If you consider european settlers in the 1500's illegal immigrants, you're probably right.

But then again, if you consider the actual facts, you realize that most of America's population is descended from one of three waves of immigrants: The first settlers and any slaves they brought over, the mid-1800's Irish and Western European wave, or the Eastern European wave of the early 1900's. These were all legal immigrations, and prove you completely wrong. Please check your facts before calling everyone in this thread dumbasses.

I agree with you. I just can’t believe how ignorant some of these people are. Sure the people are here illegally but it’s just not logical to send such a large number of people back to their country lets be realistic no American would willingly do the jobs that these people do for such a low payment.

Another thing I thought of, although this is just for shits and giggles, would to be put all the illegals in the fast food business. This would cut down on them stealing "our" jobs, as well as cut down on the number of fat people. I mean you wouldn't want to order a burger and fry from someone who can't even speak english would you?

The last part i just found ignorant even if it was just for "shits and giggles"

I'm much more open minded in terms of immigration, I don't care what race you are as long as you're not a bum or a criminal. If you're talented in a profession and wish to work in that profession in my country, go for it wherever you're from, if you've got a skill and want to come to England, and you're a legitimate person, you're welcome in my eyes.

I'd rather have 100 talented Japanese graduates with innovating ideas than 5 million scrounging chavs who contribute nothing to society, its all about quality over quantity.

People care more about race than worth, a persons worth is not in their race, but in what they can do for society. I don't care what colour you are as long as you're able to help yourself, others, the country and society in general with your skill or talent.

Did you read...any of what has been posted in the last 3 pages? We already got the point out that the southern US border is becoming militarized like the rest of the world, and tht Americans would do the jobs if they were in proper conditions and paid a wage that kept people above the poverty line. I'm sure anyone who lives in Flint, Michigan (a la Michael Moore, the town that was turned into an unemployed community because of a closed plant) would love to work a job that paid $9.00 an hour building fences or digging ditches - it would keep them and their children fed.

The point I'm trying to make is...this is the Intellectual Discussion forum. Please read what has already been said, then respond to it - don't just jump in with opinions that have already been voiced, and more articulately than you could manage in your 4 lines of red text.

To respond, however, if you think America has become lazy as a country...you're probably right. We're, on average, overweight slobs, and we need to work on that. Now, I'm not going to go into how our "Small" size sodas are "Large" in Europe and all that, but needless to say, we need to work on our image as Americans. However, this has nothing to do with ilegal immigration, so i fail to see how American laziness has anything to do with illegal hiring practices of landscaping and contracting companies, or a militarized border.

In other words...please formulate a valid opinion and back it up, then get back to me.

i tell you what, when your unemployed and u go to the centre to sign in and claim your benefits and see an illegal in front of you who gets a house, a car, a yearly salary and clothing for being in the country a week and then u step up after having worked in the country for 35 years and u get £52 a week for u and your family to live off of then try telling me to have a heart. I can't obide by people coming in and stealing our livelihood

It seems silly to call anyone who is for obeying the law a racist. Could you not argue that the people that continually argue that we need illegal immegrants in the country to do the work that Americans won't do more reacist. I mean are they not just saying that people from other countries will do any crap job because of their race. I don't believe that not being American means that you are going to be happy to do the crappy jobs that Americans won't.

I also believe that any race should be allowed to immigrant legal. However I tend to question what type of people we are getting illegally. If they are crossing the border because their family is starving and they can't find a job in their home country could it be because they are undereducated and under qualified. This seems to be the case when findings from 2002 showed that the percentage of immigrants without a high school diploma was 30 percent, or more than 3.5 times the rate for natives. Also by sneaking into the country it suggests that the laws of the country that they are infiltrating are not that important to them. They cost the government about $75 million annually, for incarceration. Twenty-five percent of the inmates in federal prisons are illegal immigrants; this percentage does not include state prisons. I agree that we should continue to let any immigrant that is willing to work for citizenship into the country. Still we I think we should look for law abiding people that don't just plan to live off of the government. We want to add to the greatness of our nation not take away from it.

Well, I'm a legal immigrant, almost a citizen, now, and I'm against illegal immigration.
As I've said before somewhere else, when you are poor, you do what you have to do in order to survive, however, breaking the law, shouldn't be one of your options.
I don't care how desperate you are and yes, I've been there myself, there are always options other than just breaking the law and them blaming it on the need to feed your children.

The marchs and protests bother me to no end because they say "I'm breaking the law, I'm proud of it and you should understand me and give me benefits for doing so".

I don't want to hear "but they are in misery and you are mean for not helping them!!, "but you are a racist!!" (even though I am latin american, myself) or "but they do the jobs others don't want!".

I hear the mexican president is peeved at Bush for not helping the illegal mexican immigrants out, hello?, how about the mexican goverment helping the mexican citizens?, whatever right they've got to get pissed at the american goverment, if they don't do their job right?, why should the american goverment help everyone and their mother?, they have a job to do and it simply isn't providing a toasty meal and a comfy mattress to everyone that comes in, demanding it.
That particular notion about this country, bothers me as well, but I do realize that talking about that could open a can of worms, so, I'll leave it there.

Lastly, I would comment on the whole "they do the jobs americans don't want!", but it has already been pointed up that that is utter missinformation.

Do things right, apply at your local INS, it isn't all that hard, it is expensive, but not impossible, sure, you have to wait in line and have pictures taken; way easier than crossing the frontier on foot.
Now, I know that most people would be denied entry, and that is why I favour working programs; if honest working to feed you seven children is what made you come here illegaly, a worker program will be perfect for you.
