If Square-Enix and Nintendo become friends!

So Sony isn't really pwning Nintendo at the moment in the war of the consols... My question that I want this thread to explore, is the possibility that Sony gets it's ass kicked out of the Consol race will Wii pick up the Square-Enix franchises from the defeated Sony?

Will we see FF, DQ and KH characters mixed in with Nintendo favorites? Will they be in future installments of the Super Smash Bros. Franchise?

Is this too hypothetical for your liking?

id really like to see more final frantasy games on nintendo but theres that teeny weeny chance that something might go wrong.
They might stop making final fantasy.......they might start making little kiddy games.......that would mean time would stop and the world will meet its end!!!!! OMG!

I wouldn't be for this. I believe that even though Nintendo has dominated overall, it s largely due to Sony's presence. By this i mean that because of the competition that Sony brought, both parties had to conclude agreements with the best game makers. Thus Sony hit the jackpot with Square acquiring classics such as FF7, FF8, FFX and more. Yet Nintendo kepy focusing on system common franchises such as the very large Mario and Zelda.

As for your comment on Nintendo picking up Square Enix, i think you meant acquirng exclusivity. Thus only nintendo would have their games. Well there are two problems...

1) Sony would not relinquish it's money making game producers quite so easily unless they attain a bankrupt state, which is a farfetched idea.

2) Nintendo already has a good deal with Square, thus having:
FF games on the GBA such as FF4-A, FF3-A, FFT-A and more.
FF classics on the snes and nes such as FF, FF4, FF6 and more.
FF games on GCN such as FF Chronicles....
FF future releases on Wii.

So that being said, i don't think Sony will currently relinquish Square related deals to nintendo and practically kiss Miyamoto's feet. If however they did, it would in fact cause a probability of having FF7-FFXII released anew on Nintendo consoles and future consoles on Nintendo consoles; which is exclusivity.

Now, back to my denial of merging Nintendo and square completely, if Nintendo owned all, like they did in the Snes era to mid N64 Era, they would simply sit on their thrones and throw feces at each other, until the eventuality of having a new sony come and boot them out. Which would mean a whole new war of consoles. Or, Microsoft would total them taking total control with their Xbox 1080 or whatever they are planning.

Overall,

Competition = Good
==> Because comptition will force the release of great games, and allow for third party game productions.

No Competition = Bad
==> Because crappier games will be released despite having major titles, thus deleting third party game productions from the market.

It's not having to do with what will likely happen...that's why it's hypothetical >.<!

But I do agree with your conclusion about competition being the ideal situation for third party game companies.
