//The Great Debate: FFVII vs FFVIII//

Over all both VII and VIII are great games in my book. some parts of VII are better than VIII, and some parts of VIII are better than VII.
one being Characters. over all i felt VII had a better cast of Characters. Vincent Valentine being my favorit. though VIII had some good character interactions. but when it all boils down i rather have a Dark Vincent than a Brat like Zell.
Combat is another that sets the two apart. the materal system was far more easy to learn than the Junction system. though i liked both. they both had a good amount of depth to them. but over all i like VIII junction system.
Storylines in both were both great. both having great plot twist and character interactions.

soo over all i find them equal in my boook and always enjoy time spent re-playing both.

VIII is the better game in my opinion.

Why?

I believe it has a more original storyline (VII's storyline borrowed too much from VI's). The fact that going into space was part of the storyline, the summons tied in with the storyline and overall it was just less clichéd.

The magic system. Easily more original than that of VII which was practically a clone of VI's Esper system. Being able to junction magic to certain stats to raise them and being able to junction magic to your elemental attack and defense and your status attack and defense. Certainly original.

The Summons. Again, more original. Rather than just being able to summon them, you learn abilities from them, they learn abilities themselves, you have a compatability with them and they become part of the storyline too.

Also, it has one of, if not my favourite mini-games, Triple Triad. Not to mention the great side quests in the game too.

So many people are arguing bout this its getting ridiculous, FFVII is obviously going to win. Compare it to whatever you want it'll still come out on top. The mere fact it had Sephiroth in is reason alone to win

I'm not trying to take sides in this, but what the hell? FFVII for the win. In my humble opinon VIII sucked in terms of a good story and plot. FFVIII is just pity excuse of a high school/Miltary love Drama, thats NOT what I want in a FF game. VIII's characters weren't appealing at all, cept for Zell, but besides him everyone was too shallow, no depth, no emotion (especially from Squall). If you were to compare Cloud and Squall it would be obvious even to most FFVIII fanatics that Cloud would out rank Squall. Cloud has a better backstory, he has more depth, he actually TALKS to his party members, now not all serious like Squall.





Cold types turn me off which really knocked me off of VIII because I'm sick of Squall. Ultimecia was a joke, pick any other final boss like Necron from IX and it could make a better final boss. VIII's story was slow and boring, which also turns me off, with FFVII you get into the action from the start of the game. Magic system to easy for you? Better then drawing random magic from weak monsters and having to wait til later in the game to get like Disc 1 type magic. Omega Weapon in VIII was laughable it wasn't that hard to crush him, now VII's 4 WEAPONS is another story. Ruby, Emerald, Diamond, Ultima, now those were challenges. VII has enemy skills, (awesome I might add), hot ass summons. I believe someone before said that these spells and summons are cliche from VI, well I would have to say: get over it, and of course I disagree. In FFVIII you get most of the same summons *cough* Shiva Ifrit *cough* Bahamut Zero and Bahamut Neo trump anything, and of course Knights of the Round. So in conclusion FFVII: 1 FFVIII:0.

Oh please, it's not always going to win because for starters, it all comes down to opinion and not everybody thinks that Sephiroth is cool. I think he is lame but I do however love the game. I prefer VIII so um it doesn't always come first for me. It all comes down to the opinion of each person and not everybody is going to place it on top of their list.

I'm not going to say VIII is better than VII or vice versa because I like them both but my opinion is that I prefer VIII. It was the first game of the series I played and I simply adored it but I love VII as well. They both have awesome characters and I like almost everything about both (not Sephiroth, he's overrated). >_<

The best Final Fantasy game between the two (Final Fantasy VII & Final Fantasy VIII) is Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy VII was kind of boring to me and I really didn't care for the characters like I did in Final Fantasy VIII. And I also like the music in Final Fantasy VIII compare to VII.

QFT, I agree with you 100% CC.

FFVIII was the very first Final Fantasy game I played, and I adored it as well. Don't get me wrong, I like FFVII I just think it's a bit over-rated.

Im goin with FFVII its my fav by far, i found the storyline alot easier to follow than FFVII, so i found it more fun.
FFVIII had better graphics but i hated the whole drawing magic it takes up so much time, and the laguna phases bored me to death.
FFVII was the easier game out of the two

I would have to say vIII was better. the grapics were fantastic, and in VII they looked more cartoonish to me. the story line was pretty good though
