TFF Writers of Tomorrow Contest

Okay people, time to show us all what you can do! I know for a fact that we have some VERY talented writers here at TFF, and I am anxious to see what you are all capable of. I've been given permission to start up a contest, and this one has no restrictions or limitations on it! No entry fee! Also no cash prize. HOWEVER, our wonderful Administrator, LocoColt04, has volunteered to place the winners on his webpage. So, in a way, you DO get publication...><

We'll have two categories: Short Story and Poetry. Word counts are not necessary, nor are line counts, we just want to see the best you have! Limit of one entry per person per category, though, so make the submission count. Right now I'm going to deadline entries to September 30th, however, if we need to extend that, we certainly can do so.

Please PM me when you have your entry(s) complete and I'll respond with the e-mail address to submit them to. I'd like to see a great turnout for this, people! So, that being said, I'll not take up any more of your time! Start writing!

Please respond with any questions you may have, as well as notification as to which categories you are planning to enter in. ^^;;

Not even a specific topic? No specific guidelines? No word limit or anything? Who's going to judge it? What are going to be the judging guidelines?

I imagine 'short story' and 'poem' are fairly self-explanatory as far as guidelines go lol. More than one word and less than a novel. XD Since there's no specific genre it'll probably be judged on the strength of the writing and style.

What I would like to ask is if there is a deadline so I know how long I can procrastinate.

I'll be entering both categories, naturally.

I wasn't asking what a poem and a short story were. I was asking if we have to have a specific type of poem or a specific type of story. It's not exactly fair to judge a haiku and an epic poem in the same category. Therefore, I figured there would be some form of guideline as to what our poetry should be like. How long, format, etc.

My other questions still stand, especially the ones pertaining to the judging. Just getting one person to judge it all isn't really all that fair. For the contests that I've seen work out, there've usually been three judges at least.

I wasn't saying you were, but I'd figure that would answer your word limit questions. If it's longer than a short story then it'd be a novella and not eligible to be in the short story category, yes? That's all I'm saying.

And to be honest I don't think they'll be judged against each other but individually, and whichever gets the best judgements is the "winner". I imagine there can be more than one winner for each if the writing is just that damn good.

Just speculation on my part, but I think it's the best way to do it and still remain open-ended.

I don't see why they'd be judged against each other, either. If it's someone's first time joining this type of thing and they've never tried fiction writing before, it'd be tough for them to get judged against someone else's writing who's been writing for a while. That's why the judges can't be like "This is good, but not as good as the last one I read. So it wouldn't be right for me to rate this the same."

As far as the judging guidelines go, what are we going to be judged on? For short story, is grammar going to be a factor? What about style or creativity? For the poetry, what's that going to be judged on? If we get ten poems on a love that was lost, how are they all going to be distinguished?

Short Story = Grammar, Spelling, Creativity, Innovation, etc.
Poetry = Flow. Spelling, etc. >.>;

How am I asking too many questions? I was asking questions that hadn't been answered in the original post. I would just like to know what the rules are so that I can follow them. I ask because there's a zillion different ways to write fiction or poetry and I want to make sure, as I said before, it's not going to end up being a haiku in the same category as an epic poem.

Edit: Just saw your post. You could always just write something and submit it, then let psiko tell you if it meets the guidelines or not. XD If it doesn't you can hit him with a trout and demand compensation, or something.

This sounds fun. Sign me up! There's gotta be a day where I'm bored and start on a story. A poem, I think, is too easy. Not that I'm saying that if anyone who would be submitting poems would automatically suck...it's just that...okay, I'll shut up now.

Just expect a short story from me! Hooyah!

I think I'll give this a shot as well. Though I don't know how avid I am at writing a short story, much less a good one, I'll at least attempt it. If I majorly suck, I'll simply never try again hehe (that is if I haven't commited suicide out of loss of honor and a major slump into depression).

Where's the deadline? I still can't find it....
