The Future of Final Fantasy

I was just wondering what you guys thought about the future of Final Fantasy, like how long it'll go on for, what the newer games are gonna turn out to be like ect.

I heard somewhere [I dunno if it's true] but the source said that FFXIII was gonna be the last one...but don't you think that's such a random number to end on?

I think it'd be cool if they continued the series, just stopped numbering them and gave them names.

I think they'll make 20 games, then a second series that has no connection to the first, and then it will be over long after I die.

i think they will make a few more in america and then make other spin offs but they will make ones in japan like ff XX and you will have to get them imported

I hope they keep making more additions to the main series for a long time as well as a couple of sequels/spinoffs. I would hate for there to be a "final" Final Fantasy .

You do know that the first FF was meant to be a Final game, right? But it sold so much and had so much popularity that the creator didn't go bankrupt anymore and made more games, etc. It's all in that 'Never ask why it's called FF again' thread.

That's why FF is so great. About the same genre but a different story each time. Mostly kinda. They could go on for ages and ages...as long as they keep renewing themselves and keeping a touch of innovation to their gameplay and good stories...

I hope they make them up to twenty or something, but if the quality starts going down in the stories, I'll be disappointed, I only expect the best. =P

Well, they won't stop making them until either SquareEnix buys Namco and Konami. in which case we'll have "Final Fantasy: Tales of Castlevania"

Seriously tho it's a huge cash cow for them, and the only way i would imagine the series would end is if the popularity went to hell which doesn't seem very likely at any point in the immediate future.

I believe they will keep going as long as there are willing buyers. They could probably sell Final Fantasy-branded toilet paper and people would buy it

Of course, not everyone is going to like every part of the series.

I beg to differ, we've seen many companies in similar situations lose everything from one day to the other. Take Sega for instance. They were the biggest rival of Nintendo (who was the biggest video game franchise in the good 'ole days). Now they've been rreduced from one of the greatest video game and console producing companies to a franchise that has to kiss everyone else's asses to get any production rights.

Going back even farther, Atari was the first and only video game console for a pretty good duration but they fell immediately as soon as the Japanese stepped into the scene.

And what does this tell us? That any company, no matter how big, can diminisch in an instant. Of course, I wouldn't wish it for Square-Enix. As long as their products stay true to their origins while still blending it with ingenuity, they should be able to leave a lasting impression on the gaming industry.

back on topic, well I'm glad that you guys think that Final Fantasy's going nowhere cause I really do love the series and want it to continue till at least 20...=/ and maybe make some more movies....like out of nine. =D
