Hey, i was looking through my snes cartridges, and noticed one of my favourite snes gmes laying there. Indeed Super Mario RPG was one of my main games. However, what surprised me the most, is that Square was indeed the game's maker. What surprised me is that there were no sequels or other games like this. They said that paper mario was a sequel, but i mean, it was made from intelligent systems and doesn't relate whatsoever.
So i'm sure i'm not the only one who liked this game, so should Square release a true sequel/other game like this?

I'd love a sequal as the original captivated me. It had mario and it was an RPG! When I started playing for the first time, I had many feelings along the lines of WTF??!!, but after getting used to a platformer hero in an RPG I saw it for what it was, a great game. And in next gen graphics?
![]() It was funny too.

Well actually a LOT of the people who worked on the game started their own little company and made Mario + Luigi, which is quite fun, although it's simply not as much of a standout classic as Mario RPG.
Also the music is done by Yoko Shimomura, who also does Kingdom Hearts. I swear I watch that one scene when you talk to YuRiPa, and it sound nearly identical to one of the themes from Mario RPG. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyIybdoCGU0 Oh yeah, and lets not forget how awesome Culex is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irSJEnzZ-yM I haven't played it for years now, I tried playing it via emulation, but the graphics always seemed glitchy and flickered a lot, and just didn't seem right, so now I'm just waiting for the VC release. |

You know, it's funny, I was talking with one of my employees at work a couple days ago about how awesome it would be to see a VC release of SMRPG and a TRUE sequel (or not necessarily sequel, but a second SMRPG game in the same style as the first) to the game.
Here's the way we see it. A LOT of the "new" gamers don't have any SNES experience, and therefore missed out on one of the most fun RPGs ever made. (Fun is not equivalent to "best," and there's no denying that SMRPG was fun.) We think that with a VC release, they could also develop a whole new title for the Wii that would really generate a lot of buzz -- by reintroducing the original to those who never saw it, it could create a whole new fanbase for the title, making sales of a second title even higher. ...yes, Taylor and I always discuss the business aspect of gaming. It's just what we do. ![]()

I truly love Mario RPG. It's easily one of my most favorite games of all time. That or Earthbound was my first rpg and I have a soft spot for both of those games. In reality though this game is much better and more fun anyway. I mean to break it down this game has the Axem Rangers who are the best Power Rangers rip offs ever, then you can actually play as Bowser, you get Geno who's my favorite character of the game, and you fight a sad sea captain. How can you lose by playing this game?
In the end I think they won't make another game like his. Though there is a new Paper Mario out this one especially is totally differant than the others and if they keep it this way then there's gonna be no hope for having a game like it. Everything about the game is wonderful and should be held in high regard, but I guess only time will tell if we'll see another game like it or not. |

Like I said the MArio and Luigi games are the closest things we'll get to sequels. Also Geno was one of the top requested characters for SSB Brawl next to Megaman. And considering Square-Enix let him be used in M+L, no reason not to see it as a possiblity. |

Yeah, this was my first RPG and I did not even know what a RPG was back then. It was Mario and it was awesome. I loved playing the game. I did not even realize for the longest time that itw as a RPG or the concept of what a RPG was. (Yeah, I was pretty sheltered, gaming in general as well as RPGs)
Anyway, the funnest thing was being Bowser and picking up Mario and throwing him. It is so very Bowser and just made the game that much better. What other RPG lets you actually use the main character himself as a projectile weapon? You can't beat that. And definitely, Geno was a favorite of mine. I would always have Mario, Bowser and Geno in my party. They seemed a little a random, since they did not belong to the Mario universe, but having fresh characters in the game was nice. I did not like Mallow so much, but that is probably because his abilities did not seem that good and I just stuck with Geno instead. The Princess was playable too, wasn't she? I know you rescue her half way through the game. I think I ended up switching her out for Geno after a while. If there was a sequel or some follow up that was like the original I would pick it up so fast. I'd get a Wii even sooner than I planned if they had that. I keep hoping for Geno in Brawl, I would play him without question.

As for Brawl, i hd no clu Geno was one of the candidates for characters. Need i also suggest the likes of mallow, frogfucious and Booster? Booster was my favourite character...mainly for being a doofus but also for his passion for cakes . I remember the wedding ceremony was way too hilarious. Finally, its too bad there will most likely not be a sequel. That being a real one of course. I guess all one can hope for is a brawl reappearance.
