...Doesn't it kind of go without saying that you don't stand your SNES on its side while using it? Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the original question of this thread only pertained to consoles that were built to be played standing up, not your SNES.

I keep mine up right because my wii hasn't worked multiple times because it was on its side... also I find on the xbox 360 it just looks much cooler on the side because the disks stand without falling out in the disk tray

For me personally, right now I only have my PS2 set up, and all my consoles are still packed as I haven't found a viable reason to have them out yet. But when I get everything settled I will have my X-Box 360 standing up(looks cooler), PS2 laying flat as I believe the PS2 looks more natural that way, Wii standing up for obvious reasons such as the stand it comes with, as well as my NES and SNES laying flat as well for obvious reasons

Standing: X-Box 360, Wii
Laying Flat: PS2, SNES, NES

And I soon hope to be adding a PS3 to that collection. Now the question is, find a BC PS3 or buy the 120GB slim, hmmmmmm.

We always put our consoles on their side like the Ps2 and Xbox. We put it on the side cuz we dont want it to fall down.

We have a home theatre, and we have a little area in the back of it where we hook up all our gaming consoles and DVD players and such. There is little room there so usually to save space, we stand up the consoles.

Just cuz I find this ironic, only recently my brother lay his xbox 360 on its side to protect it and the disks from falling and breaking. The ironic thing is it shortly after got the worst xbox, disease you may call it, yup, you guessed it, the Red Ring of Death...
and I think laying it on its side is the factor.

I forgot to add, sometimes I ask my ps3 out on a date and then don't show, effectively standing it up.

I'm standing my bro's 360 up, since I have no space, he does that too, when it's not in my room. Also, when I get my own Xbox, I'll clean my room a bit, so I'll lay it down.

I always tried standing them up but i didnt want to risk anything happening,so they all lay down ,except my wii of course because of the stand

The Wii stands because it comes with a stand and that's how it was set up. It's not mine anyways so I don't really have a say in how it's positioned.

My PS3 and PS2 both lay flat. I do not trust their gravity-defying skills. =P I have one of the first-gen PS2s and I just never thought it looked stable enough while standing. Besides which, I don't have that kind of vertical space to begin with. The PS3 is downstairs and has more than enough standing room but again, I don't want to risk it falling over. Not when cats and small children are common dangers.

I stand both my Xbox and PS2 upright. I'm careful enough not to man-handle my game system(s) and/or game(s). Never did me any wrong yet.

All my consoles have been put on their sides. I've never really trusted them standing up without the proper bases. Also, it's less likely the lens alignment will go off, as mentioned before.

They don't look right standing up... and besides, I can't stand them up in my "set up" - there be no space, and the way I've set the shelves up makes more sense for it it be on it's side.

As for ventilation... I'm never really on them long enough to allow them to overheat. Well, when a new games comes out, it's a different story (I turn into 24/7 gamer girl when I get into a good game), but even then... gotta sleep sometime, eh?

I used to stand my 360 up until my entertainment system shook or something and moved the damn, my disc that was inside was tore all to hell..The 360 put six giant rings on the disc and it would never play again, it pissed me off cause the game was COD 4 modern warfare one of favorite's...
