Earthly Stars

Story prompt I did with DragonHeart. I can tell this will be turning into a book, I think.

Prompt: It was a dark and stormy night...

Title: Earthly Stars

Update: Revised the story. A lot.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Imagine that the String Theory was real; except that it wasn’t what we thought it would be. Imagine if your ideas alone created a whole universe without you knowing it.”

It was a dark and stormy night, and was about to approach three o’clock in the morning when Steven finished writing his latest novel. It was another book for an ongoing series he wrote. The series was called Earthly Stars. It was about a young girl named Alexiel on a quest to complete the first astrological map of the stars and constellations. The latest book had her on a journey with a young man named Prometheus who offered to help her on her quest. She was a bit skeptic of him at first, but by the end of the book, she started to have odd feelings toward him.

He wiped the sweat off his brow as a lightning bolt struck and caused the power to go out. His laptop was lucky and wasn’t plugged into the outlet, so it was still on. It was okay. The story was saved from the outage. Something felt strange afterwards. He wasn’t sure what.

He took a look outside and noticed the rain stopped. However…

His house was on an open prairie field and nothing or no one could be seen for miles. He gulped and rushed back into the house. He checked on his laptop battery and noticed that the battery was still at full power even though it had been on for the whole day. What was going on? He thought as his adrenaline pumped through his body.

He woke up from his slight trance as his ears picked up a thump from a window nearby. He looked through the window, but nobody was there. He took a deep breath and approached the window with caution. What he saw next changed his life forever. It was the girl from his story. The boy from the story was with her as well. He scratched the back of his head as they looked on with confusion towards this strange building that came out of nowhere.

He took a deep breath. In a frantic display of denial, he rushed back to his laptop to confirm what his eyes just saw. He brought it out with him. The descriptions were perfect. They matched one hundred percent. He couldn’t believe this. He had remembered reading about the String Theory, but he never thought something like that could come to the surface. It just couldn’t. It had to be some sort of delusion.

Just then, the girl spoke with a nervous tone.

“Excuse me, mister? Uhm… who are you?”

She was only 14 years old but looked really beautiful to him for some reason. Perhaps it was because he was seeing her in person for the first time. She had a polite smile yet her hands were trembling with fear and nervousness; Nervousness because his house came out of the blue and fell right on top of their campsite.

The boy stood in front of her and had a smug look on his face. He glared at Steven with mal-intent.

“What are you, some kind of wizard?”

Steven took a deep breath. He couldn’t believe what was happening. An actual conversation with the characters he created in his own mind. This was too much to take in, but he had to act calm. He mentally took a deep breath and spoke.

“My name is Steven. Steven Zelda. I, er…” he didn’t know what else to say. They probably wouldn’t believe him if he told them the truth. He had to think of something fast.

“I’m afraid to say, I don’t know how I got here. And no, I’m not a wizard of any kind.”

There was no power in his house at all except for his laptop. He smiled with an anxious flow about him, and let them in his house. They looked at each other with fear and determination, nodded, and walked inside. The two looked around at all the interesting things that were in his house. The most important thing that stuck out was a small shelf of books. Prometheus picked up a book and noticed the cover. It was called Earthly Stars, and it had a picture of a girl on the cover. She looked remarkably close to Alexiel. Too close. He just stood there blinking for a while, before it registered in his mind. Then sweat formed above his brow and his eyes widened, pupils growing smaller.

What the hell is going on here?” he thought to himself. How could there be a book about them? Where did Steven come from? Who was Steven, really? All these questions raced through his mind at once. He shook his head to regain his composure.

A few hours later, after they all sat in the living room talking about how he came here and what happened when he came here, Steven decided to head to the kitchen to get them all something to eat. He was afraid that the food would all have gone bad from inside the refrigerator. But he had learned that his refrigerator had power, so his food was still in good shape. It looked like all the important utilities had power somehow. He wasn’t going to complain though. Steven still wore the clothes he had on the day before. He had on denim shorts and a button up silk shirt that was light blue and had dragons on it.

Alexiel had long navy blue hair with green mystifying eyes that soothed even the roughest soul. She was the same height as Steven. She wore traditional adventurer clothing. Leather shoes with a black skirt going down to her knees. She wore a rippled cloak. It was the same color as her hair and her top was a leather vest.

Prometheus wore khaki colored shorts with a white t-shirt that had dirt stains on it. His hair was black and his eyes were a blazing red. His expressions were that of an intelligent yet arrogant brat. Kind of like Steven, some would say. Although, Steven wasn’t arrogant as he was lazy.
