Question Tipping delivery men and Pizza drivers!

Q. Do you tip delivery men and Pizza drivers ?

I'm a big tipper, I always tip the pizza driver...It may not be much, but he/she always gets something. My bill is usually around $10 or $12, and I hand the driver a $15 bill and tell him/her to keep the change.

People might think that the dollar or two extra they pay for delivery covers the drivers' expenses, or might not realize that drivers don't make minimum wage. I dunno ... You see the cars the drivers are driving, and you know they're not getting rich off their delivery job.

I have heard many people say that when a delivery charge is included in the bill, they should not have to tip the driver, as the extra money for delivery should be going to the deliverer. I am aware that this is not always the case, but from the customer side, it does make sense.

I don't tip pizza drivers/delivery men. Not because I am greedy or anything and if I lived in the US, I probably would. Here in Denmark though, the minimum wage is at a very respectable 15 dollars an hour, and very few adults make less than 17-20 dollars an hour. That's more than enough to drag your arse to the next banking day.
Also we don't really have a tradition of tipping here in Denmark, so most delivery guys would probably think you were really strange or perhaps even take offense if you tipped them.

^Indeed.

I never exactly tip anyone, be it cab drivers, delivery men or whatever. BUT if I have a 200 bill and I owe say 170 for the pizza (or whatever) I tend to tell them to keep the change because...

1. the hazzle
2. pocket change don't get you anywhere in this country

So there you are, even if I did tip, it wouldn't make a difference because it's so expensive here anyway.

Makes sense?

I just answer the door naked, tip enough...

Hmm. Really though I don't know what to tip. A five or some dollars, and it depends on how I'm treated...I always like to tip nice people. Even if it's fake because they want your money...

Ok. I'm gonna be a pizza delivery guy!

Uhmm.. *cough.. Sorry for the spam >_>
(Had to be said)

EDIT: Here's something on topic, if the pizza guy is late. And I don't kill or maim him, isn't that considered a tip?

^No, Robin, it doesn't.

I don't get pizza or food delivered here, and I hardly tip when I go out, however I also give my hairdresser and extra £2 or £3, just because.

I give to charity sometimes, but I rare tip food companies or waitresses unless it's been really ****ing excellent service.

After all, you don't know who's spat into your food. Or worse, on ocassion. *Shudder.*

Well with me I'm not always in a good deal of money so I don't tend to tip.
I'll still try to be nice most of the time and tip a bit if I've come into good fortune, but chances are if I get someone pestering for a tip when I don't have the money I'll give them a tip which could save them from getting a broken nose or something.
Or a broken foot if they stick that in my doorway.

Personally, I tip the delivery guy. The way I look at it is this: "OMG You made this tasty food and then you were nice and brought it to me?!?!?! Here takes this moneys and my love!"

But yeah, the idea of someone actually bringing me my food from one part of town to the other seems pretty nice to me, even if it is just their job, so I tip em. I don't tip em like an outstanding amount, but typically $3-5 US.

What's interesting about this is that I don't tip well in restaurants. In fact, if I'm not with someone who cares about tipping, I'll straight up not tip the server unless they were like outstanding and made me actually think, "Damn, this person is awesome." And even then, it's only a strict 10%.

And I'm not gonna lie, as soon as I read the first sentence of this thread I thought of every pornographic generalization associated with "paying the pizza guy."

I follow a strict rule for myself when tipping people...I always round up to the next Euro. That means if I need to pay 12.50€ for something, I'll always round it up to 13.00€. Or if it's 15.10€, I'll give 16.00€, and so on. Usually when the total amount of whatever I've purchased goes above 50.00€ or so, I'll tip more...but since I never actually have enough money to even spend that much, that's never been the case.

Besides, I'm fucking going to school...fuck if I'll give someone a lot of my hard earned cash!

After working at a café for a while and always getting bullshit tips, I've learned to be incredibly stingy myself. I don't see a need to go against the current by being more generous than the bastards that patronize me with their small ass tips.

There are rare occasions when I will completely neglect my rule. In Germany, it is customary to pay the people that clean public bathrooms tip. I BARELY EVER do this since these people get money on an hourly basis anyways and also NEVER do a good job of cleaning those shitters. However, when I am drunk and completely out of it, I have been know to give up to 5€ tip to these lazy bastards just because it was too bothersome (and hard) to pick out the change to give them. I usually kick my ass in the morning...not because it was 5€...because I went to the bathroom a total of ten times. Do the math.

But don't blame the alcohol kids...it's still your friend despite all that bullshit it puts you through!

I tip everybody. Well almost everybody. The only people I don't tip are UPS and other delivery drivers and sales clerks. UPS drivers here make an average of $40 per hour. I know that delivery drivers working for one of the Pizza Huts here make pretty good tips along with the delivery charge that was included in the price of the pizza. I tip Pizza carriers. I tip all waiters and waitress. Waitresses usually get a little more. I have been known to throw a $20 bill in a waiter's direction just because of the uber-excellent service. Whenever I go gambling I tip more. I once hit a $1200 jackpot and cashed-out just over $1300. I tipped the lady who handed me the money a $50 bill. And that was the ONLY service that she provided for me. Working at casinos bring in some mighty fine tips and that's why I work at one, too. This one lady once gave me $100 bill after she hit a $800 jackpot.

I know what it's like to recieve tips and I know how happy they make me feel, so I try to do my best to spread the joy.
