It's pretty obviously a joke. Nobody's going to offer free broadband service to people because nobody can afford it. I don't care how much money Google makes as a company... EVERYONE would rush to free broadband internet. No company can afford to support millions upon millions of fresh customers sapping their resources for free.

It was moreso the toilet installation thing I was referring to, that's just plain weird. And the bit about their sewer dwelling technical support nanobots which sound a crapload more advanced than anything I've seen or heard about. That was what I found odd about this little thing.

Well the toilet reference is probably just a subtle hint that they are full of shit. No matter how rich google is they can not afford to give out free broadband, I remember when NZ tried to give out free Dial Up when we first got broadband but it failed miserably. So yeah, I would say with certainty that this is an April fools joke.
