A Wilhelm Scream

La la la. So last October when I went to visit my brother, he had a huge stack of CD's he no longer wanted. He had picked them up to write reviews for a small site called "Agouti," which is based out of Fremont, or Newark, or Union City, CA, I think (one of the tri city cities, anyway...) Anyway, among this stack was the CD "A Wilhelm Scream: Ruiner." He said he liked the CD, but that he was probably never going to listen to it again. So I took it, and I decided from that CD that "A Wilhelm Scream" is probably the best new band (to me) from 2005 (The Epoxies coming in at a close second, probably... but that's better saved for another thread.)

A Wilhelm Scream is like a cross between a punk rock band and a metal band, with maybe a little bit of a hardcore element thrown in. My friend, who is a metal head, loved this CD. I don't know the technical words as far as guitar stuff goes, but it has a lot of metal guitar elements in it, without the long, obnoxious butt-rock solos, so much. Plus, for the most part, it's fairly friggen' fast, and that's always a plus in my book. The lead singer spends a lot of time yelling and singing at the same time. It is an acceptable skill level of singing in my book, but when he's singing softly for track 6, I think he probably sounds better (unless it's one of the other members singing on that track.)

My favorite two songs off this album are "The Pool" and "God Loves A Liar." Reading the names of tracks (I don't usually pay attention to the names of the songs when I'm listening to the CD) "Me vs. Morrissey In the Pretentiousness Contest (The Ladder Match)" and "The Kids Can Eat a Bag of Dicks" are probably two of the best song titles I've ever heard. EVER. Plus, if I remember correctly, the Morrissey song is pretty cool, too.

A Wilhelm Scream has a myspace page. Go check them out there. Or face the fact that you suck. (That's deep, isn't it?)
