Enchanted Arms:http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=952057

This game was very interesting, easy to get into and play, and the battle system differentiated a bit from the norm, and did it quite well.

Oblivion:http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=200123

Need I say more?

PS2:

Ive Heard Grandia II and Grandia III were really good games, never played 'em, but a friend had them.

III:http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=938425

IV:http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=939021

Dragon Quest VIII Good stuff, I rented it and it was pretty fun, I like the art style of the game too.

DG:VIII:http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=939257

Rogue Galaxy: I haven't played it, but I've been reading on it on gamespot and such, People say it's pretty good.

The Grandia series is a good choice, II and III were great but stay away from Grandia Extream that was just bad. Arc the Lad was alright aswell but might be hard to find, just go to gamestop and look in the $9.99 bins. Valkyrie Profile 2 is also a decent game to try out. Finally I sugest Radiata Stories, another good game from Square-Enix.

Are you looking for a standard RPG? If your not, well, buy Champions of Norrath or Champions: Return to Arms, brilliant games. Both on PS2, however, they may not sell them any more as they are 3-4 years old.

I'd recommend the "Tales" series, Tales of the Abyss in particular.
Yeah, the Star Ocean series are good, too.

Just to say about Suikoden(not only to you but to the person who made the thread), 4 sucked.. it lacked too much depth in everything. however, 1, 2(1 and 2 are hard to find.. but they're coming out with them for PSP for $50) 3, and 5 were good. 5 is the newest one, and I really liked it. I recommend 5 to you more than anything.

I can't believe no one has dropped the almighty X bomb yet o_o.

I would highly recommend the Xenosaga series to you. The first game is long, fun, and has an amazing storyline. The second game's story is kind of lacking, but the gameplay is highly innovative. The third game is easily the best in the series, and the story provides closure as well as openings for sequels. Truly a great trilogy.

Also, speaking of the Xeno universe, if you can find it, get your hands on a copy of Xenogears. It's quite possibly the greatest RPG I've ever played. The only thing is you have to have a lot of patience, as the story takes a while to really unfold.

As for non-Xeno fare, I would suggest the following, by console/handheld:

PS

Parasite Eve
Legend of Dragoon
Chrono Cross
Star Ocean: The Second Story
Brave Fencer Musashi
Shadow Tower

PS2

La Pucelle Tactics
Megaman X: Command Mission
Magna Carta
Tales of the Abyss

Xbox

Shenmue II
Morrowind
Sudeki
Fable

PSP

Metal Gear AC!D 1 & 2
Ys: The Ark of Napishtim

GBA

Any Castlevania game for the GBA
Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga

Hope that helps .

I hope I can still help and you haven't gotten a game already... These will just be for the PS2 because I yet to really find many good rpgs for the gamecube or Xbox.

First I would like to suggest Xenosaga like Malahk Musashi mentioned. These were really great games and are some of my favorite. One is really good and introduces your to the story and characters and such. Two really was probably the worst in the series, but it still was ok and added more to the story. Three was the best of the series and finished of the trilogy really well.

Also like Fantasy X mentioned I would recommend the .hack games. I have only played the first four (Infection, Mutation, Outbreak, and Quarantine) so far, but I plan to get the newer ones soon. I really loved these games. I thought that the story was very good and I liked the characters and the general layout of the game. Although these games are really good, they may be hard to find . I know from experience because I looked for them before I got them and they were hard to find new. If you are looking for them used though you should be able to find them. If the newer games are as good as the previous ones then they would also be great buys. Even though these games are really good you may want to watch out because they can be very short compared to other rpgs.

Finally I would recommend Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2. You have probably heard all about these games, but I still think they are very good. They have some good characters (especially the Final Fantasy ones) and are really fun to play.

Also everyone else has mentioned some pretty good rpgs. This looks like it could be a hard choice.

For a turnbased RPG i would say go with Xenosaga, um, if you want something a bit unconventional, i would say Diablo 2. Its for PC, and its a great game. A real classic. I have been playing it for years. Definetly worth looking into.
