The Princess' Quest - Black Version

~ The Princess’ Quest ~
~ Black Version ~
Once upon a time there was a kingdom that ruled over the beautiful and stretched lands of their world. They were well maintained and reigned with an iron fist. It was a perfect society where everyone was obedient.

Beyond the vast green forest, lay the castle of the kingdom, where the King and his daughter, the Princess looked over the land. The giant castle held many citizens. They were all of high standards and were the elite of the society. The King’s daughter was his most prized possession and he was proud of having someone as gorgeous as her as his daughter. This was where the beautiful Princess should be, this is where she would be the most efficient, in the safety of the grand castle.

One day, the Princess found herself alone in her room. She looked out the window, where she could see beyond the great forest and saw the nearby village. She saw the many children play and the people who enjoyed being around each other. She thought to herself and wondered why she didn’t recognise those feelings. The Princess stepped away from the window and walked through the large corridors of the castle. As she did, she kept on contemplating on how she never experienced what the villagers had. For hours she promenaded, thinking, and ignoring all greets as she did.

Evening came and the Princess retired to her room. There, she thought even more. Outside, she saw the sun setting and she realised another day had passed so easily. From that moment on, the Princess didn’t hesitate anymore. She quickly ran towards the door and made haste to one of the prisoner’s quarters. They should’ve still been at their lecture at this time. She grabbed the clothing she found in one of their rooms and changed in to them. Nobody noticed the changes as she made her way outside of the castle, as everyone was used in seeing her dressed in royal clothing.

As the Princess stepped outside, she took a deep breath. For some reason, she seemed quite happy. The royal guards looked at her full of disgust, thinking another prisoner was released. She couldn’t believe how easily she fooled them and was glad to know that she had started her journey towards the village. As the sun was still slowly going down, the Princess walked through the forest. She enjoyed every second of the awkward colour shades she saw, which were created by the setting sun. She followed the long path that led her all the way to the village.

The first thing she saw upon entering the fairly large village was the giant bonfire on its square. She witnessed people making music and dancing to it around the huge fire. It made her smile. Suddenly, she was pulled towards the circle of dancing people by a one of the young men. Before she even realised it, she was surrounded by the joyful people, who were laughing, dancing and celebrating. The Princess did not even know what they were celebrating, all she knew was that the feeling she had then, was a feeling she never had before. A feeling that she didn’t want to lose.

Night eventually came upon the village and the people, along with the Princess, kept on dancing the long night away. All their worries seemed to have faded away during the night as they watched the sun slowly rise. The Princess met many new people and was amazed by their lifestyle. She wished to stay longer, but knew she couldn’t, for she had to return to the castle. She bid her farewell to everyone and retraced her steps back towards the castle.

While she was walking the long path to the castle, she thought about everything that had happened the last night. She enjoyed every bit of it, but still she felt as if though something were missing. It kept her pondering the whole time. She tried to ease her mind by looking at the large trees and the dark green colour they had. She suddenly noticed something disturbing; a pack of wolves was gathering to feast on the young Princess. As she got surrounded by the wolves, she knew she was helpless. She had no options and it seemed that this would become the place of her death. Fortunately, someone heard that she was in distress and ran to her help. It was a young man of around the Princess’ age dressed in a black garb. He didn’t hesitate even a second to pull out two sharp daggers. And within a matter of seconds, the young man demonstrated his skills and defeated the pack.

Before the Princess even had the chance to speak to the black-hooded male, he dashed away and disappeared in the woods. The young Princess was impressed by his performance and was glad to still be alive. A bit shocked from the whole incident, she continued to walk up to the castle. The guards noticed her approach and questioned her: “Halt! What brings you back to the castle?” It took them a while to recognise their own Princess: “Oh, Princess, it is you. Why would you disguise yourself as a filthy prisoner?” Even though they seemed confused by the situation, they failed to understand how they could’ve let the Princess out of the castle in the first place.

The Princess went straight to the throne room, which she had to use to get in to her own room. She ran into her father, the King, who wasn’t pleased with her absence: “Where in heavens name have you been? Didn’t you realise that you worry me sick if I don’t know your location!” The King was infuriated by the Princess’ acts and she didn’t seem to take it so lightly either. She started to feel a strange hate towards her father as she marched towards her room.

Before she could even open her door, she heard the throne room doors opening. Hiding behind the giant red curtains at the sides of the room, she watched carefully how the person entered the room. It was the black-hooded man from before. A sudden smile appeared on the Princess’ face. He walked up to the King which greeted him with a warm welcome: “Greetings, stranger. What takes you to my grand castle? Are you here for diplomatic reasons. Or perhaps some attendance with the Princess?” The stranger didn’t seem to find the King’s welcoming at all impressive: “King, your time has come to an end. Your kingdom shall fall before you right here and now!” The stranger drew his daggers as he did in the woods. The King was an excellent fighter, but in this case, the man was unarmed. The Princess witnessed this event and saw a Knight’s armour standing, holding a sword. She reached for it, but hesitated in doing so. She then pulled her hand back and watched how her father was murdered in cold blood.

The Princess began to smile even more and ran towards the man and hugged him: “Oh, my hero!! I knew you were the one for me! We were meant to be together. My father is was a fool and his ways were outdated. Now we can rule together!” She looked at the man filled with joy, she noticed he wasn’t smiling though. Suddenly, her happiness was somehow disturbed by a strange feeling in her gut. She reached for it and looked at her hand to see it was dyed crimson. It felt almost surreal, it all went so fast for her. She heard the black-hooded man speak: “I am sorry Princess, these were my orders; to assassinate the Royal family at all costs. It is a shame you are as beautiful as a goddess spreading her wings towards the light. But, now you can do so. Spread your wings Princess…farewell…” Saying that, the man turned around to leave the throne room and heard the young Princess fall to the floor…
