RPG Fighting game

For a long time i've dreamed of Square releasing a killer fighting game so we can finally pit our favorite characters against one another. Of course there was Ehrgeiz for the PS..i'm talking something along those lines but on a much larger scale. I want A LOT of characters from Final Fantasy series, Chrono series, all other square games, a deep fighting engine, and loads of character specific levels. You could either do typical 1 on 1 fighting, or a 4 player free for all or team battle (like Super Smash or Powerstone 2)

Personally I'd like to see a team battle between Serge and Glenn from Chrono Cross vs. Crono and Frog from Chrono Trigger. That would be quite the battle, i guess it would depend on if Glenn had one Einlanzer or both.

Any battles other people would like to see?

I honestly don't think it would work. Ehrgeiz was an excellent game, but it felt kind of dry when it came to the FF7 cameos. If they tried to throw Crono or other anime-styled characters into the mix, I just don't think it would pan out well. I mean, take the Crapcom vs. EVERYTHING franchises. They're novel for about 20 minutes, then they fall flat until the next one comes out... then it maintains the same novel quality for even less time. Square's already on the decline, so a mash-up game would do them no good.

Thanks for the correction on Ehrgeiz, i always get those two E games mixed up. Einhander is of course the top down space shooter though.

Yeah i definitely see where you are coming from. Though it is a very unrealistic idea I think it COULD be done. They would definitely have to do it right though.

I think Dreamfactory if given enough time could make a quality game. They have a good amount of fighting games under their belt:Tobal, Tobal 2 (greaaat game), and Ehrgeiz of course. I haven't played the Bouncer though..so i can't comment on it.

In the end though..it is more of a less a dream, something that I doubt Square will ever do.

The Bouncer was quite excellent, if not horrendously short. DreamFactory does put out some very good games, but I don't think they could do a Square mash-up. I do agree, however, that it would be a novel idea... perhaps as a mini-game in a larger game, but not as a standalone title.

I played Ehrgeiz I think on the PS1 I believe when I rented it at the videostore I go to. Although it wasn't bad I though the fighting could've been better though.

Yea that would be a good idea to have it as some kind of mini game..kind of like Star Ocean's unlockable fighting mode or something? Definitely something to think about..
