building a party wii
Making a shopping list, wot.
I wants to deck out a Wii for long nights of rowdy hurlyburly and shenanigans. But I also want to top it off with 'Cube games since my collection in that area is decidedly... RPG-y. For the ball to get rolling, here's the hardware list: - the Wii - two more Wiimotes - WiiPlay (to bring the total number of controllers up to 4) - 4 nunchuks - 4 classic controllers I reckons that ought to be all in that area. Anyone recommend getting those battery packs with the charging base? |

Those Wii remotes burn through AA batteries. I got the charge station and I have NOT been disappointed. Definitely a good addition to your accessory list, as it'll save you money on batteries in the long run. Sure, you could use regular rechargable batteries, but those have a short life span in the Wii remotes. I was getting about 6-8 hours from regular batteries and 4-6 from rechargable batteries -- the battery packs that come with the charge station get 16-20 hours per (complete) charge.
The charge station has two battery packs, and I doubt you'd need a second charge station -- Nyko sells additional battery packs as well. Need suggestions on games? I've got 12, and I've played another 10 on top of those, so I'm chock full of opinions and advice. |

Get that Super Monkey ball game. If you're partying, that game really FOSTERS unbridled stupidity. In other words a great multiplayer game. ANd wii sports too. That can make the most serious occasion right stupid. And you can get shells that the wiimotes fit in to make it a steering wheel or a sporting tool. Great for parties.
Hope this helps.

Make sure you only buy that many controllers and nunchucks if you absolutely need them, they are pretty expensive.
I've got two wiimotes and two nunchucks, and I find thats enough. If your inviting mates over you can still play each other on vs. and if theres 4 of you make sure atleast one of them owns a wii, cos most wii owners have two controllers. Mario strikers is a good game for parties and don't over look wiisport. I agree with Lococolt04 though, definitely buy a charge station.

I think for certain I'm going to get Wii Sports (comes with the system, doesn't it?), Rayman Raving Rabbids, that new Strikers game and I'm kinda hesitant about Big Brain Academy. As soon as GH comes out for the Wii I'll be all over that. I know for sure out of the 'Cube era I'm going to get Mario Kart Double Dash, SSBM, Super Mario Strikers and maybe a coupla the Mario Partys. I'm considering DDR Mario Mix, but I don't know just yet. Most of it is wishful thinking right now, but god's bodkin do I like to fantasize, eh. |

Mario Strikers Charged comes out at the end of this month, since you mentioned it. You also mentioned Mario Party... don't go overboard in purchasing them -- they're all the same. Pick up one of the four for the GC and then snag a copy of 8 on the Wii. It's a ton of fun if you have groups to play with.
Wario Ware is in the same vein; a TON of fun with groups of people, and most games only require one remote as it's passed around hot-potato style. You mentioned Rayman... seriously not as great as it looks. The game, while crazy and quirky, is a bit of a pain in the ass. It's good considering it's one of the early third-party titles, but it's also one I ended up not purchasing after playing it a few times (picking up Wario Ware instead). If you like racers, ExciteTruck is still probably the best game on the system, depending on your preferred play styles. Need for Speed Carbon was okay, but better on other consoles. Guitar Hero III is coming at the end of October. If you're a sports guy, Tiger Woods is awesome on the Wii. Madden is a lot of fun too -- very different from what you'll be used to, for certain (and 2008 comes out next month!). If you're more into the arcade-type sports stuff, stay away from the two Tony Hawk titles; they aren't as good as they could have been. A lot of genres are still struggling to find ways to make the unique controls work for them. On that note, SSX Blur is AMAZING. It has a ridiculously steep learning curve, but once you get a handle on the controls, it's just stellar. It revived my interest in the SSX series. If you're a fan of shooters... I apologize. Red Steel is horrible, Call of Duty 3 is too loose, and Far Cry is a far cry from being good. Bad pun, I know. Everyone is hoping that Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is the game that will FINALLY bring a good control scheme to the first-person genre on the Wii. Until the interface is good, the games will be tough to play. In third-person news, The Godfather is one of my favorite games on the system. Not a single person I have recommended it to has been disappointed -- and I'm in retail, so I make a lot of suggestions. Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition is also good for that same reason -- it's third-person, and it's absolutely fantastic. It's also $30 new! And of course, to round things out, Zelda is a must-have. |

Woot...Paper mario 64 is now available on the virtual console. Play it or else....
Games i have right now are Wii Sports, Wii Play, and Super Paper Mario. Wii sports is just awesome where Wii play was rather sucky...and super paper mario was fantastic. I do hope to get Dragonball Z Tenkaichi 2 if not i'll save for the 3rd coming out soon. But do get Zelda; although i prefered the gamecube version, and yes...Strikers Charged, Metroid Prime 3 corruption, Super Mario Galaxy are a must. BUT...for multiplayer mayhem...need i add that the recent announcement of Mario Kart Wii has made shit bricks? |

For party games.
Well, Wii Sports comes with the console and you can't go wrong with that. I would suggest also picking up Mario Party 8. You can't go wrong with it. I work at Eb Games and it's a very very popular choice. Even my Mum plays it. Other titles I could suggest are Wario Ware: Smooth Moves and Rayman Raving Rabbids. They are both loads of fun to play when you have company. You'll get a good laugh out of them. Everyone else is suggesting Mario Strikers Charged. I am yet to play it. But it has been suggested to me. It seems like a good game and the characters seem to have a lot of 'quirks'. So even though I can't acutally recomend this game to you myself. I can tell you I hear a lot of positive feedback about it ![]() Finally, if your after 'Cube games as well. You can't go wrong with Super Smash Bros. Melee. This game kicks ass. I have so much fun playing it over and over again and collecting every trophy .I would be hesitent on going overboard and buying every other Mario Party for the 'Cube. You should buy Mario Party 8 for the Wii and maybe if you really wanted to. Another one or two for the Gamecube. Just don't over kill. The last Gamecube game I am gunna reccomend to you is Mario Double Dash. This reccomendation might be a bit biased on my part but I love any Mario racing game . Mario Kart DS anyone?I deffinately think it is a good idea to go with the Charging stands. They are resonably priced and well worth the money that you would be otherwise spending in batteries. For more fun why don't you pick up one of those Wii Packs that have the golf club, tennis raquet, steering wheel and other attachments to make the game more realistic for you. Other then that I think your set. Sorry for all the advice, I just got home from work, soo my brain is still in work mode |
