Controllers
The question, which is the best controller you have ever used in video game history and which would be the worst.
Which controllers fits so perfectly in your hands that you wish you could use it for all consoles? Have you held a controller that is even that dammed good? Which control just makes you want to take it out back, tie it to the fence and shoot it....over and over and over again. My favourite control I have ever used would without no doubt be the ps2 controller. That dualshock is relatively light and has the perfect button setup.

I agree with the Dualshock.
The Wavebird/normal GC controller was comfortable for my hands, too, along with the small (now standard) X-Box controller, but Dualshock is probably my controller of choice. Though I still wonder what it would have been like if the "batarang" prototype PS3 controller was used. I was kind of hoping that they'd go with it. |

I agree with Kou there. The Playstation 2 has an awesome controller, it's very light in weight and is just right. The PS3 controller is probably very similar except it's wireless which would be pretty sweet as well. I remember the coloured PS1 controllers were rather heavy compared to the normal gray ones.
It definitely beats the controller for the Atari, that was such a horrible thing to use. It was just a rectangle and it was just difficult for me to play with. The Sega Mega Drive controller I had was alright but it was an awkward shape. Playstation controllers all the way. ^_^

Ayy....i'm going to disagree with you all...
For me the Gamecube controller was golden. Not only were the buttons strategically placed allowing the elite players to master and dominate, but the grip feeling one has is so satisfying. The clutch feeling allowed me to easily hold it with one hand. I especially liked how the A button was huge and the B button was a lot smaller, it kind of gives an importance to A but B in the same way. X and Y are decent...i've no complaints, the analog is far superior to that of the PS in my opinion seeing as how it has a texture giving a better grip. The R and L were also perfectly shaped for one's finger as opposed to the R1, R2, L1, L2 of the PS. The Z however makes everythig so cool...its so solid and i just love the feeling when i press it..haha OH! and i forgot to mention that the Wavebird kicks ass. The worst controller for me would be tht of the Xbox, i haven't played with it as much as that of the PS and GCN which makes it far less favoured, but moving with two analogs is just a pain in the ass..and i can't stand it... |

my favorite controller is the wii remote. it was such a genious idea, it even has attachments which even makes it better. the wii remote is fun to swing around and you can imagine a whole bunch of things you can do with it. Its fun to swing around and stuff with it even when you're not playing a game (in other words perfect imagination tool). it does have one flaw though if you don't have the sensor bar in a good enough place, the communication with the sensor bar and the wii-mote will go haywire.

For shooters, I always really liked the N64 controller, so I figure it deserves a shout out before I get into the bulk of the post. A lot of people hate that controller, but I can't understand why. /shrug
BEST CONTROLLER(S): It's hard for me to pick just one... so here are two. The XB360 controller is just GORGEOUS. My only complaint with that controller is that the d-pad on most of them is a little screwy; fortunately, most games don't use it, and I tend to use the analog sticks when I'm playing DOA4 anyway. It's the perfect weight, an excellent size, and has a really pleasant rumble. The SNES controller comes in a very close second. I got SO MANY BLISTERS from that thing back in the day. Its arcade-style button layout became the standard for controllers everywhere. Shoulder buttons, diagonally-oriented face buttons... it was a pioneer. It was also great for fighters, and perfect for Uniracers. (On the note of fighters, the Genesis controller was equally impressive.) The worst? The PS3 controller. It weighs three ounces and has no rumble. I HATE LIGHT CONTROLLERS. I don't like playing a game without knowing I've got a controller in my hands. The lack of rumble, I could deal with. The lack of weight? No.

I really cannot stand the 360 controller, but I'm forced to use it since that is pretty much all the company uses. Its too heavy and too large. Then on top of that they have the XBox button in the middle of the controller in between the back and start buttons making it the worst design decide possible. When you go to pause the game and press the XBox button instead. In multiplayer games its even more annoying when it holds you up and gets you killed. I also don't like the triggers, far too large. I don't think it was really necessary to have a trigger button since they are only really useful for racing games.
The best controller in the Dualshock, I enjoyed Nintendo's controllers, but they do not use soft rubber on their sticks so extended gameplay makes your thumb sore. I know playing Zelda all night I'd want to just stop because my thumb hurt too much. And then it was sore for the next day. Its a heavy draw back. The Dualshock is perfect with the soft rubber and size. It fits in my hands without trouble and does not feel like I'm holding 20 lbs. I want to play a game not feel my controller. It why the PS3 controller is really nice, I don't have to feel it holding me down. Plus Sony did the smart thing and moved the PS button down under the Start and Select button rather then putting it in the between where you are more likely to accidentally press it. I'm not fond of the triggers they put on it, but they are not obnoxious like the 360 controller. And the sticks are lined up correctly not all weird and at different positions. We get into big debates at work about the best controller. So many of them like the 360 controller for some reason. I'll never understand them. Its pretty much the worst controller out there for current consoles. The old XBox controller for the first one was probably the worst ever made and even XBox owners agree on that one. It was massive and only a small percentage of the population could use it comfortably. Which is why the Dualshock is good, its perfect for anyone, even children can use it and not have trouble holding it.

The best controller I ever use is the PlayStation/PlayStation 2 controller, it fits so well in my hand that it seems to be part of me. The worst controller ever is the Sega Genesis controller, it's too big and wide and you have to stratch your fingers to push the buttons, and it hurts your hands at times. Heres my list of controllers I've ever used from great to awful.
Best -----> PlayStation/PlayStation 2 controller Super Nintendo controller Nintendo controller X-Box controller Worst ----> Sega Geniesis controller

I personally like the ps2 controller because it had analog controls as well as an easy to switch to d-pad. The only downside is they were never wireless unless you could actually find a wireless one. I couldn't.

My favourite controllers were easily the Guitar Hero Wireless controllers both official and otherwise. They were fun.
Then there's the Donkey Konga bongos. They were also mad fun. Oh and the Street Fighter 15th anniversary PS2 controllers sort of like megadrive controllers. They're the best for most fighting games IMO. Highly accurate too. Almost cheating. And my gamecube controller... I hope to one day see an adaptoid version so I can use it with anything I can play on PC. Like the n64 ones... ![]()
