I have stolen the image from your sig and set it as my desktop background. It is one of the best things I have seen on the internet. Communist Party ahoy! Marx with a lampshade on his head!

So thank you, I suppose, for finding it and sharing.

From my understanding, the Cultural Revolution had more to do with Mao seeing himself fading from the public psyche than it had to do with revolution. But perhaps not. Sad, sad times indeed. Good luck with your essay.

She kind of explains the Mao hatred in the book. Her parents, after risking their lives for the Party and serving faithfully, were tortured when Mao went nuts in the 60's. Her father went insane and died around that time, and Jung Chang herself was chastised and beaten by schoolmates doing as Mao commanded: telling her she was too good at English. They all had to pull up every flower in the town, and Chang was beyond demoralised. I compel you to read it. If you're going to have the Little Red Book in your sig, it's something you need to see. It remains banned in China.

Oh and I love the sig... Karl Marx with a bucket on his head makes me lol.

The one and the same. Wild Swans is a compelling book about the lives of three generations of China, told through the stories of Chang's grandmother, her mother and herself. Her grandmother was sold as a concubine; her mother had a boyfriend who was in the Kuomintang and was, in later life, a member of the Communist elite punished greatly during the Cultural Revolution. Jung Chang herself was a little Maoist, working in fields for the nation, before being one of the first allowed to study abroad.

In short, it shows what a twisted place China was under Mao in a far more interesting manner than I have seen before. I really think you would enjoy it.

I hope your parents die in a hurricane, then.

And I hope someone beats you up over your long hair.

Yes, it was hilarious. Pretty ironic that once upon a time, Ringo was dedicated to answering his fanmail. I wonder if this was a way to remind people that he is in fact alive and that he's not getting as many letters anymore.

Angry letters still count, you know!
