Split Humor and Word Games? Please share your opinions

I want a few member opinions before we make a decision about this. We're considering dividing Word Games and Humor again like it used to be. That way, threads for humor would not be lost within all the word games. The spam thread has also been brought up. We're hesitant because it takes so much effort to moderate. Once I go to sleep and wake up again, I've missed tons of posts and possible flames. I'd like to put my faith in you guys and trust that someone would report it, but not everyone does. In GC, anyway, I think people just assume that someone will see it. There's also the whole issue of members ignoring the rest of the forum and focusing on the spam thread.

Anyway! What I'm asking: Would you trade threads like "three word posts" "2 words about yourself" and other threads that might as well be spam threads... for the actual spam thread? As in... if I closed them and opened a spam thread, would that suit you guys? And would you at least try to make things easier for the staff by reporting posts?

EDIT: I'm not promising a return of the spam thread. We haven't finished discussing it yet. But I wanted to know what you guys thought about it before we acted.

EDIT: I changed the thread title because the one I gave it was so vague. Silly me.

I have a question. What's the point of a spam thread? all i saw was a bunch of words with no spaces. I couldn't even see it as entertaining.

You're not the only one who has that opinion. A lot of people saw it as pointless. A lot of random posts just for the sake of being random. However, others used it as a place to chat with one another. Most of these word games have a similar function, but with more regulations.

Thanks for your thoughts. I'd like to hear more.

Well I don't know, I kind of like the way it is now. People were complaining the last time about how that spam thread was posted in the most and that the rest of the forum was neglected. I suppose it is still like that now but I'm sure a lot of people would like to see the Spam thread back again. I liked those threads but they got a bit out of hand at times and can see why it was stopped. It would be good to see the Humor section back again though, that way the posts won't go unnoticed. They keep disappearing in the list at the moment because of everybody posting in the games.

It doesn't worry me in the long run, I do like the games they have now but the Spam thread coming back might be cool.. as long as people don't do stupid things in it. If it doesn't go ahead, that's fine as well. Either way is good for me!

I'm reluctantly in support of the spam thread, in the sense that I really don't want to see it back, but I really won't stop its return, either. I suppose you could say that I'm somewhat on the fence for this matter.

More importantly than that thread, let's focus on the bigger issue -- splitting up Word Games and Humor. It used to be that way quite some time ago, and I would love to see this happen again. We're just looking for some opinions on THAT matter first of all.

The potential return of a spam thread is secondary, and unimportant for the moment.

I would be all for the sepration of word games and humor again. How it used to be made navigating a bit easier.

As far as the spam thread goes, I don't really think it needs to be brought back. It received more attention than the rest of the forum which I personally think is absurd. This is a final fantasy forum. If you want the spam thread, I suggest you go and find another forum more suited to threads and postings along the lines of 'HUR HUR BANANA!' & 'OMG NOOB!!!111ONE'

Yeah, that was half of the reason for taking it away to begin with.

The spam thread regulars fought back with "well then we'll take our activity elsewhere!" and most of them did. If you look at any of the spam forums they created, they all died off after about a week. It's not like they were contributing much activity to any other part of the forum, so losing all of them didn't really hurt us. If anything, I'd say the forum has thrived since its removal.

That's why I'm on the fence about it. Honestly, I'm not entirely opposed to the idea of having a spam thread again, but I won't hesitate to say I'd rather not have it at the same time.

If most people used the spam thread to chat, why not bring the Chat function back? I personally only used it a few times, but that was because most people who would chat were in the spam thread instead. So I stopped using the Chat and went to the spam thread, too. But on the same note, the spam thread could also be used for prettymuch anything useless that doesn't fit anywhere else. Maybe things that apply to other sections, but are small and unimportant ... say, I could post in the spam thread about how pissed I am that I never find anybody to party with in FFXI, and how if it doesn't change I might let the free month run out instead of paying to continue playing.

As for splitting up Word Games and Humor ... I like the idea of Humor being by itself. That way, it wouldn't get clogged up with the little games, and it would thrive. It's like word games are the weeds that are choking out the carrots of humor. Or maybe the tomatoes of humor. Or even the cucumbers of humor. What I'm trying to say is that you should seperate your crops for better production. That way, you have good cucumbers on one side and good weed on the other, instead of ... weedy cucumbers, I suppose.

Yeah, I think splitting Word Games and Humour would be a fairly good idea. The actual Humour threads seem to be fewer and alot have fewer posts, so people have to be scrolling through all the word games to try and find them. And vice versa, really.

I think splitting them would be better, however, I don't think we should make a new big spam thread.

"Post three words" already seems to be the heart of all of general chat and word games sometimes....... =\

Closing that and making a spam thread would only worsen the constant activity in a possibly new spam thread.
