I'm going to go ahead and move this to General Chat. I think people would have a lot more fun with it there, and it's admittedly likely to get more of a responce.

In any case, it's varied. A good education is sure to get you far whether you're male or female. It's a fact that women are more quickly reponsive to alarms and such, but that doesn't really have a lot to do with intelligence itself, so I won't derail this subject.

on average I'd say the males are smarter here in holland.
I guess it varies per country and per region etc, but from my observations dutch men are smarter than women....doesn't mean I don't love them though

Peace out

it's been proven that girls do better in education because everything's taught in a way which is ultimately tailored to girls, 40 years ago when it was more tailored towards towards boys boys scored higher so you can't claim that girls or boys are smarter

I don't believe either sex is any more intelligent than the other. Males are more capable of, within their own mind, taking a 3d object and rotating it in their head, they're better with maps and geography, direction and construction- women are more skilled with mathematics, numbers, counting, and the such. If you ask me, the most unstoppable team would be one with an equal amount of males and females. Well, with moderate brains, of course.

No.

Men are better at mathematics. All studies have determined this. Its the reason there are more men in technical schools and more women in liberal arts colleges. Women have proven to be better at memory and reading. More males teach math and science in post-secondary school, while females usually teach History, English, and Humanities.

Your thread title implies that the idea of women being smarter is accepted, which is very sexist of you. You may come to this conclusion based on variance. Women tend to have the same intelligence level, while men have the very stupid and the genius (This is due in part to the expectation of men to enter the workforce versus women being able to continue their education more often).

I really think that it depends upon the region you live in and the type of education you get. Where I live it seems that most of the males are more intelligent, but that is just what I see around me. Also I don't like Momo Mastermind's statistics. Apparently I'm a girl then. I agree with A Mighty Zordon. His explanation and reasoning seems to be very similar to what I think. Like I said I think it just depends upon the education you get. It varies from person to person.

In all honesty it is a veried thing determined of course by genetics, and your situation as a neonate(newborn) to the Infant years. Now what I meant by the situation is Psychosocial(cultural influences on cognative developement) and Biosocial(cultural influences on physical development) For example if a child is constantly encouraged to help their dad or mom build something most likely a dad in most cultures then they will be able to perform those tasks better than someone who started building later in life. The reason is that a humans brain is developing at a astounding rate in the toddler years at around 250.000 neurons a minute! As you can see most boys are taught mechanical things not girls so boys are more likely to be better at mechanics and construction becuase our culture, but if all humans male or female were taught the same ways neither would be better than the other that is of course assuming if we all had the same genes. As you know most girls are baught barbies, brats, and cooking toy sets and all that crap so the are being encouraged too be pretty, and a good cook when they get older ect.

Whew! I'll talk more about this later.

There was a thing about this on TV the other day.

Apparently females mature faster during their teenage years where as males are more focused on their sexuality then around about 17ish they catch up and at 19 kind of pass them depending. Girls learn faster but males learn more, so it kind of averages out.

Also males DO tend to be better at maths, technical skills and logic etc.. where as girls are more inclined to English, Arts and the more Psychological studies and so forth. How ever that is not always the case as I am a male and I preferred English over Maths.

To me females are more emotionally driven and men are more logically driven which kind of shows... at least to me. I hope that doesn't offend anybody...

As it may have sounded in my previous posts. I do not believe that culture and tradition has an absolute effect on ones way of thinking and how they will lead their lives, just how their brains have been geared to excel at certain subjects. I can understand how men can be better at memorizing landscapes because males are the hunters in most species, that have to track prey and memorize routs ect, while as wemon are naturaly more nuturing and by nature are of course the caregivers of children that stay at the home and take care of the children, and commune with other tribe females and so are more social.

Yes females may be emotionaly driven but so are males. Men are more angry and violent= bad thing, but females are more caring and mostly more easily brought too cry= good because they are most likely not going to be assholes and abusive. Of course there are exceptions I for one am caring, gentle, may cry easily at certain things and I am a guy.

Dont worry I am not stupid and arrogent enough too believe that all these things I said are bulletproof facts. Oh and alot of the material in my first post are modern Human Development theorys I love this college class.

Oh and just for the record, though not to toot my own horn, I may be emotional but I am also in the genius level of intelligence I can do some algebra in my head such as I just solved x + (x + 15) = 431 in my head in like 5 seconds I also studied for only 20 minutes on my natural resources class along with lecture hours and memorized all the vocab for chapters 1-4

Anyway this is a long enough post take care

What deliciously diplomatic responses we have here. The point remains that so much goes into intelligence and knowledge and wisdom and genius that gender is at most, the least important factor.

But I confess that all of the geniuses that I have been privileged to meet have been male. Specifically, one a toxicologist from India who is literally working on the cure for cancer, one a literary and philosophy genius from the Balkans, one a white-trash math wizz who is going for a higher physics degree and one an albino artist beyond the scope of any normal artist. I also flatter myself that I am a credit to my sex, if this were made into a contest.

But in the end, too much goes towards intelligence for gender to be a factor. My girlfriend knows more about natural science and theology than most professors of Ecology or Cardinals of the Vatican. But then her knowledge of plants shrivels compared to my own. There are far too many weaknesses in intelligence for any single human to be known as intelligent.
