Ever thought "hey, this isn't really doing anything for me..."

Hah...

So I hate college.

Before you critisize, I have a few fairly good reasons.

First of all, I hate most of the other students in the class, there are about four other pupils in my class that I actually like...

The students are loud and obnoxious during classtime, when the tutor goes out the room, they play pornography videos on their mobile phones whilst others are trying to work. They throw things at people who are concentrating and they're actual idiots who can't talk properly or listen, because they never do homework.

Secondly, I went to college to learn about art, not history, yet I'm being given all of these history assignments that I don't really care about. I do it anyway, just to grab extra merit and distinction points, etc.

Third, they give us too much homework. For Monday, I have to do this:

An A2 board of six different artists, two-three pages on the dada movement and who was involved. Three artists who used surrealism and start a big collage, recreate a small section of the leonardo handout we were given and complete the second assignment to the full.

It doesn't sound like a lot, but I'm sick and I'm having more trouble with it.

This course is sucking all the joy out of art and designing, which used to be something I adored. And I still do, when I can do it in my own company.

All the the creative industries has done for me, is broaden my horizons very slightly, and make me EXTREMELY conceited about a lot of my work, which the tutors and myself knew was pretty much ****ing excellent (see how I mean?). There are about three other students who I feel are my equal in work, and one of those people is my mate Nathan.

So yeah. Rant done.

Do you guys have any similar problems?

Any suggestions for me about my course?

Oh, and yes, they've considered moving me up to the nationals' class, which is the best one you can do in the college art industry.

Sounds like British college is way different than American college. Here in the states everybody takes their class time really seriously. Although, I can only say this from experience from attending the local community college. Maybe you should come to the United States to study art.

There have been a few times in my life when I though that something wasn't working for me. Usually it was a girlfriend. Sometimes it's my bowling team. I even thought college wasn't working for me, but it was for reasons unlike your's, Chez. I came to realize that in today's society if you wanna succeed, then it's not what you know, but who you know. Every job I have ever had was because a friend hooked me up, or I knew the boss.

In colleges here in the states, you can pick and choose what times to attend class and the instructor that teaches it. Is it like that in Britain?

Woah. Hell no. You can do part-time, or full-time. And even then that's only with some classes. I wanted to do three days a week in my course, I have to do four because we're not allowed to choose.

I'd be a Hell of a lot happier if I could pick times for myself, within reason, of course.

And the reason my fellow students are so stupid is because college here is free until age nineteen, and unfortunately, the majority of the class is 16-18.

It pisses me off because there are people who paid and want to take work seriously. This is another let down for me.

Argh...well, I guess I'll say, don't give up just yet. Unfortunately kids around that age are usually obnoxious, unserious, and dicks. But remember, this is about you. You'll need that little graduating paper to show people later on, even though the work sucks now. Sadly, school isn't always as fun as it could be.

They seem to think giving all the boring crap first is the way to go...I haven't finished any college yet, but I plan to go back to it early next year. I'm not looking forward to it much....because I know I'll be surrounded by pubescent teens lacking a thirst for knowledge or...anything really except booze and broads...and first years anywhere suck. My first year at the Terra consisted of doing nothing much more than cleaning up goat shit. Literally. Then, in the second year, they eased into information...

But um, drifting off here. I know it sucks now, but it'll undoubtedly get better, and you'll be proud of yourself for sticking with it, instead of looking back and thinking hey, I wasted all that time and didn't even get anything out of it...because I've said it before, and as dumb as it sounds, you'll need those papers...

In any case, do your best, Hideki!

Andrew tells me not to give up yet.

So is my friend Nathan.

I'm giving it another few weeks, but I seriously can't believe how disgusting the education system can be in NOT "taming" it's students during classtime. I don't believe people should have to be tamed, but none of them have any self-control and I think it's disrespectful to others...

Some of us are actually there to learn after all. 70% of them are just going in to get money from the college... Some of them get £30 a week, which it a lot when you think about it.

Pssh, it just annoys me, that's all!

