Why can I not ignore moderators/is there any way this can be arranged? Also, what exactly does the ignore tool entail? Do you not see any of the person's posts at all?

| You also won't receive PMs or anything of the sort from them. They are essentially invisible to you. And the reason you can't ignore staff members should be pretty obvious. |

You see a message that says the members' name and "view post", etc. It means you cannot see the content in the post, but you can see that a post was made by ignored members.

Do they show up in members list, or is it the same deal? It's there, but you can't see anything?

They show up in the member's list. You can still see their profiles. You just can't see their posts.
