311 ! The Greatest Band In The WORLD!

Well here it is boys and girls. The one and only thread devoted to the greatest group in existence, 311.

Here we'll share some stories, write some reviews, tell some anecdotes and more importantly spread the love and positivity that this group so adamantly shares w/ the rest of the world. So let's get to it..

A very brief background : 311 is from Omaha, Nebraska- Land of corn and the open road. Its members consist of Nick Hexum ( Guitars, vocals ), SA Martinez ( vocals, DJ ), Chad Sexton ( Drums ), Tim Mahoney ( Guitar ), and P-NUT ( bass ). They started their professional record career in 1991 when they were signed by Capricorn Records. They have released 8 major studio albums since then....

1) MUSIC - Their first album. This album starts off hard and does not quit. From the opening "Welcome" to the close "F**K the bulls**t", this lbum grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go. A perfect blend of funk, rock, and pure musical aggression.

2) Grassroots - #2. Brink on the noise, bring on the funk. A head bobbers dream. If you like your music with good beats, flowing lyrics, and a little bit hip-hop to regulate - this album is for you. Songs like "8:16 AM" and "Applied Science" make sure you will never have a boring car ride ever again. Try it once, and you will never stop quoting the legend that is SA.

3) 311-Self Titled - The blue album. This is what brought 311 to the main stream. Songs like "Down" and "All Mixed Up" hit the airwaves all over the country. And the world. Quite possibly 311's most adventurous album. Songs are nice, tight, short and stick in your head for days. Loud and proud, this album speaks to everyone.
Not to mention the above named songs went to #1 and #2 onto the billboard charts.

4) Transistor - 311's trippiest album. The boys got experimental with this one. Cool relaxing ballads, heavy duty hardcore rap-rock, and both techno and industrial overtones make this a must own in anyone's collection. Songs like "Galaxy" make you want to jump around and destroy things, but songs like "Rub A Dub" put you in the most relaxing mood you will ever be in.
P.S. To all you stoners out there - YOU NEED THIS!!! Better than anything ya got.

5) Soundsystem - I won't lie-this one is hit or miss. If you have become accustomed to 311, this album will continue to rock your socks. If you are just the casual listener, it may not appeal to you. Either way, this album does have its highlights. The opening track "Freeze Time" totally kicks it into high gear and puts you in a place you have never been... SA's first real work w/ DJing. The track "Eons" is definitely one of 311's best - An instant classic. Pulls at your soul.

6) From Chaos - Your girlfriend's favorite album. A nice mix of hard and soft. Songs like "Amber" and "Champagne" make girls wet everywhere. The coolest, smoothest tracks to date. Calm and collected. Professional. There are some rough spots, but the highlights stand out on this one.

7) Evolver - My personal favorite. 311's most complete package. A PERFECT album. The boys take everything they have learned in 12 years and put it to good use. An flawless blend of soul, positivity and love. Every track on this album just screams talent. This will calm the rocker in you, the rapper in you, the beatmaker in you, and the vocalist in you. Songs like "Creatures For A While" and "Reconsider Everything blow you away and never stop. If you are looking for 311, this is it.

8) Don't Tread On Me - I haven't really found a way to put this one in words yet. Catchy. Emotional. Melodic. Soulful. Kind of..I dunno. A very well done album. 311 decides to appeal to their softer sides. You know that feeling when you have had a bad day at work, and then you get home and just fall on the couch. Its like that. Very soothing, calming, warm. Songs like "Speak Easy" and "Thank Your Lucky Stars" put you in the happy place.

And that's that. I haven't even mentioned the 2 DVD's, 3-11 day, greatest hits album, independent releases, numerous platinum awards, magazine covers etc... I haven't even scartched the surface. That's for you. That's the discussion. .

And that leads us to why. Why is 311 the greatest band in existence?
Simple. 311 is love. The most positive tip in town. There's no gangsta, no violence, and very little swearing. Every track just grabs you, bobs your head and makes ya wanna dance. Their songs are meaningful, poignant, and important. No racism, no politics, no BS. This group appeals to the good in every one of us. Black, white, green, whatever. They scream be proud, be positive, be strong, be proud, LOVE YOUR LIFE. And they sound damn good doing it.

Try it. You will like it.
Now, let's do this.

Definitley a unique sound. My friend and I started listening to them a while back, early last year. They are pretty cool.

311 is definitely a nice band. I even enjoyed their version of "Love song" from The Cure. The guitar was definitely a good vibe. I found these guys like a couple years ago when my family actually got satilite TV, (I found the dish for free XD), but once I found MTV2 on the rock station or late night stuff 311 is a good band to tap your foot too.

I haven't heard too much by them. Just a few random songs like "Amber".

If you wanted to have a discussion with a really dedicated 311 fan... I suggest you talk to Musashiden. Mushman knows his shit.

Musa introduced me to this band a few years ago, when I was blindly bashing them based upon their name. Haha, I was such a n00bish **** when I posted as Cetra Cloud.

Great band. Transistor is amazing.

I quite like them, and their cover of The Cure's "Lovesong" was good. From Chaos definitely my favourite album in general, but I mostly listen to their Greatest Hits for some reason. >.>

311 is a great band, one of my personal favs, right up there with stabbing westward and gravity kills. but i have to disagree with them being "the greatest band in the WORLD" (they are close though) comparing them to all genras of music, but in their particular genra i would agree totally!

i remember sitting back quite a few years ago drinkin beers with some of my friends chillin listening to 311, drunkin pool parties, kind of makes me miss the good ol days!!...