Aye you do get jerk bags in most educational institutions.
Maybe you could find someone who's just that bit bigger to keep everyone else in line?
Basically find someone who'll either do it to support you or he/she is just as fed up with the crap that goes on in the classroom. Someone like me for example who would not hesitate to yell STFU JACKASSES! at the top of my lungs. Not only will you quieten the class down, but you'll have that person able to scare the crap out of everyone for quite some time.

Unfortunately I have been reduced to this method a few times myself.
Class should be for doing work....
Or sleeping.

As for homework, yeah we get a lot here too. Just gotta buckle up I guess. It'll all be over eventually Chez, don't you worry!

^It's not actually required in the art field -- just for the course itself.

Or maybe your country is just different. =\ Over here, as long as you're talented, you can find eventual work. It's just a little tough because there are so many blossoming "artists" and so little talent.

I prefer the line between realism and surrealism. Unfortunately, it isn't that easy to find these days.

Welcome to your first year of college. While we in America start at 18, there are still plenty of tards to make your education a chore. You take classes you're not that interested in, and there are people there who refuse to take it seriously. I think the only good thing about making students pay so much for college is that anyone with sense wouldn't mess around with that much money at stake.

Get through the first year. In my experience, a lot of the troublesome people disappear after that. They either drop out, get expelled, or whatever else. Also, you deal more with what you're really interested in. At least, that's how it's been for me.

Sucks that you don't get to pick your times. I mean, sometimes you have to take a time you don't want because there are no other times, but for the most part, you get what you want.

I had a similar experience my first year, and I was wondering if I was in the right place. It's much better this year, and I'm only in the first few weeks.

My advice would be to stick through the first year. See if it improves. I'm fairly certain it will. At least, I hope so.

Is this like a Community college or is it more like a University because the names confuse me partially cause of our own screwed up system. High School was called College for us, "Community College" is called like Polytech and University remains as University. (Also Middle School is called Intermediate). Anyway over here Polytech (College) is for the bums who dropped out and just need a quick cert to get a job but its a complete waste of time if you ask me and I would have preferred to go straight to University as the people in those Polytechnic's are dumb asses. I suppose its a bit too late now but I think if you just concentrate and try stay away from that as much as possible I shouldn't be so bad. As for the Homework... I never done any in highschool and think its a stupid unfair think to impose during those years but after a while it just turned into catch up, so I'd just think of it that way.

Chez, i've been studying in health sciences now for 2 years at my college. Mind you its a private college....so theres no idiots or screwups.

However here was my week:

Monday: in class Essay for English, Physics lab, Math Assignment due
Tuesday: Biology midterm, Physics Assignment due
Today: Math Midterm, Floor hockey class plus essay due

Now this week was intense...considering an assignment takes 2 hours min to complete well, and midterms are killers.

I think i suffer from collegitis like you lol

But really, i know it sucks now Chez, but thats school. Thats college....you have to withstand crap to move ahead. You can't let any shit like that stop you from fulfilling your dreams. Art is beautiful and you don't deserve to be deprived from it.

Just do every assignment one by one, give yourself time and everything will be alright.

Its a long climb, but its definitely worth it..you have to be the strongest to survive..good luck and you can do it!

Haha! I started College at 19! XD * gets embrassed* Anyway, Chez I had a similar problem in High School, and it was a pain the rear end. Just like you I probarly only had a few friends, but everybody else, well some not all were real Jerk Wads. I even got my stuff stolen from me in classes when I wasn't looking, They called me names, they taunted and teased me. But you wanna know what really annoyed me? They were freaking loud and news in all my classes! Even with the teacher in there they still acted like bowzos ( in english, a-holes)

I never got anything from those classes because those fools never did shut up enough for the teacher to teach. I had enough, so I left that school, and started doing online classes, why more fun, a new experience, and I work from the comfort and quietness of my home. That was total bliss. I got the best courses in college now, seeing as I'm taking up Culinary Arts hehe, I go to school 3 nights out the week.

Yup I'm taking evening classes, Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday 6-10pm, so yeah
