Halo is the most overrated game ever

Well, so the other day I sat down on the couch of a friend, and rabid Xbox and Halo fanatic, of mine to see what the entire Halo thing was all about, and why this was apparently the greatest thing since cheese.

This might just be one of the most mediocre games I have ever played. There are really no tactics in this game apart from standing really close to the enemy, splurging ammo after each other, and occasionally hiding behind something to recharge your shield.

Combine this with annoying, cartoony, and poorly designed aliens with even more annoying screams, a nice selection of really shitty weaponry, non-existent storyline, and you have a pretty mediocre First Person Shooter.
This is supposed to be one of the best games in its genre, so why is there nothing that even resembles the inclusion of long ranged combat?

The sequel was not much better. In fact I have never had such a strong feeling of déjà vu when playing any other sequel.

Word of advice, go play Half-Life 2 instead.

I never understood what made Halo so highly praised. However, I consider the game to be much better than mediocre although it definitely, in my view, doesn't sit up there with some other 'classics'. Half Life 2 is better than Halo, I agree.

The storyline in Halo isn't bad. In fact, for a FPS it plays out quite well. The graphics are nice, I didn't see a problem there. The voices are for humourous effect.

The gameplay is tactless on co-op mode but in single player some of the set pieces and gun fights can be fairly superb, mostly due to the large numbers of enemies swarming you. If you felt unchallenged then you ought to increase the difficulty. The game is relatively short compared to RPGs which is something that I didn't like.

Anyway, how much of the game did you get a chance to play?

This game isn't meant to be tactical. It is made to be an awsome game to sit down with a few beers and game with your friends. Alone it is not that fun, but when you play multiplayer it is nothing short of one of the funest multiplayers around.

Oddly enough, one cannot explain the fun that is Halo.

The storyline IS mediocre. I rather enjoyed it, myself, but that's another story.

The fun of this game lies in 4-8 players, all sitting together fragging each other, with one person screaming "IN YOUR FACE" and the other perseon screaming "MOTHER ****, I SHOULD'VE HAD YOU WITH THAT PLASMA GRENADE!"

Halo is extremely easy to pick up, extremely easy to play, and not completely devoid of tactics, I have a few I use myself that put me above my friends. Single player this game is the worst FPS I've ever played, multiplayer it is the best console FPS to date.

Now, when it comes to LAN parties, we bust out the Counterstrike, Battlefield 2, MoH:AA, or Unreal Tournament.

Halo is relativly easier, however. For 8 people to play you only need two XBOXs, 8 controllers, two copies of the game, and a LAN cable. To play 8 people of MoH:AA, CS, or any PC game, you need 8 copies, 8 LAN cables, 8 good computers, and, let's face it, not EVERYONE dumps 1-2 grand into a gaming machine. Three of my good friends have XBOXs, each of them have Halo on it. One of them grabs their XBOX, we use my XBOX and my copy of Halo, one of my Crossover LAN cables, and between the four of us 8 controllers is relativly easy to come up with (Especially considering I have 4)

Plus, Halo is a lot easier to play. Hell, even my ex girlfriend could play it, and she was the epitomy of shit at video games.

Yes, I remember about 3 years ago I attended my first "Halo Party". Haha it was fun. We had 2 Xboxes and made an 8 player setup. 2 big screen TV's really do help.

Anyway, here is my opinion:

Single Player is okay. Really lacking the umph that it needs to get it going. The storyline really needs some tweaking.

Multiplayer is where its at. You can use tactics in the game like a 3 man team in a warthog. But when you get your hands on a rocket launcher and take them out in one shot, you can’t help but cry out "Holy shit! Eat that!" Haha, I've done that too many times.

Though lacking substance in SP, I think the MP makes it up for a well made game.

I have always despised Halo. In my opinion, it is a horrible FPS, and I'm not too fond of FPSs to begin with.

Unline Sir Kenneth however, I have absolutely no reasoning that will make others agree. I just personally didn't like it. The multiplayer tacs on and on and I am bored shitless for the entire time. There are no bots, which is just stupid. All games FPSs should have bots on multiplayer (yes, I'm aware that Halo is not alone in this boat). I just find it to be boring.

PREACH IT SISTA!!!!

I hate the game in single player mode and d00m t3h third, is much better than Halo 2 in single player or multiplayer, but there's something about 3 people shooting the shit out of each other in a game of Halo that makes it helluvah fun. It wont go down to history as the greatest game ever, but it's on my list of most entertaining games for the XBOX

agreed

i've never tortured my self by actually playing the stupid thing, but i've watched poor misguided souls do it. it seems like it requires little more than a base mastery of hand eye coordination and a high tolerence for the repetitive sound of gun fire and explosions. yuck

I enjoyed Halo because to me it was kind of like Grand Theft Auto 3. Its like GTA3 in the sense that you can pick up and play just to do shit and not really accomplish anything. It wasn't overly complex with the control system or anything.

It was a gmae to pick up and enjoy, and it had quirks that kept you comign back (like Car Jacking in GTA never gets old, so does warthog flipping and tagging aliens and marines in the face). When Halo 2 came out it had more quirks (auto jacking, 2nd player with teh cloakness, etc) thus making it a better sit down and play for awhile experience than the first.

I do think its a great game but it does get out of hand.

I had this one friend who would always ask if some one wanted to go to his house so they could have a big Halo game. Sad kid really.

I does get fun on line though with voice chat and all.

yes i agree halo 2 is pretty fun but far cry is better, and halo 1 is an average shooter, it doesn't amuse me i hate the backtracking, and don't like the repetative music, there was also a major lack of guns. So yes halo is defenitley overated

yes, Halo is overrated 'specially to you snobby Euro's who are liable to critisize anything American, which i can relate to...not saying i hate this country..but from my experience it's a little unrefined for no good reason other than to fulfill it's infantile creed of freedom for the people...socialism/Sweden rocks.
Halo yes does lack the long range quality of Half-life but is a game worthy of a slot in another one of those 20-in-one game discs or whatever unit of game display technology spits out.

Halo's fun. I don't really play too many FPS's, and the only difference I can see between them are "good" and "bad". Halo's definetely in the good catagory.

Like I said, its fun. The biggest game I ever played was 16 players online. Definetely fun. I played 8 players with a couple friends at his house once, which was also extremely fun. It doesn't have to have some superior story or anything for a game to be enjoyable, especially not a FPS.
