Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

Q.Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

Chicken or egg? Like a hall of mirrors at the carnival, each attempt at an answer just leads to another question. If the chicken came first, then didn't it hatch from an egg? And if the egg came first, wasn't it laid by a chicken? It's one of those questions that seem unanswerable. !

According to me, it has to be Chicken .. as God don't need eggs to give a birth to chicken, he can make a chicken straightaway and then develop a system within the chicken which can lay the eggs on its own and can take care of it itself !

Evolution came first, slowly some birdlike critter adapted itself by laying eggs. not that hard, so technically neither the chicken or the egg was first since both derived from a different type.

I guess it depends on your religious beliefs. If you believe the Bible, God created a man first. Not a baby. So by the same logic, I would think he created a chicken the same way.

On the other hand, if you believe in evolution, it would probably be like the above poster said.

So either way, the chicken comes first...

...Unless...two different species (not chickens) mated a a chicken popped out of the egg.

Or...if you believe that reptiles have been on this planet a lot longer than chickens, then the egg comes first. Reptiles have eggs. Even though the question alludes to a chicken egg, it is never made specific. So by this loophole, you could make the egg argument.

Being the evolutionist that I am, I would have to say the egg came first. The reason for this is that the first chicken hatched from an egg. The egg was the offspring of two non-chicken animals that bred through natural selection to produce the first egg with a chicken inside of it. There ya go.

I would have to say the chicken because when god made animals i dont think he made eggs...he only made grown animals that can mate to make the eggs....so I think it has to be the chicken that came first

I'm a evolutionist like Dimmufan, so I believe the Egg came first. I just don't believe that a God just made chickens at the beginning of the world. I believe When Flying Creatures were forming during the prehistoric era for example the Terodatil ( I spelled it wrong ) mated with either another flying creature, or maybe a ground animal. Over time they continued to evolve, of course eggs were the start of all creatures, then mating, and then more eggs, the cycle continued, and they continued to evolve til one day they were dubed chickens, just like any type of bird, except they could not fly like other birds. So yeah the Egg came first

There is evidence of the ancestors of many of the creatures that inhabit the earth today. And if fossils tell us anything, it's that things change gradually. Certain characteristics can either remain unchanged or only change a small amount. So yeah, a creature close to our chickens would have laid an egg and a little chick would have come out. That chick, or chicks would have grown, laid eggs and then the cycle would repeat.
So eggs.

That said my knowledge of these things is limited. And with my limited knowledge I do wonder about a few inconsistencies. If anyone can shed some light on this to help out my understanding, I'd be very greatful.
The inconsistency being the size of the gene pool of an evolved species. I just wonder, if it's only a small sample wouldn't they all be inbred fairly quickly resulting in some bad genes?
And if they do evolve in larger numbers, than what triggers all of them to evolve around the same time? I can understand the need for survival, but I would have thought there'd be a few different adaptations showing. In other words, why the same change at the same time by many individuals of the species?

Here's the question though...Where did the egg come from?? It really doesnt make sense that two lizard animals make a chicken

I mean.. What if there was a bird.. Which morphed into a chicken.. Then layed an egg? Surely what hatched out of that egg would also be a chicken?

No that is not the question.

The question is which came first: the chicken or the egg. The egg has existed ever since the first amphibian took in any kind of oxygen. And it does make sense, if, over time some lizard eventually evolved into a bird.
