?! WHAT?! You COULD solo up to level cap, but dear God...I think that's insane. WoW is NOT as grind-free as some may say it is. Sure, in comparison to Final Fantasy XI the element of soloing is made easier, but more often than not you'll find better EXP in a party. This is especially so for caster-based classes (and even moreso for ones who are not a Mage and do not have free access to mana replenishment items). My downtime as a Priest sucks, and so does my killing speed. If I go too fast, it sucks my mana dry. There's a steady pace, but ugh...

Partying for quests (or just grinding) and instances are much more effective. Instances are just one big grind with stronger monsters and better loot, anyway.

I see. I have yet to play WoW so I don't know much of its terminology, but what does one do in an instance?

No, I don't wanna go look it up.

Well from what I understand an instance would be like us going into a dungeon in FFXI. But we would be the only ones there, sort of like a BCNM, except that you are not limited by having someone else already in the zone. Each party gets their own dungeon idential to the next, but it is just them and the monsters, no other parties. Blizzards way of solving the over crowding issue. But personally I think, it is part of the challenge.

Though you want a real Solo MMORPG, play RO, you can go from 1-99 alone without troubles even as a Priest. Heck I did it on 3 characters, a Wizard and a Priestess.

Sounds fun. I really like the idea of having a group of selected people join you in doing some hunting runs without having other people competing against you and your friends. That's also one thing I like a lot about BCNMs, ENMs, Dynamis and Limbus.

Ragnarok Online is overplayed, for me anyway. Played on many private servers and in most case, I play as a archer/hunter (sniper on transcendent) and can hit 255 easily.

Speaking of hunter, I noticed that in a lot of MMORPGs, a lot of the hunter type classes are overpowered. Then again, I only noticed the similarities in power between Ragnarok Online and Final Fantasy XI, but that doesn't matter anymore because RNGs in XI aren't as easily powered as they used to be.

Hunters in WoW are quite possibly the strongest non magical class in PvP. I've yet to party witha hunter geared the way I am and have them come anywhere near outdamaging me, and I'm sword stunlock specced. A dagger crit ambush backstab Rogue does a good 10-20K more damage over the course of an instance than I do.

Anyways, Instances are a lot more challenging than singlular partying in FFXI where you only take on one mob at a time.

At higher levels you have to plan out strategies, plan for adds, and make sure everyone is doing everything right. Rogues have an ability called Sap, on my Rogue's talent spec I have improved sap, which lets me sap and gives me a 90% chance of not breaking stealth (remaining unseen, so mobs don't aggro me)

Any damage dealt to a sapped target revives it. Sap lasts up to 45 seconds and usually lasts it's full duration as long as people don't damage the sapped mob. Mages can polymorph, I think 2 creatures, into a sheep that wanders in circles. When polymorph wears off they can repoly, but any damage dealt breaks the polymorph effect.

So if you have two mages, two sheeps floating around and a sapped mob as well as dealing with three other mobs that are highly prone to running for friends when they're nearly dead, instances aren't nearly as easy at 5 people fighting 1 mob like in FFXI. One peron's screw up in a 20 man raid can kill all 20 people. Rogues who stun a LOT during instances can screw aggro gain if they're assisting the main tank, because the main tank can't build rage as fast if they aren't being hit and therefore can't hold aggro as well, and if the tank loses aggro it's gonna go for that which is hurting it most, which is usually me, if I die it goes for the priest or druid who was trying to keep me from dying, if they die we're probably ****ed.

Boss fights are especially fun when I crit more often than intended and grab aggro, fail to lose it with a feint and the Warrior has already burned his taunt. I'll drop, the priest will probably almost drop before the warrior regains aggro and by this point the warrior is extremely low on rage. Aggo control in WoW can be a bitch.

I'd also like to say during my time in FFXI I loved Red Mage with a passion. Ialso loved to be a meleeing Red Mage regardless of what people said, and a LOT of people liked to yell at me about it.

