Dreams of Death

I heard that if you die in dreams, you die in real life. Is it true? Also, why is it that when you're in danger in your dreams, you always seem to wake up?

As for myself, I don't really believe in such nonsense. How can you die in a dream and wake up dead. This thread is just for asking people what they think and if anyone has ever had a dream where they died. If you have, tell me about it. This is just something I heard about and I just wanted to clarify things.

Do you honestly believe that, Thief? It's a lie. I have died in dreams, and here I am. I've watched my lower have become ground into a mess by a machine, I've seen myself lose my head. I've cut off my own penis in a dream once and ate it, then died from blood loss.

Also, you don't always wake up when you are in danger. I don't, anyway, and I am quite sure I am not the only one.

Personally, I don't know if this is true or now. In my years of existence, I've had dreams where I came close to dying in them. But I never actually died in them. I've had a few dreams where someone was after me or this one time where I was falling off a cliff and heading towards the ground. When I was just about to hit, I just woke up all sweaty and looking around if it was really happening.

And there was this one time where I was sleeping, but I wasn't really asleep. Sounds complicated. >< But I was having this dream where I felt something sharp crawling up my skin and tearing my flesh. Sort of like a knife. Some parts are a bit misty but I could feel my body trying to wake myself up from this dream. I remember I was moving my arms and legs which were really hard to do. But after a while, I managed to wake myself up and I was scared shit that night. I must've been on some sort of meds at that time where I was sleeping like that. It was just weird.

Several years ago on MTV, I saw a TV show where they put myths to the test or something. It's been confirmed that the myth of dying in your sleep = real death is false.

Same with dying when you do body paint.

But anyway, no, it's not true. I've actually died once before in one of my dreams. Not really going to say how, though. Kind of sexually explicit. ...As are 85% of my dreams. >.<;

I've heard of the 'die in your sleep die in real life' theory but never was sure about it, cos i always wake up when im about to die, but from what Anathematised Anachronism and mistress sheena said, it doesn't appear to be true.

How could you prove something like this on a tv show though? For one thing, you can't make people dream of dying and even if they did, how would you know they aren'tjust saying they did?

I got shot right through the heart in the library that would become that of the school I went to for high school in a dream when I was twelve years old. Popped my clogs, as you do when you get a bit o' lead through the heart. Of course, at the time I'd never seen the place before. When I walked into that building for real when I hit high school the next year I thought, "Oh, cool. I died here in a dream last year."

Seemingly, I lived to tell the tale.

And how would they know? If it were true, anyone who proved it would be a corpse.

No, I haven't had any where I died. Almost died, yes. Falling.. being chased.. but at the last minute, I get an ability like flying or using magic. The interesting dreams that I DO have feel very real and don't involve death. I've had a few spooky dreams, though. My sister died in one.. it ended up being a room of torture that changed settings every few minutes. Dunno what happened to her, but the door made a click sound with me on the outside, and I just knew she died. I had dreams of my dad dying as well. He stepped on a board in a train and the plank went through his body..that one freaked me out a tad.

I must be remarkably lucky in my dreams. I've never been killed or injured at all. I may have been chased by the odd colossal prehistoric lizard, or watched as everybody around me spontaneously combusted, or even starred in 'Attack of the Killer Tomatoes', but nothing potentially 'physically' damaging...

It is silly to believe such things. I usually have dreams where I'm falling. I don't usually die, but sometimes I hit the floor and wake up. As for dying dreams, I don't usually have them. When I do, I wake up and I'm okay. I usually wake up before I actually die, though.
