Simple. Chicken.
Some other random bird-animal EVOLVED into a chicken and then *shock* it layed an egg or two. It went on from there.. Sorry about such a short post, but there's really not much to say XD.

Eggs most likely existed long before chickens, definitely before the modern day chicken, and I believe that the evolved chicken would have hatched from an egg. With that reasoning I say...

The waffle came first. It came, was eaten by a farmer, then was no more....so sad.
I think the egg came first. The egg held the original chicken that laid the next egg. The first chicken came from an egg of another creepy animal that laid eggs...probably...creepy animals...
