My Dissapearance

If I was to suddenly disappear would anybody notice? Is my role in life such an important one? Would those at school notice? Would you guys on TFF notice?

Someone will always notice, whether you notice them noticing or not. So, to answer your question, yes. It's kind of the like 'if a tree falls and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound' type deal. Of course it makes a sound. =P

We've had a thread like this in the past. I believe it was titled "Do I Matter?" or something along the lines of.

A good friend taught me that it's impossible to not be important, at least to some. There's always somebody who would notice, and care, and wonder if we disappeared.

I remember, when I was in school, there was this little boy who disappeared one day. I remember I kept looking out for him, but he never returned. I never found out what happened to that little boy and this thread made me remember it.

After a while, a long time, if you will, you'd be thought about less and less because your presence, having been absent for so long, would be less thought upon and less acknowledged.

You'd never be properly forgotten, though.
That counts for everyone.

people will only notice you or even notice you are gone if you do something to make them remember you. i don't know you personnaly but i remember you and i imagine if you live your life as you post on TFF then you will always be remembered where ever you are as long as you make a impression on the people you meet along the way.
so to go back to laments terms yes you will be remembered as long as you stay as you are.

I've often thought "shit, why isn't my life worthwhile enough for me to be noticed?" but my good friend taught me my life is worth living, even if certain things make me feel it is not. I'm grateful for knowing I would be noticed and cared about if I was to disappear.

The most likely thing to happen to me, would be that I would get hit by a car or something. Road safty around here sucks balls.

Not so much disappearing, as dying.

The odd thing about this statement is that it is misleading in it’s truth. Typically, you don’t need to “do anything” to have people remember you. You would be surprised how easily people remember the small things you do. I’ve held doors open for people, or smiled and said “Hello” while passing them in the hallway and about a week later they remember me. While this may not be on the same level as what the majority of you guys are talking about, it is still forging a memory with someone.

I can say for sure that if I disappeared without a trace, there would be inquiries. Family will always remember you, so that doesn’t really count. And while the line may fade every once and awhile, there may be someone in the future that will ponder who their great great uncle was and what they did with their life.

Friends will remember you always. If they are any kind of friend, then you will always be in their hearts and minds. It sounds Hallmark, but it is true. I’ve made good friends on TFF and elsewhere, and I would like to think that if I were to disappear one day, people would ask questions. Hell, even people who don’t like me may start to ask questions.

There are two ways to be remembered, really. There is being remembered by your friends and family for being their friend and part of the family and then there is the being remembered by everyone for doing something worthwhile.

Basically, all I am getting at is this:

I don’t know if I’ve made such an impact on the world that I would be remembered for years and years to come, but I know for a fact that I have made enough of an impact on the people in my life that they would remember me for at least a few years. In the case of my disappearance, that is.

And I’m not entirely too sure my posts are clear enough to be meant for this forum. But I will try harder next time!

I'd like to point out that there's a difference between your family and friends noticing you dissapear, and people on the internet. Big, big difference.

If I were to leave the internet: A few people would notice. After a period of time where my absense was longer than normal.

If I were to dissapear from real life: They'd notice right away. Family, work... stuff like that.

yeah I agree Tiffany, it's obvious that people that you know in life will notice that you aren't there anymore. But people on TFF...I mean, if I were to leave would anyone care?

...if I ever do stop posting without me mentioning me leaving for an extended period of time then somethings wrong, remember that for future reference.

I could have dissapeared already... Hee Hee... Everybody's posting made me remember the death of an old man who lived near me. They only discovered his death (weeks later) because of the funny smell... That's definitly not what I want...

Tiffany, see, I'm more likely to be noticed gone on the Internet then I would be in real life, mainly because I've quit my job, I don't have friends around here -- only people that would realise, would be my family.

I have a long distance boyfriend, who would probably be curious as to my whereabouts after a while. And I have many close friends that KNOW I'm online every single day. They'd probably be worried to see me gone after a second day, so they'd notice.

Long ago, I prepared a note for if I was to "disappear" as it were, or die, which I keep in a place where I know people would look after my death. It's a list of my passwords for MSN, and peoples' phone numbers that I'd want knowing of my death. There's only a few numbers in there, and addresses, and I usually ask people before putting their names into it. Within the exception of my boyfriend, whom keeps a firm place there anyway.

Would would know if I disappeared, because I'd want them to (unless they wouldnt want to, in which case I'd let them figure it out after a while.)

Heck, I'd notice the regular hot dog man missing. I remember faces to places, friends, all kinds of people...of course, if one of my friends went missing or something, I'd freak more than if it was Greasy Joe.

When I moved, people missed me. Not in the way I wanted them to, but hey, I was remembered! Yeah...no matter how small you think you are, there's always at least one person who cares.
