Alastair Reynolds

Wikipedia Article.

By reading that you can find out basic information about the article as well as what he has written. I just heard about him today, literally a couple of hours ago, and he sort of interested me. Well, that is to say, one of the books he has authored interested me.

I know next to nothing about the guy, only what is written in the aforementioned article, so it is natural that I turn to the wise members of TFF to get more of a "review" on him as a writer. I want to read a book of his, Revelation Space, but I'm not sure if I will like it. I hear he is "hard science fiction" whereas I am pretty much new to the genre. That is to say that I have read SOME of what sci-fi has to offer, but I am not a maniac about it.

The general idea behind this thread, and the question that I am asking you guys, is this:

Should a relative newcomer such as myself take on the "workload" of reading and trying to understand what a former Astrophysicist can write on the topic of space?

I hear he is a pretty daunting and intelligent read, so it sort of makes me weary about reading his books. But he does seem interesting.

Any comments on him or his books? Yes? No? Was this thread completely unnecessary and incredibly illeligible?
