He's a British Author who moved to America. Ive read Neverwhere, and am now on Smoke and Mirrors which is a lot of short stories that i quite fancy. Any others out there? _Z_ |

What, no one ever replied to this? For shame!
My boyfriend bugged me for years to read Sandman. That's what got me hooked on his writing. I guess hooked is the wrong word. Sucked into is more like it. I've never been a reader of comic books or graphic novels but the Sandman series made me really care about the characters.
Neverwhere was good, but the BBC televised version (which the book is based on) was great. I read the book first, without knowing it was based on a TV series. He's also written American Gods, and a wonderful, modernish fairy tale called Stardust.

That's nice. If you're going to necropost (i know it's on the list), at least be more intelligible than that, eh? Add more content please. Explain why. In detail.
Edit: For anyone who's curious, I haven't read any of his work, that's why I can't comment on it. Or else I would. Obviously. =P

Neil Gaiman is a master. He knows his stuff and can work miracles.
I've read several of his latest stuff. He worked miracles with the old Black Orchid series. American Gods and Anansi Boys were so well written. Very few authors in remembered history dealt so well with mythology.

You know, its odd...a lot of Gaimen chooses to write about I have little to no interest in. Sandman, for me, was just a novelty, something to check out of the library and read to occupy a few spare moments, nothing more. Even Good Omens, a book written on a subject that normally facinates me in conjunction with another author I enjoy didn't really capture my imagination when I first heard about it and read its description.
But his writing is incredibley compelling...with some books its an ardous task to get from boring beginning to sometimes enjoyable and sometime disapointing end. With Gaimen the beginning does not have to be defined and the end can be just as ambigous...the journey itself is what is important and what draws the reader in line by line, wanting to know what happens next more than what the ultimate conclusion may or may not be. Gaimens good, but I couldn't exactly tell you WHY he's good. Perhaps its an eye for the bizzare in the mundane, or even the way when he is presenting incredible characters he has a habit of writing them in a style that lends them something of the common place and renders them a position in reality rather than in fantasy. You should read Sandman if you haven't, and I need to get ahold of a copy of american gods. If you want a sampling of his work, however, and don't want ot have to pay an arm and a leg (which you would for most of the Sandman volumns these days) then I suggest reading Smoke and Mirrors.
