Favorite Rpg Battle System
What is your favorite battle system from any RPG game? Mine is KH. You could move jump and attack and glide and use magic easily. Second would be StarOcean til the end of time. or all of them, i have only played til the end of time. Still you could move freely which seems to make it more fun. Taking turns isnt exactly my type.

My favorite battle system is no doubt on Baldurs Gate 2, it's a real-time system but you can set the game too pause in the menu to make it a turn-based game.
That is not all you can pause the game with space bar or the button of choise and issue commands, also you can make the game pause automatically when enemy is spotted, damage is taken etc etc etc... Many possibilities. Overall a great battle system and a great game, in my opinion the best RPG I have ever played and one of the reasons is the battle system.

err i like Fable's or Oblivion's battle system. Nice easy controls, and you get plenty of control of your character like strafing, dodging, using bows etc. You can use so many types of combat in succession and its really cool

Fable's combat system was ****ing weak. Block, block, attack, block block, attack, make some distance, destroy them with the legendary bow. Fable as a whole was ****ing weak. Absolutly nothing extradordinary about that game. Nothing. |

I really liked the battle system to kingdom hearts as well, but the game was a bit too cheesy and I am terrible with combos and stuff. I also liked Baldurs Gate but it was the Ps2 version I played, fun but too short of a game and the view kind of annoyed me. Out of the FF games though I would say it is cross between FFX and FFV: FFV had a job system which I really like and spent hours playing with but cause of the age of the game it kind of lacked combinations you could do with it. FFX on the otherhand wasn't so much of a great system, but there was lots you could do with it, the actual battles went through real smoothly and I found it useful you could see whos attacking when. I liked the bit at the Arena during the end but it got really boring trying to get your HP as high as you can, and I gave up at about 70,000.

I liked Chrono Trigger. It was simple, nothing new and still made the battle play fun.
I also like FFVII. Mainly for the materia system. I could easily choose which characters had which abilities, and which materia would support which weapons/armor. |

I like the battle system for Final Fantasy V because of the different jobs you can choose. Final Fantasy X's was pretty good as well because it has a list at the side telling you who is next to attack. It comes in handy at times. Kingdom Heart's battle system was fun because you get to run around and fight. Final Fantasy X-2 was also cool because it was challenging. You had to think quick because the enemy would strike randomly. Final Fantasy VIII is good because it's in wait mode, the enemy doesn't attack until you attack it. You have plenty of time to think of strategies. All the FF games have unique battle systems.

Fable does have its downsides, like the fact that you must go back to the guild to level up, and the fact that there isn't much variety in the skills you can learn, as well as any non-combat skills (except bartering). I still believe the good-points outway the bad ones. Last edited by Pie Man 360; 04-23-2006 at 07:37 AM. |

Well I like the battle system for KOTOR. It was easy to use and I liked how in a way you could strategize what you would do. Plus I just think it was fun with how they set up where to use the items and such, for me I think it was a solid battle system.

I'd hate to burst your bubble, but I beat Fable. Thank you very much. ![]() Original? Yeah, because they TOTALLY were the first ones to come up with good/bad "sides" and consequenes to your actions. KOTOR did it first, thanks. Battle system? It's your usual free range fighting system. Sorry, I have the tactical sense to block, but not a single monster in the game presented a challenge BECAUSE of the battle system. I blocked, I attacked, I blocked. Repeat until dead, take 0 damage. Oh so hard. Just for shits and grins I'd go berserk on the people in the last town, that cape town, whatever teh **** it was, and then go berserk on gaurds. Because of doing that for countless hours on end I have every skill maxed, then I killed my sister after effortlessly defeating the final boss due to the brilliant tactics the game forces you to use. Roll, roll, shoot your legendary uber bow, the most powerful weapon in the game! roll, roll, shoot again! Repeat until dead! ZOMFG HARD! *brain explodes* Fable sucked, get over it. I repeat, there was nothing fantastic, original, magical, or even exciting about the game. The storyline was utter trash, too. "Really deep storyline." Where did the storyline get deep? Town gets attacked. Oh snaps! ****, I'm the only survivor. *pass out* WOOO! HERO SCHOOL! (Hercules, anyone?) OH SHIT I'm a teenager! OH SHIT MY SISTER IS ALIVE! WHAT A TWIST! OH SHIT SO IS MY MOMMY! OH SHIT IT'S THE GUY WHO BURNED MY TOWN! OH SHIT I KILLED HIM! OH SHIT.... the end. Nothing deep about that, and that's the entire storyline in a nutshell. Oh, wait, I skipped the part where you do that whole tournament battle royale thing and have the option of killing or not killing that annoying bitch you went to hero school with. I totally destroyed her for the cash. THAT WAS A UBER DEEP TWIST, TOO! *gasp* You want a better free range fighting system? Go ****ing play Devil May Cry on ****ing hard mode.

I'd have to say Mario..... with the jumping..... and the.... flowering...... and the racoon tailing..... and the caping..... and the...... frog..... ing
Actually I'll go with th Tales series. I havnt played TO Destiny but judging from its predecessor and successor I assum its good. Symphonias a little better developed than Phantasia due to the no random battles. But I love the side scrolling fighter RPGs. Tons of cool ablilities versitility through characters. Gotta love it.

Kingdom Hearts has a decent enough battle system if you want to pound enemies and pull off cool looking stunts. However, overall I prefer the Seiken Densetsu way of copeing with 'action' rpg battles. The pausing to take a look at skills, magic and items adds a little more strategy. Besides, a lack of Disney is always good by me..
![]() Mario RPG was pretty amusing too, as is Paper Mario, though the later can become mildly frustrating when you realise how long you've been playing and yet STILL its a bloody miracle to score 5 or more damage in one move. I know someone who found that reason enough to avoid Paper Mario. Overall I think the system for the Grandia series, it really hasent changed much bar some lovely tweaking in the latest title, has to be the best mix for me. Time to think out a strategy, action based carrying out of the moves chosen and the constant chance that some little thing can change the outcome and flow of battle tremendously. Its especially amusing in the first and third games, where that system is much enhanced by the fact you have to actually use your magic and skills to improve them. Honestly, the lack of change speaks volumes in my book, as does the multiple uses the ATB system in the FF series. :..2-2-7..:
