Square Enix Possibly Buying Out Eidos

Square Enix has made an agreement to potentially buy Eidos for $120 million (USD) if supported by 75% of shareholders. Currently it has at least half the required backing provided by Warner Bros. and Pioneer Investment Management Ltd. If Square Enix raise another 30% shares, it's highly likely that Eidos franchises will fall into the Square Enix branding, and as the deal is recommended to shareholders by Eidos, this may very well become a reality.

Wow...Hitman, Legacy of Kain, Timesplitters & Tomb Raider would be quite a big jump for the world's favorite little RPG publisher. Strange they were after Tecmo, home of some of gaming's most buxom babes with the Dead or Alive chicks and now with Eidos & arguably one of gamings' most well-known chests with Lara Croft...>_>

Yeah seems to seem so! But I think this could be a very smart and strategic move on SE's part. Hooking in some of Edios titles could possibly bring in some much needed changes to respice things up.

Square buying out Capcom? Haha, fat chance. Capcom is nearly recession proof. Their profits actually went up last year.

Also, about TimeSplitters 4. It, along with Battlefront 3, was already in development before Free Radical went under and was bought out by Crytech (of Crysis fame). Battlefront 3, last I heard, was given to Rebel, but I haven't seen anything yet to suggest that Crytech has any plans to continue on TimeSplitters 4. Eidos has rights to it, but if Crytech doesn't want any part in it, it'd be a different developer working on it.

Jin, I was joking. Playing on the monoply that SE has seeming tried to get their selves into. I realize that Capcom is one of the few untouchables right now. Would be like SE trying to buy up Blizzard at their peak. Speaking of which time to go see whats up with Diablo 3.

I think I'm mostly excited about possible cameos and crossovers that may be made available if a merger proceeds. And the injokes that may be less questionably legal so there may be an increase. I love stuff like that.

Granted, too much can ruin some games, but meh.

There's an official document on the Kotaku link in my first post. Eidos supports the deal and is encouraging it's shareholders to support the deal.

And apparently because of the news of the deal Eidos shares are going up in value a nice amount. Makes me wish I had some.

While Capcom certainly is farfetched...Hasn't their competition over at SNK been having some troubles...? How well has the new KoF been doing? Maybe it's time for Mai to join SE's chestacular ranks! lol

^Ha! Yeah as a huge SNK fan myself, I'd welcome that. They're a lot like Enix in the late 90s, to the effect of they're fairly strong in Japan but have a weak hold on the US market. Developing the GORGEOUS KoFXII has definitely been a financial strain. But man if SNK could develop special Square fighters for S-E, and/or some kind of crossover that would be awesome. Plus when they try to add English voice acting to KoF games, it would actually sound good.

As for the Eidos buy, I'm pretty much indifferent. Though interestingly enough Eidos were the ones who made the FF7 PC port. After a while when you tried to ask one company for tech support, they'd pretty much point to the other company saying "Go ask them", maybe they could actually re-release it for current Windows OSes.

I wonder what Crystal Dynamics thinks of this new proposal having recently buying out Core's Tomb Raider and teamed with Eidos putting a well deserved lift to it after Cores' effort with Angel of Darkness. Bringing out three titles. They may be pleased to team up with such an amazing company as Enix thats if there is going to be any future Tomb Raiders, but like some one said before as much of a Lara fan as i am if Lara even so much shows a erect nipple on a Final Fantasy title there will be trouble although i doubt it lol.

That would be quite interesting to see by the way.

In all reality I would like to see a revamp of the Legacy of Kain series. Possibly even a remake of the original.

But all in all this could proove to be a very wise choice for SE or just a stupid buy out if not used to its full potential. I am actually hopeing that if it does go through that it will put an end to Tomb Raider. The first few where fun, not its all about T&A.
