what pet should i get?

i've been thinking about getting a new pet, but i'm not sure what to get. I dont care about the size, small or large doesn't matter to me. I don't mind shedding, i have to clean the entire house every week anyways. I don't want something that'll be locked up in something all day, animals have the right to be free. I already have a dog, so it has to be friendly to other animals. i already know my parents won't let me get a snake/lizard/spider, because they are lame. does anybody have any suggestions for me?

(just because it looked cool)

I say a cat is the best pet you could have, but dogs can be funny about them. Maybe go for a little fuzzy fluffy rodant, since theyre small and easy to look after. I'd say a small snake or lizard, but you've already said they're outta the question.

So a rabbit, guineapig, hamster, rat, gerbil, mouse, degu or chipmunk. Wait, get a male and female degu cause theyre funny when they hump. Easy to look after, cute and funny"

Maybe you should get a Teddy Beart hamster. They are the cutest little buggers, and you can train them to be evil. ^^ It would either be that or you could get a Bunny. A dark an evil bunny. Like the one from Bunnicula the book! Yeah!! It could have little fangs an shit. I'll give you pics of both, Lol.

i like the hamster, but wouldn't it have to be in a cage all the time?
i think a cat would be cool, but as storm said, it wouldn't work too well with my dog. i'll wait for a few more suggestions before making my decision

Parrots are awesome. Budgiegars, lovebirds, cockatiels and parrotlets are all good beginner birds. All of the are cheap (< $100) and easily hand tamed. Plus, these guys don't hurt like a bitch when they bite you. Avoid macaws, amazons or grey's as they are quite an investment and are much harder to take care of. Unless you really like birds and won't mind the occasional blood blister or finger fracture from a nasty macaw chomp, stick to the smaller birds. I'm not a fan of the songbirds like canaries and finches. I think they are boring since they typically don't like being held. If you get an appropriate size cage with a variety of toys that you switch every couple of days, space is not an issue for birds. For the most part, they don't care about being locked up. Mine only come out to come and hang with me or go to each other's cages. Rarely do they ever venture around. For the bird's safety, you should clip their wings which some people don't like to do.

I also second hamsters. I've owned about 8 different hamsters over the years. All have which have been great pets. Golden syrian and black bear syrian hamsters are very very easy to tame. My black bear used to fall asleep in my hand and lap all the time. Out of all the times, I've handled my syrian hamsters, I've been bitten maybe 4-5 times which is nothing since I've handled them thousands of times. Dwarfs are more cute but much harder to tame. These guys will still bite you even if they are fairly tame.

Both hamsters and birds should be fairly compatible with most dogs. I wouldn't shove it in the dog's face but from my experience and other pet owners, dogs don't really notice or care about cage animals. My dog chases the cat constantly but doesn't give the birds or hamsters any attention in their cages.

I mostly like wild animals that are prohibited-endangered.I'd like to have a beaver for instance, they're cool.I know,i'm watching too many documentaries on BBC there days.

Back to reality then.
I'd either go for a dog,or a guinea pig.I love dogs & cats & i'm eventually gonna get a dog,a Giant Schnauzer,because of a bet.Since you already have a dog,can't have a cat-probably,then that's out of the question.

I never had a GP,but i'm thinking about getting one so that i'm not alone anymore.I like their looks.Besides, they're easy to take with you in the subway,in a pocket probably.(My father hates them,so there's another good reason to get one.)

would i be able to take the hamster out of the cage most of the day? i don't mind having it in its cage while at school, but i don't want it penned up all day.

i've had a bird before. their alright but they can get annoying. especially since my dog taught our old bird how to bark, and it would go off in the middle of movies all the time. plus it was very not friendly, and it tried to kill us when we took it out

by the way, good luck finding the giant schnauser. my dogs a schnauser, and its not even a foot tall.

It depends on the hamster actually. Some are tame enough to "behave" when out of a cage & some not.I don't know.

Well, there are sizes of schnauzers.Miniature, common & giant-big & most times pitch black.I like giants the most & when it comes to dogs, big sizes.

Thanks anyway,it's a rare breed & i'll certainly need some luck there.

This is an easy one! Get a ferret! Get two ferrets! They get along great with other animals. I've never seen one that hasn't, at least none of mine have been hostile towards other animals. You can let them run around the house or your room. Just make sure that there are no holes or anything that they can get into, because ferrets are super curious.

Other than that, they are hilarious and fun to play with. If they have an accident somewhere in the house, it's easy to clean up. You should only bathe them about twice a week because bathing them more than that can take away their natural oils which is good for their coat.

They do have a slight musky smell to them, but all animals have a scent. As long as you take care of the ferret, you'll be fine. Trust me. They're hilarious and great to have around. I have two of them! I'll add some pictures of them to this post.

You can check out my ferrets, Stinky and Jekkyl taking a bath here.

I would recommend a bird, since you've had one of them already, perhaps a cat? The only thing about cats is that they lose a lot of hair! I have three cats so it's not always a pleasant experience! Also, they wake my parents up during the night because they are wanting to come into the house. A good thing about cats is that they are very clean animals, you don't need to wash them because they do that themselves. They are also intelligent and playful.. just watch out for those claws.

I used to love dogs but I'm not too keen on them anymore. They're not as clean, you need the bath them regularly but they can be playful and cute. I believe they get ill more easily.

I don't like rodents of any sort. They are icky and nasty to me. My brother's children had some hamsters and eww. They ended up dying anyway, they seem to die very easily.

If you don't want any of them, what about fish? They're quiet, pretty to look at and not very big compared to other animals. The only thing is you have to keep changing their water so they stay alive.

I'm a bird animal, I love them! I have a pet cockatiel that I've had for about thirteen years now. I love her!

Get a hamster.

They're not boring at all. I have one, and she whizzes around the cage at top speed. You don't have to keep them in the cage all day. Buy a little plastic hamster ball to run around in.

I have one and my hamster runs around the room like mad. It's hilarious, and absolutely adorable.

thanks everyone for your recommendations.
after looking at what everyone has said, i have decided to buy a either a ferret or a hamster, and after looking at the pictures of Alucard's ferrets, i decided to pick it. although i still have 2 questions, if anyone can answer them
1. how long does it take to potty train a ferret, and
2. do they have breeds that don't have the "mask" on its face. my sister is afraid of racoons, and that reminds her of one.
