'How Do I' Questions

edit by LocoColt04:
The forum staff here at TFF has recently made some minor alterations to the forum rules. Therefore, I ask that you give them another readthrough, or, if you're new, read them anyway. A lot of it is common sense stuff, but it's always best to be aware of any changes.

Rules and Regulations at The Final Fantasy

Things NOT to do at TFF:

Spamming: Spamming on a forum is similar to spam in your email inbox. It is pointless, disruptive, and no one wants it. Spamming on the forums includes, but is not limited to: sudden thread hijacking (changing the topic for no reason); meaningless posts which do not contribute to the topic; placing a topic in the wrong section of the forum; advertising. Moderators decide what is and is not spam, and warnings are given based on best judgement. Trolling, the act of continuing to rehash inappropriate discussions via further spam or flamebaiting, is also not allowed.

Flaming: Flaming is the act of harassing another member. Flamebaiting, the act of harassing someone into flaming you, is also not allowed. This happens in a lot of unintelligent arguments. The ONLY place flaming is allowed is in the flame forum, which has its own set of rules. Read them prior to posting in that forum.

There are differences between flames and opinions, as can be seen below:
"Well, that was a stupid thing to say."
- This is an opinion, and is generally harmless.
"You're incredibly stupid for saying that."
- This is also an opinion, but could be considered flamebaiting. Avoid this.
"Your mother sucked my wang last night, and I liked it."
- This is an obvious flame.

Double Posting: Accidents happen, but try to avoid this to the best of your ability. If it is of utmost importance, it is generally overlooked; however, if you double (or subsequently triple, quadruple, etc.) post repeatedly for no reason other than to be annoying, warnings will be administered.

Pornographic Material: Simply put, this is not allowed. TFF is a family friendly forum. Although many moderators actually have no issues with such content, we will uphold the moral standards of this forum, and enforce this rule. If you are not sure whether something you want to post or put in your signature is appropriate, please ask a moderator prior to posting the content.

Illegal Content: This includes, but is not limited to the discussion of: bombs or any other sort of terrorist plots or discussion; plans for hacking other users/websites/etc.; serials/hacks/wares/cracks (note that discussion of emulation is allowed, but discussion of how to actually hack the games is not). There shall also be NO linking to illegal downloads, torrents, or any other content of the sort.

Multiple Accounts: Just avoid it. There is no reason to have more than one account.

Member Rights:

If you feel you are being hassled by another member, please, REPORT THE POST rather than drawing it into a flame war. Posts can be reported by clicking the little button with an exclamation point on the left side of each post. Please include a valid reason for the report, and moderators will investigate.

Remember, you are the members, not the moderators. It is not your place to tell other members what is and is not against the rules. Use the report system.

Regarding Private Messages: If you and another member are participating in an argument which leads to flaming, that is your own business since it is a private conversation; however, if you feel you are being unfairly harassed, forward the messages to a supermoderator or an administrator and we will investigate the situation.

If you feel you have been unfairly warned or banned by a moderator or supermoderator, take the matter to either another supermod or one of the administrators. The matter will be discussed in the mod forum, and a resolution will be reached.

Do not take the "law" into your own hands. We have a reputation system (the little box with a check and an X) where you can approve or disapprove of a member's message. You may share your opinions in this way, though flaming through rep commentary is still not allowed. Reputation is a good way to see which members are good contributers to the forum, and which are not. Remember, you can also REPORT POSTS via the appropriate button in the postbit. We, as forum staff, would greatly appreciate this.

The Warning System:

Here at TFF, we have a three-strike system, administered via "official warnings." Many times, a member will have a pre-warning or two, as some notification that he or she is breaking the rules. These pre-warnings do not count against the user in any way, but if they are ignored, official warniings will be administered. After three warnings, a member is permanently banned. If a new account is made by the same person, it will be banned upon discovery. Yes, there are always exceptions, but these occur only with forum staff approval.

In rare occasions, a member may be temporarily banned for a length of time spanning one day to one week. While it doesn't happen often, it may be done in the case of a member who doesn't think following the forum rules is necessary.

If two members are wrapped up in an argument, the rules nor the moderators will favor either side. At TFF, we aim to be as fair as we possibly can -- just like all of the members, the forum staff is also not above the rules. If the argument cannot be resolved in a civilized manner via PM, take it to emails or messengers.
Thank you. I now return you to the rest of Sean's post.

Also, please remember that while in the Spotlight Theatre, your signatures need to be TURNED OFF.

This includes the Roleplay forum, RP OOC, RPB, TOA, and TFF RP Tournament sections.

Looking to get to know your fellow TFFers? Well, here's your chance to read about your fellow boardmates and post a bit about yourself, at the TFF Member Profiles thread found at the link below

I would like to point out that while (until two seconds ago) advertising was not listed in this copy of the forum rules, the OFFICIAL rules (seen in any of the announcements anywhere on the forums) include advertising under the category of spam, and have included it for quite some time.

Therefore, arguments against that are still moot. Pardon us for the typo in this copy. It is now fixed.
