Square Enix just announced a new remake of Final Fantasy Legend II for the Nintendo DS. The game was originally released for the Gameboy way back in 1991 (US) as part of the SaGa series. At the time, Final Fantasy Legend II was a rather impressive game with a soundtrack composed by both Nobuo Uematsu and Kenji Ito for over 12 unique worlds to explore. The remake will look much similar to FFIII and IV for the DS with character designs by Gen Kobayashi of The World Ends With You. Expect to see this game available in the US later in 2009. | Odd...am I the only person around here excited about this remake? I mean, it has people!!! Elves!!! (...well, sorta...) Monsters!!! Robots?!?!!? SHOTGUNS!?!?!? And if they do it right, it may also have techniques and spells for the people (and possibly those beings that look like elves as well, but that aren't elves). Is it me, or does it seem that the character designer for both The World Ends with You and this game has a similar drawing style to that of the character designer for the Breath of Fire series? I dunno, the art looks suspiciously similar. Also, if the indication of the composers tells something, is that the soundtrack will be REALLY good despite the DS's audio quality (and I'm not saying it's bad, it's that people apparently don't know how to use it...) Actually, I'm quite impressed they're going to use the 3D format from the FFIII/FFIV remakes when people apparently don't seem to like it; I do believe it will look decent enough in this game, considering the base source. Well, I guess I can just dream, considering most people in America just don't seem to like the SaGa games as much as other Square-Enix entries: it's harder to have a game like SaGa here than...I dunno, character match-up games? Considering that even the first remake of Romancing SaGa was taken carefully after Unlimited SAGA, which to most people was a complete flop. I still don't know why they didn't went with the first Saga (aka, Final Fantasy Legend) or the second Romancing SaGa, but well...

| I think when I saw the title for this thread, I did this. Also, after looking at that link, how in the hell did the player get their characters down to arsenal with only around 600HP? Madness I tell you. Ok, moving onward.. Like TG Oskar, I admire the SaGa series, and I have been playing the actual gameboy games since I was in grade school, which was a long time ago, before most of you were born in fact. (jk) Though I never really cared for the past couple of SaGa games (SF2 and Unlimited SaGa), I can safely say that they are about on par with me and my love for the FF series. The difficulty gave something that almost all of the FF games lacked, and the customization, even in the early games, gave a lot of replay value and general enjoyment while playing. Even for the gameboy games, I found myself humming the tunes to many of the FFL themes, and FFL2 in particular had a lot of choice in songs, so I have no doubt that the musical score will be top notch. Also, the storyline in this game is insane. There is so much background and plot development that happens, and it is all the more impressive when you realize that you are playing on the gameboy back in 1991. As long as they decide to keep the difficulty and make it balls to the wall "WTF?!" moments still intact, this game will put the final nail in the coffin for me to pick up a DS.

Inventory | I can't wait for it to come out the original game was awesome when i first played it back in the day. The first one was really cool also the way you could only use a weapon so many times. Maybe they'll remake adventures to.

Inventory | I have never played the original game nor much of the SaGa series, however, I will be getting this game. I always have room for another rpg in my collection. Plus I do plan on getting SaGa Frontier 1 & 2 whenever I get a better job. I'll be keeping both eyes of FFL 2.

Inventory | Besides the series being far more popular in Japan than abroad (I'm fairly sure anyways), I don't see why they're doing this rather than a dozen other games that deserve remakes. I never got very far through the 3 original SaGas, but I remember thinking 3 was the best...

Alright! For my first post on this forum I want to say that this game had a profound effect on my life. I had played FFL1/SaGa 1 through several times as a kid on the big clunky (and rather indestructible) original Game Boy. As much as I loved Dragon Warrior and FF1, that portable game was my favorite. When FFL2/SaGa 2 came out, I was all about it. While it was a better game in many respects, I was really annoyed by the semi-randomness of leveling up. It pushed me away from using humans. I was pushed further away because of the need to constantly be using agility-based moves. Basically, agility controlled your hit rate. You got agility ups from using agility-based moves. So, using strength-based weapons (that felt more primary) meant you had to double-train in agility! It was lame and meant that I generally had parties of Robots and Monsters. If I used any "leveling-based" character, it was a female Mutant who double-trained in agility and mana. In contrast with the original, Mutants got a pretty nice boost in this one because the forgetting of skills was no longer random. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to an updated version and the rumor that the leveling system will be less stupid. When will we have it in the USA?

| Well, if I know anything about the SaGa series, is that a level-up system such as that from Final Fantasy is tantamount to annihilating the spirit of the series. However, I presume it'll be closer to the growth system of non-USaga sequels (mostly from Romancing Saga 3 and Saga Frontier), which probably means we'll (hopefully) see some sort of techs and proper magic. If that's not so possible, then at least something a bit easier to the eyes. Humans in the earlier FFL/SaGa games weren't so interesting as they could only attack and use items, unlike Mutants or Robots. Also, V...which many games deserve remakes? Pretty much all Dragon Quest games got remakes, Chrono Trigger got a re-release (and I know you got the hots for that game), and the only bastard childs of Squeenix are specifically the Mana and SaGa series. If you say that Secret of Mana or Seiken Densetsu 3 deserve a remake, I'm with you, but not before getting them to release AT LEAST Romancing SaGa 3 for a next-gen console, or PSP. I'd get RS3 much faster than any of the Mana games (but that's just me)
