Gta Iv!

I played my Cousin's copy of it for Xbox 360 and It was okay. Half the time I couldn't understand what they were saying due to the accents! Graphics were amazing though, I'll give it that, but I still say it was way-overhyped.

mine was Kiki and Carmen and i must admit they are both crazy as hell! Karmen doesnt even know who you are half the time and the other half she wants you to buy her a condo! haha

Haha the two of them pissed me off to no end. Kiki was useful now and then, and I really didn't bother with Carmen because she was a pain in the ass. Can't stand that third person crap. Apparently, you can find another girl on craplist. I think it's something about a free spirit or a party girl. I tried to date her, but wound up doing a mission, not realizing I missed the date, and got a nasty email... I loved it.

I've only just started playing San Andreas (yer i'm a bit behind i know), but based on its excellent non-linear gameplay and fun missions, i am genuinely looking foward to getting my hands on GTA IV to see the increased graphics and how much Rockstar have improved the GTA franchise.

So you people that have played through GTA4, would you reccommend me to get this game, or Lost Odyssey? I like both series (or I guess genre for LO's sake), but I can only afford one at the moment. What are the pros and cons of each game?

i am not sure about lost od, but i've found GTA4 to be worth the money. I like it alot and my wife loves it.
Pros: new looks to liberty city
better cars
new missions
graphics rock
story so far is pretty good (for a gta)
lots of side missions/ date/ brutal killings.
more realistic then it predicessors (somewhat)
alot like the other GTA's

con
alot like the others
so far the missions have been pretty easy

So the Game Fly wizards have delivered to me GTA IV. My first impressions:

- Driving on the PS3 is ****ing awful. It's impossible to make a decent turn with the (as i think Yahtzee of Zero Puntuation called them) "Marshmallow-like shoulder buttons". Now, you can't fault GTA IV for that. But if you hit the brakes too hard, you fish tail and lose all control. I'm sorry, but isn't driving one of the biggest parts of GTA? Shouldn't it be fine tuned almost as well as a racing game? I guess not.

- Niko and Roman are ugly as hell. Yet ladies literally wet their pixelated panties at the mere site of them. I realize this is a video game, but this upsets me. This may be a slight Spoiler, but it's at the beginning of the game, so I'm not going to worry about it. So when you drive Michelle and Roman's girlfriend (can't remember her name for the life of me) home, Michelle is practically begging you to **** her. It's not like she even knows Niko has a great personality or something. His end of the conversation is basically "Yeah", and "Okay" in that sweet Eastern European accent. Yet she immediately wants to go out on a date with him. It seems like they want to develop relationships in the game so quickly that they make Michelle seem like a total slut just so that they can make sure that you understand "MICHELLE IS UR GIRLFRIEND". This is my point, so I don't rant any further: The game tries to divulge information to quickly. Within seconds of meeting Roman, we know exactly what he's about, who he is, why he sucks, and that he's a jerk. In my opinion, we'd get a better sense of characters and care more about them if we got a little bit of information at a time. At the point where I am now, I don't care if Roman lives or dies. In fact, I'd like to see him get a finger or two chopped off.

- Speaking of relationships. This game feels more like a Sims game to me than a GTA game. You spend so much time trying to either build or break relationships that missions become of less importance. I remember that on the first date with Michelle, the game literally yelled at me for missing something that I had to do with Roman, even though the date was first on the agenda. So I missed a potential mission, and money, for going in the order that I thought I was supposed to go in, just because I may have taken a little too long on the date. Okay. Whatever. This was never a problem in, let's say, Vice City. You just go on missions as they come up, and other missions rarely ever disappeared unless you did something wrong.

Another note on this topic. Television. So, after a little while playing the game, I decided to go back into my apartment to watch a little TV. Some Ricky Gervais (happy birthday to Ricky by the way, his birthday is June 25th) stand up was on. Before I knew it, I had wasted 30 minutes channel surfing. Why? I can't do that in real life? I do it all the time, except in real life, I don't wear pants. And yes, I know Yahtzee talked about this too, but it happened to me and I felt I needed to share it.

So I attribute all of this to be the direction GTA is going in. I assume they want to be a much more open-ended, Sims- style game, instead of the "Mission, mission, open-ended (maybe mini-games?), mission, mission" style that worked in the games before it. I assume most people love that, based on the scores I hear it getting.

Just a couple of other quick points:
- TOO MUCH TUTORIAL.
- Is a bowling mini-game really necessary?
- As much as I complain about the story telling, there have been some genuinely good points in the game's conversations, even one point where I laughed out loud.
- I am having fun with the game.

So these are my first impressions. Please don't rip me a new asshole for my thoughts. Who knows? I might end up falling in love with the game.

Yeah i do have to agree with the dating thing. it is kind of porly done, but about the handling comments, it took me a while to get the hang of the PS3's controler with this title. but after a few hours of playing and getting some better cars, i found that i liked the new system better and have more fun with the driving then in the previous GTAs.

Bought it Wednesday, beat the storyline missions tonight, save for the last one. Failed it 3 times on the final part, wish it would let you pick back up at certain parts on long missions like that when you failed.

I also never cheated, though I was capable of beating GTA3 w/o cheating. The only time I DID cheat was a car cheat, because running around finding a decent car was annoying me, and it cut down on my travel time immensely by spawning something fast, like a Comet.

Appparantly, the 2nd to last mission creates a different outcome in 2 ways, depending on which way you take it...

SPOILER!!:

If you kill Dimitri, you don't get the 250 grand and Peggorino shows up Roman's wedding trying to kill Niko but shoots Kate.

If you work with Dimitri, you make 250 grand but Dimitri sends a hitman after you at Roman's wedding, Niko takes care of him but he shoots and kills Roman. The last mission plays out the same, you either chase down Peggorino or you chase down both the Italian and Dimitri, but Dimitri kills the Italian guy once you find them.

Edit: Ugh, I went back to my save before the 2nd to final mission and took a different path and cannot beat the final mission to save my life. 5 attempts and

You should be able to skip the driving part via your cell phone.
Stratagy for those that havent figured it out yet.

SPOILER!!:

head due north after jumping out of the car, jump the wall
run around to the back side of the building, there is a latter.
If you fallow it up there is a hole in the roof just next to the door.
Wait for Jacobs text.
4 guys will appear shoot them down before jumping in.
walk around the corner and watch the cut scene
fallow the leader (no puns intended)
drop staight off the trash pile to the left side of the screen to the dock (you are there when the car pulls up)
jump on the bike and stay in the middle of the screen, when you see the ramp light up move to the left side and cut back in real hard.
when flying the helicopter diregaurd the fact you can shoot and just fly REALY high to avoid the missles, eventually you will be struck. Hold the chopper up til you reach the docks.
fallow and kill.'

thats the tactic i used and it worked just fine for me. I stumbled on the back entrance by accident. But the chopper part kicked my but way to many times!
