~ The King ~

Since last month people call me their king
All over the land they cheer and they sing
A king that’s noblest of heart they claim
They celebrate my presence and with joy call my name

I swore my predecessor I would reign over the folk with good will
I promised to treat them just and without prejudice
I swore to make a difference and never to stand still
I promised never to sin and never to rule with malice

A king indeed I swore to be
But disaster struck for all to see
This kingdom once so great
Was attacked and I was far too late…

Now with this massive kingdom in pieces
I think of the people and their peace that now ceases
The greatest of man is unable to change the tides, I know
But as a king it is I that has to witness the sadness at show

This kingdom shattered, I am just an ordinary man
My title is lost and my promises in vain
I have done all I that I can
Yet my people are still in such pain

So as of now, I can no longer be called ‘king’
Today I am undone, as a bee without its sting
There is little left and nothing more to create
All that is left is to feast with the folk, and accept my fate…
