Now the only way you can get away with having glam rock-esque silliness is if you're Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, Motley Crue, The Darkness (please die), Suede, The Ark and probably a few others.

For the record, I have no idea who X Japan is, but I hardly see how that matters. X Japan (after a little browsing) formed in 1982 - a decade after the 70's highpoint of Glam Rock - as such, X Japan can't hold any metaphysical torch to being the 'first' to incorporate glitzy costumes.

Not to mention, in their latest tour, they lowered the emphsasis on the visual aspect PUBLICALLY indicating that was a move for their fans to recognize the real goods are the music, the looks are jus ta form of packaging.

Heres an interesting thing: "This type of music has its origin in Euroamerica's Glam Rock" (taken from the blurbs in your first post). Note that it says "Euro" and "America" in that frankstein-like word! That should pretty clearly show you the similarities of this Jap-crap and Western Glam Rock. (Or at least make you start to think about it a little harder and perhaps compare songs from the likes of Spinal Tap, KISS, The Darkness (ugh...), Queen and possibly T.Rex)
I'm not even going to start ranting about the claim that Glam Rock was started in Japan twenty years ago - any self-respecting music buff whom isn't a j-pop fanboy would dispute such a claim with the same reasons I would use. But, if you really want me to, I will

Still, in retrospect, "Silver Ash" don't really bring anything new to the table of popular music, let alone start a real revival in 'Euroamerica glam rock'. Japan's music charts don't even make a dent in other, larger music charts (such as the UK), let alone America's (where the real cash I made, I guess).

I've listened to it... i've gotta say their recording quality is really bloody poor, and their mixing levels are pretty awful too.

Nothing interesting about the music... pretty unoriginal i have to say. Their style does seem to be a little glam rock style... but i'd say their sound is actually boardering on nu metal in parts.

Nothing special about this group... and honestly, if their website is created using geocities, i doubt they will get very far.
However, i do see the implications... as you stated, China doesn't really have much in the way of a Rock scene... so perhaps this group will act as inspiration for other musicians... who knows, within 10yrs China could have a booming Rock and Metal scene like in western society.

Nu-metal? I found no hint of hip-hop/rap vocals, emphasis on bass or DJ-handiwork present in their works. Could you please cite where you picked up that influence? Especially since nu-metal was mostly relegated to the states (well, in the majority)
