![]() It's a damn great game but appeals to very few. I have sent trials for... I think 6 people of which only one continued playing after the trial and even he has now stopped playing I think. Some people might be put off at the start because of hundreds of available skills which can be very confusing since you're going to need many of them to actually be able to do anything. Sucks to buy a new weapon and realize that you need the skill for that weapon type and skill for engineering to get more power grid and the skill for electronics to get more computer power and if you want more damage there are almost 10 skills for that and training all those skills to level 5 (maximum) will take one year real time. The training takes real time (but training will happen even if you're not in the game) and at one point the calculated time for being able to learn all the skills to maximum level was 19 years real time, but since then multiple skills have been added, wouldn't surprise me if the time would be more like 30 years real time now. But there's no level grinding and even though I said you need lots of skills in order to do stuff and use stuff, it's very easy to train most of the skills to basic levels and this will already allow complete noobs to take big part in the game. If nothing else at fights, they can atleast fly frigates and work as tacklers webbing and warp scrambling ships at fleet battles or some smaller ones. Or take part in mining or transporting goods, scouting, whatever. Maybe not as well as the older players, but well enough. I have been playing since January 2004, so I basically am almost 2 years ahead (and will continue to be as long as I keep playing and training) of anyone who starts playing now. YET, anyone new to the game can actually train to be a better battleship pilot in a very short time, since I have specialized on the smaller ships and weapons and skills used on them. And even if I am way ahead in training for frigates and interceptors etc, the differences aren't very big. Sure in 1vs1 fight I could probably kick any new players ass (maybe) but the choice of ship and equipment can also affect the outcome... and in a 3vs3 frigate fight with 3 veterans versus 2 veterans and one noob, it might not matter at all that one is a new player. The game is also very PvP oriented, its not really about if you need to fight, its just about how many days can you survive before blown up the first time by other players. Fights can be avoided quite well by staying in the highest security areas, but if you ever join a corp (and almost all will), the possibility of war will be there and during wars you're not safe in any system from the enemies. Death has a price as well, as you want to have a clone for yourself. Right now with my skill level, the clone costs quite a lot already (over 10million I think). If you die without a proper level clone, you will lose skillpoints... right now if I'd be killed without a clone, I would loose couple of months of real time training. And if that happens I'm gonna quit. ;p And every time you're killed you will need to buy a new clone. Oh and damn does the adrenaline rush from 1vs1 fast frigate fights make my heart pump and hands shake. ![]() Anyways... the greatest mmorpg ever. ![]() |

I have to speak up for FFXI, since no one else is. I have played RO, Ultima a little, and FFXI. By far FFXI is the best of the three, but Ultima was a long time ago. I'll never leave FFXI for any other MMO unless its is another FF MMO, because it is the best one. I've played it for 18 months and have yet to get bored, tired or want to leave because I cannot find something to do. It is the perfect addiction that provides everything.
I played RO and that was addicting, but it just got boring after a few months, and I did not want to play as much, even when I knew people on it. It grew tiring, after a while I could only play it in an hour or two sessions before I had to leave. FFXI, I have to remind myself what time it is, I've played 15 hours straight, if I was not wanting to sleep I probably would have kept going.

And that's my highest level character.adn I've been playing since release. Does anyone else see a problem with that? XD Really, though, I lost interest because I love Rogue more than anything else but no one really WANTS Rogues in their parties because there's so many of them, and I don't have nearly as much fun with other classes as I do Rogue. Something about taking half of someone's HP before they even know you exist is just.... fun. ![]() |

How to play FFXI: Click Start Go to Control Panel. Double click Add/Remove Programs. Click Final Fantasy XI Click remove Click yes. Restart your computer. Trust me. That's a lot more fun than playing the game. ![]() |

I used to play Gunbound, and the free trial to play Ragnarok. Ohhhh.. I loved both of them, but now my AOL account doesn't allow Gunbound so I'm not allowed to download it and Ragnarok, you need to pay to pay.. *sigh* I wish I didn't have to play... Right now, I'm waiting for a new MMORPG called .Hack//Fragment..

Well if your apartment allows unlimited bandwidth or whatever, you should be able to play. I think FFXI is international servers, and if not you can most likely play it anyway.
The monthly fee is for maintenance, to pay the Game Masters and for updates / patches. |

Yeah as long as you have an internet connection of some form you can play the game. I was playing on 56k for a week or two and I could still play fine. I prefer not to because the updates take too long to download that way. Which is why I am back on cable now.
