Mario or Sonic?

Eventhough both of them are great, I will pick Sonic. I never were a big Mario fan, while I was a Sonic fan. That doesn't mean that I don't like Mario, though.

I always liked Sony more, because it was one of my first games. When I was younger I didn't have a single Nintendo console
I have Soinc games for all of my consoles, nowadays. I also bought Sonic Mega Collection for Playstation 2 so that I was able to play all those Sonic games that I missed because I was too young. Furthermore, eventhough Mario characters are great, I prefer the ones appearring in Sonic more. Knuckles is one of my favourite characters ever. There are other great characters, too, like Shadow, Espio, Amy and Sonic himslef. Not that there aren't great characters at Marion, too. If I ever sayd that, I would lie.

I definately have to give it up for my man, Mario.

Sonic was sweet when it came out, there's no denying it. When I got my Genesis and saw Sonic for the first time I was floored. But neither Sonic 1 or 2 had anywhere near the gameplay depth that Super Mario World had. All 3 buttons on the Genesis controller provided the same function- jump. Sure, in Sonic 2 you could hold down to do the spinny move, but that's where the controls ended. In Mario, there was always some new thing you could do while in Sonic you could jump on robots or spin around on the ground.

Also Sonic got old quick IMO. The first 2 were awesome titles, deserving a place in gaming history. From then on, it was very stale. The first 3-D iteration(Sonic Adventure) is the best 3-D version of Sonic, but it's also a huge piece of crap. I remember how hyped I was to buy my Dreamcast, I couldn't get Sonic in fast enough, and then I started playing. I beat it, blinked a few times, and decided that I would have better spent my time watching the clouds move.

The Sonic franchise hasn't had a good title out since Sonic and Knuckles, while Mario atleast had a good 3-D version of its game on the Nintendo 64.

I can't decide which I like more. After all they both are legendary characters and they both have their own skills. Sonic can run like a lighting and Mario can jump high and stuff. Of course both of them has nice other characters behind.

But I really can't decide...

MARIO-mario is one of the first characters of all time he is pretty cool...
SONIC- sonic is a super fast cool hedge hog i really think that he is really supa cool........................i think that he is really cool not just because of his power but because he works with his teem alot better that mario

Maybe 10 or so years ago I'd have considered Sonic, but not anymore Sonic's success has slowly been slipping downhill (well pretty quickly really), whereas Mario games has never waned in popularity, or just general brilliance.
Sega needs to either get it's ideas together for the next sonic game or let the little blue dude rest in peace.
Plus blue hedgehog vs. fat italian plumber riding a dinosaur, we know who'd win in real life. ;p

I think that I like Sonic better. Mario has some good games, but I like Sonic games more. Sonic was one of the first games I ever played. It has been a favorite of mine for years. I never really played that many Mario games. I think that Sonic is just better overall.

This was a harder one for me as I love both sets of games. And I also reckon both mascot series' have had some recentish stinkers. OMG Super Mario Sunshine WTF Kebab???!!!
And half the 3D sonic games too. That said I loved Sonic Adventure DX.

But even though I play them both and tend to like the average Sonic game better than the average Mario game, I still find myself playing a bit more mario then sonic. Especially due to the Mario RPG-esque games and the Mario Kart Series.
When Bioware's sonic RPG is released I may change my mind, but yeah, for now Mario.

Sonic gets my props hands down. Sonic Adventure was my first set of games when I first got my Sega Genesis years ago. I got Sonic Adventure 01 from my uncle way back in the early 90's and liked Sonic ever since. When the Collection came out I think it was last year or 2005 I was in awe lol. Yup Sonic all the way.

I don't know how this is even a question. And how Sonic is winning? I guess if I was asked this question back in the early 90's it might have been tough but now? I mean is Sonic even still around? And if he is around doesn't Mario (and his company) own him? Sonic did pretty well in the 1990's but lets look at a list of super mario games compared to Sonic games.

Lets look at the lists following my post. What has Sonic done since the 1990's? I mean there are games listed but which ones were good? However Super Mario has been in a ton of good games from his start in Donkey Kong to the Paper Mario game that just came out for the Wii.

Also let me point out that Sonic pretty much is always trying to be Super Mario. Every step of the way Mario has been innovative and unique while Sonic takes that innovation and adds a little something (usually just makes it a bit faster) and sales their games.

Also the Mario franchise was able to almost single handedly revived the gaming industry, while being the longest lasting successful franchise, having been around since the age of the arcade. As well as the first franchise to include a story line and the “first with a fully humanoid character.”

Also to a greater extent than any other game franchise available Super Mario has become a pop-culture icon. A 1993 study found that Nintendo’s mascot Super Mario was better recognized than Mickey Mouse.

In 2006 Forbes magazine named Mario the most powerful figure in the video game business, stating that “over the past 25 years Mario-themed games have sold more than 185 million copies world-wide.”

The Super Mario franchise holds seven of the top 20 spots for the most units sold.

The Mario franchise holds the Guniess book of world records for the title of the best selling video games, stating that “The Nintendo game Super Mario Brothers has sold a total of 40.23 million copies worldwide. The 26 [major] games featuring Mario, the character who first appeared in the arcade game Donkey Kong in 1982, have sold more than 152 million copies in total since 1983. More than 40% of US households own a Nintendo game system.” Super Mario franchise games also appear on more "greatest game lists" than any other game.

Like I said earlier I don't even know how this question takes any thought. It is pretty much a scientific fact that Mario is better. I mean I like the early Sonic Games too but there is just no contest when you look at the facts.