RDM was a fun class. A nice mix of WHM BLM and Warrior, who could ask for more? I was also a damn good RDM I think. I like the support classes, and that's seriously something WoW is missing is a class that is strictly support, outside of Paladins but I just dislike playing that class. Human males are retarded looking, human females don't look right in plate, and dwarves, well. Actually, a dwarf Pally would rock, but I just don't like the gimpiness a Dwarf pally would get vs a Human pally (Human racials help Pallies, plus Humans have higher INT and SPI than Dwarves)

Just picked up this game again, and made myself a new character and everything (troll hunter, currently level 10)
Just wanted to know if it is actually worth the trouble going to thunder ridge and attempt taming a thunder lizard. Thank you in advance.

Cats and Bears are the best all around pets to level with, but up until around 40 (when mobs start to dish out more damage), your pet choice as a hunter won't matter too much.

Wait until you start the higher tiered raid instances, its a massive e-peen contest between rogues and hunters to see who can top the damage meters, makes things fun hehe. The only true test of damage is Golemagg in Molten Core, because you can just whoop his ass without worrying about pulling aggro if you have a good tank =), normally pretty close between hunters and rogues in that fight.

There is still a lot of outdoor raid mobs that spawn, with similar, if not better, loots than the instance bosses. The only reason people spend so long in instance end game is because of the trash mobs in them ( trash mobs = mobs in between bosses ).

In the case of WoW, while I understand that there are many features that one cannot complete through solo, leveling is not. I am under the impression that you can solo your way to the level cap. I feel that this feature takes away the great need to group with other people in accomplishing a common goal, which in many RPG games, is what bond the characters together. But meh, I'm just rambling on...
Like i've said many times in these 'arguments', not many people will level to 60 solo, i mean hell, even Sean grouped with people while he was levelling! Also levelling to 60 is only the start of it, the real grind starts after 60 (gathering all the phat lewtz omg!) and that can't be done solo in most cases. While a lot of people will argue that WoW is a single player game, my experiences with it are completely the opposite. I levelled with various people from 1-60 and was rarely ever solo, although i do level my alts mostly solo for the first 30-40 levels, but thats because i know where everything is now and i can grind out the quests pretty fast.

I've realized that WoW at level 60 is no different than FFXI. There's nothing to do except hang out in Ironforge, watch my auctions, occasionally farm, and wait for my guildmates to get around to getting together to run an instance.
Battlegrounds ftw

My experience with FFXI has been so magical!
I love FFXI! I don't know how WOW is, but already
being an FF fan, enhanced my devotion to this world.
Chocobo's, Moogles, classic jobs from the FF series,
all in the MMORPG setting just blew me away the
1st time and still continues to amuse me. I was very
close to my linkshell group as we grew together
and this is what made me stay; our adventures througout
Vanadiel!!!
On a side note,I have had friends on
FFXI that played wow, but came back to
FFXI because they liked it better. But then again
I have had friends that aren't looking back to
FFXI anytime soon. Makes me wonder...

Yet you have not played the game? Unlike Jin, Sean and SOLDIER #819 who gave me reasons as to why they didn't liked XI upon which I accept, yours is bad. It's so bad I can't think of a better word to describe it. Please try again.

So yeah, I'm ****ing with my new UI and farming trash mobs in Burning Steppes today to get used to my new setup and try to see if I have every thing essential to my use.

I test out my weapon swap macro. I pop an Ambush, gouge, backstab.

I cry because it was so beautiful. Both crit, combined they did nearly 2K damage and that's not even using talents to increase their crit damage or crit chance.

I'm respecing for daggers for my MC run tomorrow.

Told you daggers are ftw! Get yourself a gutgore ripper from MC or a Lobotomizer from Exalted Alterac Valley and you're set for a while, my rogues pretty much the same geared as yours and i can almost 2 shot most of those classes you seem to be having problems with. Until you start getting some of the better epic swords in the game (Vis'Kag the Bloodletter for example, off onyxia) daggers are far better and far simpler to pvp with.
