Breath of Fire
anyone care to comment on the Breath of Fire series? I own 1-4 though I've only beaten 1 and 2, i kinda lost interest in both 3 and 4. Plus i have no idea where i am in the game so it's hard to pick them back up. I feel like this is one of those great old school series that didnt really reinvent itself enough. One thing I really liked in 2 was the idea of creating your own town by recruiting shop owners, people etc. Something a lot of rpgs to follow did..

In my oppinion BoF 4 was the best. I played half way through 1 and 2 and a little bit of 3. They were all okay. BoF 5(dragon quarter) is a very origial game but it's also very difficult. I don't know exactly what made BoF my favourite but I do remember it being a great game. I suggest you play through 4 and at least give 5 a try to see if you like it.

Yea i should have noted that Dragon Quarter was the first really original title in the series, i want to try it sometime. I'm definitely hoping to pickup and beat 3 and 4 sometime though..i almost feel like i'm gonna have to start both over though cause i'm so lost on what to do.

I've played all 5 to date, the only one I have not finished however is Dragon Quarter. I just couldn't get into it. I didn't like the story or the fighting style much.
My personal favorite is the very first one one the SNES.

I did love 1..it was one of the original RPGs i played on my SNES. Something about 2 made me like it more. I enjoyed the variety of characters in the sequel for one, i liked how each one would allow you to use their different abilities to do things you previously couldn't. And the storyline seemed a little better..or atleast it was presented better i thought. Plus that whole "community" thing building your town i thought was a really innovative feature.
I'm gonna have to finish 3 and 4 to get a final verdict on those two. I'm pretty far into both (especially 3). One thing I liked about 3 is later in the game when you are introduced to the "mentors" or "trainers." Basically how each characte has a different trainer and they level up according to what those trainers specialize in. It's fun trying to find them all. I can't figure out what one i have does though..for it says ??? for everything. Don't know what he specializes in..

I played 2-4 and I loved them all. But 3 was my favorite for some reason... I dunno, I just loved that game and the feel of it. I want to pick up the other two sometime also but 5 just never really seemed to grab me while reading about it. I'll give it a shot someday.

I've played BOF4 and I loved it. The entire game was so cool, except the Golden Plains (That huge open field where you find Clay's Mother) I hated doing that, it took me ages. That game is a huge success in mey eyes in RPG history.
I played Dragon Quarter, I hated every minute of it. Despite the graphics the main thing I hated about it was the battle system. YOU LOSE AP WHEN YOU MOVE!!!"££5342222111 =] |

My favreit one is 1 I like the idea of turning into a bird and flying around at the end and the music town. The other reason I like it is its the only game I have played that you can go under water and turn into a fish. I have the other one but I did not play them much.

Synesta from BOF4 has like the coolest music, I've ever heard..that is Irish Folk influenced. You should check it out, and that game itself if you haven't already played it. =]

This is perhaps one of my favorite RPG series of all time, mainly because it has dragons, and you control em o.O! as a chracter O.o!
Anyways, It would probably haveta be more than that, because then my post would be pointless. My favorite game out of the series was BoF 3, that was just a plain fun game, it kinda slowed down near the end, but I still loved its look, and feel, and the Gene System. Now, to go to another game in the series, BoF 5, Dragon Quarter... This is probably my least favorite game of the series, it was so hard that it bored me because

*First of all i would have to say that this game is one of the most kick ass RPG's ever!ive played breath of fire I, II, III and IV but i only own II to IV ive beaten all of them but i still itch to play it.if my playstation or pc havent busted i wouldve replay the adventure again!
*well i played breath of fire and it was awesome, the most fun factor about it is you have unique allies with you,and each have their special abilities that are handy in some situations,so you should choose the suitable partner for a mission!well ive noticed that most of the monsters in one are reanimated in most of the new series.which is wonderful because i love monsters and their memory from the past games are enjoyable. *my favorite series is breath of fire III,the 2d combined with3d graphics really made the game fun to play.the animated battles are really inviting and combat system is cool.and i mostly love about this game is the story line!the race of dragons against the world!superb!i really like it when the game starts ryu as a kid and matures into a complete fighter later in the game!progress and consistancy is one of the best qualities an rpg game should posses!the game is an absolute mind blower! *What i dislike about it is the master system you need to incease certain stats.its the breath of fire trade mark,i know, but it really takes the fun out of gaming.however learning skills from different masters is a plus!i enjoy acquiring strong techines and using them to defeat enemies or do release special attacks and combinations! * i absolutely enjoy the fishing game!it relieves the stress and tension of battle.its fun capturing different kinds of fish that we only get to see dead in the market.each fish has uniqe traits that mnake them a worthy adversary to poach!and i cant believ you could lure in a whale!hehehe only in breath of fire i guess! *And finally one thing i love about the game is their endings, they may not have cinematic movies but they sure give a damn good ending for each series!i especially love the ending of breath of fire II where you choose to seal the cave but after 2000 years evil grew stronger and conquered the entire world!haha sereves you heroes right to underestimate evil! *well thats about it i guess,i just love the game as much as i love Final Fantasy! ***HALLER BACK!!!*** |
